It's amazing of how CBS Saturday Morning bumpers happened after every each animated Cartoon show takes a commercial break or if their show is ended for it's daily commercial message that arrived in the years 1979-1997. I wasn't born between those years because I wasn't even there.
The 1982-1985 bumpers and 1987-1990 ones are my favorites. I could only imagine having been on the set during the latter ones! Those look like so much fun, but I was 9 in 1987. They probably would have said I was too old, but I would have had a blast.
:44-1:09, those bumpers were around for maybe a year, maybe 1979-1980. The boy catching the blimp and throwing it like a football was the most memorable. I don’t know what was before them, but they didn’t seem fitting for the Bugs Bunny Rd., Runner show. I think that show didn’t even have bumpers before then.
Fido:"I here that we're getting a special Garfield and Friends theme song for season 7." Jocelyn:"I believe it goes like this:He's fat, he's lazy. He sleeps, and he's so crazy. He's funky, he's groovy, he's grumpy, he's moody! He's my main cat, Garfield...... that's me!"
The bumpers in 1987-88 and 1988-89 tend to use the same format overall of simply changing the images on the monitors to show a different cartoon on there and have the voice indicating what show it was.
It was interesting they tried that experiment in '89 with the bumpers being customized for each show (I want to say the studios themselves had to produce them for their own shows in the process). Too bad it only lasted a year as they went back to the usual theme bumpers again with Fido Dido.
Basically they were all the ones for 1990-91 season. CBS would recycle those at least two more times but re-dubbed the announcements to reflect the newer shows that were added in the later years.
My favorite, at least as far as CBS goes, were the 1993-1994 bumpers. You only have the "we have returned" half of the school bell one here, but there were 13 different pairs of bumpers for the season, plus pre- and post- credits versions of many of them. It's a shame they seem to be lost.
I would separate the "Starcade" and "Space" bumpers myself. Namely the "Starcade" ones began in 1982 and "Space" in 1983, but they were both very interchangeable as the network recycled them through to 1985.
I remember these you mentioned being used as late as 1987, especially with older cartoons still on the schedule. The local affiliates in my area WHIO - Dayton and WTOL - Toledo (to a lesser extent) seemed to use bumpers they wanted and not necessarily the current ones at the time, or a mix. The two bumper packages following 1985 seemed to run later than the years listed in this video. As a aside, the NBC roller coaster bumpers seemed to go years past their original run on WLIO - Lima. When the Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man show returned one last time for a while in '87 even the early 80s bumpers for that was used.
I do recall 1988-89 bumpers tend to be a "remix" of 1987's with different music used. 1989-90 didn't have any generic bumpers produced as each show had bumpers made for themselves that year oddly.
The 1987 TMNT was one of my favorite shows I watched when it was on syndication before it aired on CBS. Too bad Cookie Jar destroyed it and KRQE my CBS aired their local news before airing Cookie Jar TV.
Yes. It shows some Felix The Cat bumpers on Twisted Tales of Felix The Cat VHS tapes. I love Felix The Cat! I only have 1 Twisted Tales of Felix The Cat VHS tape that has an episode about the magic box.
You forgot about the rest of the bumpers, CBS Saturday commercials 1988, CBS Saturday commercials 1989, CBS Saturday commercials 1989 #2, CBS Saturday Morning ''Hey Vern, It's Ernest'' Commercial Bumpers 1 & 2.
I have been looking for this for YEARS! What do we know about the black and white line art cartoon guy (about halfway through the video) Does anybody know the artist or story behind him? I am so glad I found this.

I remember" Saturday Supercade" 1982-1985, and "Gonna Party" 1986-1989. Mostly gonna party.
I remember those CBS Cartoons, going to commercial break.
I think I would pay $100 for a recording of 12 hours of a regular broadcast from a random day in 1985, including commercials and bumpers. Sigh
Hey- I have a Christmas 1985 tape I may be able to provide a DVD image download link for if you really want it.
