- Do you have a Chevy Equinox or Pontiac Torrent with the 3.4 L engine and have an illuminated check engine light and traction control light, a service stabilitrac message, and/or stored codes P0404, P0405, P1779 and or C0561? You likely have a faulty EGR valve. Watch this helpful video for tips on diagnosing and repairing this issue.
My Daughters 2007 Equinox was having the same problem, I was getting the service Stabilitrac, P0404 & P0405. Two weeks ago I cleaned the EGR valve because the plunger was stuck but all codes came back. Replaced the EGR valve and cleared the codes & all is good. Thanks and much appreciated.
Thank you very much for this video---had codes P0404, P0405, P0115 and P1779 plus the service stabilitrac and traction control warning lights. One shop said they needed to go into the transmission and replace a few parts-cost: $2400. I replaced the EGR myself with ease with the help of your step by step video...result: problem RESOLVED and FIXED! ALL codes and warning lights cleared and passed state inspection. Cost: $80 part, zero labor expense!

i have this problem on my 2009 pontiac torrent. i replaced my egr valve a couple of months ago and come to find out the new one was bad and didnt start showing up until about two weeks ago. thank you for this video. it saved me i dont know how much because i was able to do it all myself and my problems were exactly what you described (no shift lag or hard shifting, just the lights on my dash) so it was easily diagnosed and now its all fixed.

I had the same faults on my 08 equinox 3.4L six weeks ago. Removed EGR valve sprayed the heck out of it with almost a whole spray can of carburetor cleaner, 3 times in 1/2 hr period. Waited over night and sprayed again, waited 2 hrs for it dry and installed it again. Has been running perfectly fine for the six weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Great video. I have to replace mine on my 09 Torrent about every 2 years. Very common problem. Thankfully I went to Oriellies and have a lifetime part warranty.

Wow...I have a 2007 chevy equinox...I just scrape off some carbon inside the egr valve and used WD-40 being careful not to get electrical parts wet...traction light went off and so far didn't go back on...eventually may be a good idea to install a brand new gm egr valve...Thank you car doctor.

Thanks, I've been stalling on replacing my EGR for a couple of months even though ODM II said there was EGR system problem after I took into to a garage to change rear plugs - short arms - garage wrote on WO had a cracked ERG tube. Couldn't find one on single tube 07 Equinox, or soot on tube but outside tube heat shield was sooty. Also had "service Stability Trak" come on and off for 5 -7 years - ignored it. Then soon after the plug change had "service traction control" come on and alternate with the "Stability Trak " service warning - engine (EGR) fault light always on ... so decided after getting three warning lights time to get serious as they light the dashboard up too much and couldn't see outside temp or Odometer without cycling messages each time I started car. (engine and the 2 messages service lights). Checked the web to see if wasting money - found the save money item about a loose hose from filter to back of valve cover but not a problem - in place. Found a few but came across the three alert signs above you mentioned. Replaced EGR valve and cancelled codes ... so far so good ... there not back. Only thing I noted was the bolts holding the original EGR valve body to bolts to engine were a bit slack for my liking - maybe source of soot on outside of heat shield at end nearest valve body connection ?

There is an updated egr valve with a new plug in too.Has to be programed with the Tech 2 after being replaced.The tube also gets bad causing an exhaust leak

Thanks! Had an EGR valve code. Replaced it cleared it check engine light off, and service stabilitrak & traction control lights are now off. I've already had one wheel sensor fail a couple of yrs ago so I thought another one was bad... Nope.
Have the problem with my 07 Equinox, taking it to my Dad's tomorrow to the EGR valve replaced so we shall see if all the lovely lights go away! Other than the annoying lights on the dash it drive great.

Yes, we replaced the EGR Valve and all lights were gone. Haven't had anymore problems. I just have one question what the heck does the EGR Valve have to do with the Traction Control and Stabilitrac?
Nothing. They just figure since it's an engine control and the engine is related to the traction control system that it should illuminate the check engine and traction control light whenever an engine code sets. I think they really just want to scare the crap out of the owner so they bring it in for service.

