Hiero-Ethno-Martyr Chrysostomos of Smyrna - Metropolitan of Arkalochori Andreas

One of the greatest figures of Asia Minor's Hellenistic population is Saint Chrysostomos the Neomartyr and Ethnomartyr, who, during the dark days of the devastation of Smyrna, found himself as the only leader of the weak Greek population under the most tragic of circumstances. His torturous death often overshadows the work of his life as a high-priest and his zestful preaching of the Gospel and the theology of the Church's Fathers, even during his tenure as the Metropolitan of Drama.
With his faith in God and love to the motherland-Greece and his compatriots as his main focus, Chrysostomos preferred to surrender himself to the Neo-Turks and suffer terrible degradation and torture under them, while blessing his own murderers! This Saint is for us a person of great importance, not only for those of faith but for all Greeks.
