Wow wonderful blues clues! And holy blue note- I’ve been playing the major blues scale for 40 years and I never noticed it’s like a mode of the regular blues scale!!! Of course!!! Thank you Jeremy!!!
i didnt understand. but i have another thing to blow your mind. F minor blues = Ab flat major blues starting on the 6th. me personally i never thing of minor blues scale. i just think of the major pentatonic a minor 3rd above and add the "blue note"
Peter Martin uses ,,combined blues scale" all the time and I find it very usefull. I heard him joking ,,secret blues scale" as traditional ,,minor" blues with added major 3.
These were some fantastic blues clues! Thank you Jeremy, especially for filling in a knowledge gap for me. I never knew that pentatonic scales could stack themselves into fifths like a giant, “quintal” major 69 chords until today! I’m thrilled to suddenly have that knowledge.
Sometimes I've seen people talk about "mixoblues" (mixolydian + blues), which is also the same notes as "major blues" and "minor blues" combined. I'm guessing you're not a big fan of this scale, hehe. Has a student ever asked you about it? Will you go over the theme from Blues Clues in Part 2?
Very few Clues when it’ll happen but looking forward to the « blues vid part two »… Col. Mustard, waiting in the ballroom with a lead pipe… Awesome vid btw, thanks!
So happy that my mentor, Marilyn Lowe, spoke about how terrific your teaching is, Jeremy! She spoke so highly of you and I am definitely a future student!
I wanted to provide the feedback that I found the section on improvising on the blues scale badly to be very helpful. I do this and wondered what was wrong, thanks for the explanation.
This, like all of Jeremy’s videos, is so filled with wonderful guidance and the passion and good humor that he teaches with. I took the first of his jazz repertoire classes…freakin awesome! A lot of rich territory covered. I’m still digesting it all. I so highly recommend it if you have the time and inclination to learn jazz from one of the real deals that are willing to share and teach. His Open Studio content also rocks…well…okay…swings! Deepest thanks Jeremy! 🙏🏻✨✨✨
Great video. Love the bit about not combining them all, 19:21. Sometimes less communicates more. The clarity of a scale is in the notes you play and the ones you omit.
Why learn a bunch of scales that are hard to remember when you could just play every scale simply using notes of the chromatic scale… 😂 Only a poor joke, what gives notes a sense of direction is the context!
When you don’t resolve the tension it sounds like Monk to me. And blending the two scales together sounded ok to me too. But I trust you that they don’t. I guess my ears must be unsophisticated.
Great clues to the blues! I enjoyed the nerd fest-I hear so many different names for these scales.

As usual, you are fun to follow! I can't wait for part 2. Thanks for clarifying and differentiating so clearly the blues and pentatonic scales.
Never watched Blues Clues - but I loved Hill Street Blues, which also involved clues. Great video!
Thanks, Jeremy. I’m glad to have these clues about the blues.
Great video! Looking forward to the next part. Also, I can't believe I've never realized the whole pentatonic can be stacked as 5ths.

i also heard monk when he tried to make it sound "bad"
No clue what "Blues Clues" TV show is! (I'm outside the USA.)
Steve, the beloved original host of Blue's Clues, is 51!