Update* this happened again about 2 days ago. This time instead of cleaning it again I just went and bought a new one. I think there are just some spots up in that valve that are hard to get all the carbon out. Thanks again for your help.

I had this happen to my 2013 Equinox over the weekend. Went from Fla to TN, when I started the car the next day, it shuddered, and the "StabiliTrak" notice popped up with the Chrck Engine light, but after 1 minute it went away. I was able to make it back home to Fla yesterday and it never did come on again, but I'm getting it checked out today

Hi...mine started just recently...you start car and it shows service traction control,service stabilitract, traction control off on my wife's 07 equinox..has109,000 miles... sometime s if u let it sit it will not come bk on...does the fix in the video fix all those .. thanks

I’m no mechanic by any means and I Believe I came to the right place but just to make sure would this issue make it so when u come to a stop and go again would engine kind of rev up as it moves slowly and I really hope I asked this question properly you see I was on my way to work and noticed my traction service light on for my 2009 Chevrolet Equinox I’m uncertain if it’s a 3.4 but I’m just trying to have some questions answered as I have a baby on way next month and Christmas next week I just bought this vehicle beginning of last month
so 120 dollars later My stability light is still on,,,, thank you you tube .. Why i took a shot and changed the egr valve is beyond me lesson learned

yep I have been reading up on the service stablitrack and service traction control and there are videos ranging from All i did was change the EGR valve to All I did was change the ground wire to the block.. Everyone else says they have had it in time after time after time.. There isnt a specific fuse on the 2007 torrent to just say screw it and pull it If I ever find the fuse responsible you can betcha I would throw it as far as I can. Im sure the dealer will say its this and this and this and 1,900 dollars later its something else now.. This is what you get for buying a piece of crap.. No wonder pontiac went under.
This is EXACTLY what was wrong with our 2007 Pontiac torrent. Fixed in 5 min.

My buddy and I were able to change the egr valve but I noticed when I took off my oil cap how low my oil level is.
I'm making sure I can top off my oil with regular tap water so it won't overheat just till I get paid this Friday?

Changed the EGR valve on my equinox, check engine light is gone, but stability track service warning phrase still there.
Fiance has one of these Chevy’s. Hers is a 2010. Only 64k miles on it, as she’s barely driven it for 10 yrs. Her Service stabilitrak censor is sounding off, so I About to start dismantling this thing. If she’d been with me then, she’d bought a Ford!

Once I changed the EGR and reset the codes the lights disappeared.
How did you reset it?
My 2006 Pontiac Torrent shuts down randomly and the TC light comes on traction control could that be the same problem you are demonstrating

Would the P1779 code pop up because of a P0449 code in the ECU? Those are the only 2 codes I found with my scanner.

Hi Tim , Rick usually sleeps till noon , ok buddy I'm getting up at 5am now. Oh yeah Tim you still there buddy, ok I can't see the relation of the code to the egr fault , why would a glitch in the egr cause a stabilitrac code, the only reason I'm asking is because I can. Love the vid brother👍👍
+Steve Rob Its because the tire is connected to the drive shaft which is connected to the transmission connected to the engine (with the EGR valve) connected to the PCM connected to the instrument cluster connected to the service stabilitrac message. Too bad its not connected to your alarm clock or it would never go off. haha, love ya brother
Hi. Had code p0404. Replaced EGR twice with Delphi and Acdelco. Then wiring harness, tube and ECM. Pretty penny. Still stabiltrak and p0404. Help!
Replaced it, fixed the stabiltrack for about 45 mins then put it back into limp mode, what do I do now I'm lost at this point
P0404 is another code you can get besides P0405
Hello, your right on, in my case the tube had rot holes in it,easily missed so I replaced the tube and valve and cannot get rid of code p0405? voltages are good! put old valve back and still the same. c0561 is caused by this for sure! let me know any thoughts?
I changed mine and the line itself and everything's fine except for when I go into passing gear the throws the same code any suggestions could it be the air flow sensor which I cleaned but did not change? Becoming annoying
It would be more helpful if you would put the year and engine size in the Title. In this case, you said it was about Traction Control issues, but might have mentioned the EGR valve as a possible source of the problem in the title.
Could this also come from a plugged-up cat?

I am not sure why an EGR valve would trigger two other codes including the "service stabilitack", but then I cannot figure out my girlfriend either. I owe you a beer. Hope you do not mind. I have a question I’ve had several guys look at my 2010 Chevy Equinox and no one can find the problem. When driving my suv it feels like I’m smashing the brakes but I’m not after about 20 mins my suv will come to a complete stop it won’t go over 20 mph and that’s max . I disabled the abs module to see if it needed replaced and took the fusses out and that’s not the issue. So I put everything back to the way it was and it’s not getting any better. Can you please let me know what could be wrong with my car the stability light is on and the tire pressure light is on and the check engine like . The stability track light comes on right before it locks up and it’s all four tires .

Hi Car Doctor, 08 Torrent 3.4L 197000km with stabilitrak traction control and P0404 lights on. I have 5V at the egr connector and 11.9V going to GND at the connector. I replaced the egr valve with a Delphi and the tube as it had a crack in it. Cleared the codes with a scanner. 1 day later it all comes back. Should I replace the egr again but with a GM one or do I have another problem? Thanks in advance.

My check engine light and the traction control light comes on after driving for an hour straight.. .. Then they both disappear after not driving it that far a couple of days later.. This keeps happening over and over again... If I don't drive far for 2 weeks.. Lights stay off.. Anyone have any idea what that means?
I have an illuminated check engine and T/C and A.B.S. lights that come on. Until they actually do come on my brakes shutter when I apply pressure to the brake pedal.

Mine is doing the same thing as I put on my break it is like grabbing and my tc and abs lights r on what is causing the noice when I use my breaks and my tc and abs r on my foot pushes the paddle to stop and it's a grabbing noice help

Lance Sheppard thanks dude....please let me know if it fixes it. Does your peddle feel like its grinding or jumping when braking? Unless you go over 40 then the system seems to shut the abs off?

Okay I have a question I have a Chevy Equinox 2007 okay they're so small wire coming from underneath the fuse box ... It almost look it almost look like a ground wire anyways it's unplugged where do I plug it do I plug it on the pasta side on the negative side
Probably a wire from an aftermarket device thats been removed or disabled. I wouldnt connect it anywhere unless you know what circuit its meant to connect to.
Yes it doesn't it doesn't it's Darius because it was it was it was like tied back with a with a black tape so I don't know if it's supposed to go on the block or in the raid because it was unplugged so I just trying to plug it somewhere I just don't know where it goes I did not know if it was if it came like that or what but yeah I don't think he has any any use for it right

you don't have to clear the codes but it will take a while before the light goes off on its own. It must pass several drive cycles before the PCM decides its fixed. Good luck!

Have a 09 Pontiac torrent that the rear brake light and turn signal stopped working after the abs light came on. Any ideas? Abs light is no longer on and Heard it could be the abs sensor. Thanks
I have replaced the EGR valve on this equinox twice and it only makes it run really bad . When I put the original valve back on the vehicle runs fine but the stability track light remains on. What am I doing wrong?
what codes are in the stabilitrac system? Only times ive seen an EGR make an engine run bad is when they are stuck open.
how does this do anything with the TC light and abs light?
They just say that since it effects the engine controls it also effects traction and ABS. They just want your dash to light up like a Christmas tree to get you into the dealership for repairs.

+RICKAFIX Yes me too! Seems like it was the old Ford Ranger EGR's that would break off bolts when removing. Sad. This one is a cake walk for sure. Steve is missing out!!!
Hi i have a chevy equinox 2010 2.4L engine and I have 2 problems 1st is the AWD maintenance message (I have been told that is repaired by the guy who I baught it from) and 2nd the battery saver on message (it blocks for 10 to 30 sec the AC windows and fan) for this I have changed the alternator and the battery and the problem still there I don't know if anyone has experienced this before please help me with that thank you!
