Tico Tico . Wow .Dermot has given hours and hours of absolute pleasure to yours truly and no doubt to thousands worldwide. Favorite artist Favourite tune .Fantastic.Hear his other versions too and his trad.virtuoso pieces (aged nine)
Wonderfully played, you guys are very talented as this song is very complicated to play and the instrument (cavaquinho) to which was composed to play at, but adapted to accordion and violin, you have to be really clever to play in such a fast rhythm, congratulations to all the team of musicians you are great, thanks for the great music you play and the joy you give to us! Love to all! Bless the Fantastic Group ! Cheers.....
Feckin great! That daffodil got some battering during this. Superb musicians, superb tune, superb performance. Thanks for posting it. Played a lot in my house.
What an amazing performance - distilled to the essence of the tune - crisp yet so smooth. Dermot sat absorbed in the tune, a zen-like quality. Terrific! Lorna
Ridiculousity. Dermot's economy of motion in his playing is amazing, especially considering how wild this piece is. Virtuoso! I also love how Steve Cooney basically has a huge hole where the top of his guitar used to be;P
there are obvious differences between piano accordion and button accordion. The number of octaves available, the variety of chords and bass notes etc.. In the end its 'who' is playing not 'what'. It might be more difficult to play more chromatically on button to some people but button is better for trad. The push/pull different notes give a tighter rhythmic feel for triplets etc than the piano which has the same note push or pull.Piano is used more in Scottish, English & European e.g. Tico Tico
thanks sooo much for posting this and the other videos!!! pure brilliant!! sooo smoothe and ease of control on that box!! where and when was this recorded??
This is on C#/D accordion, and I'd just like to say that I'm trying to learn it too. It's very hard! I know exactly what he's doing, but I can only play it half speed so far....! It's the third bit in B major that's hard for me... those C#m arpeggios with other notes in the melody on top...
No, I gave up. I suddenly realised how much time it was going to take... somebody mentioned 100 hours below in the comments... rather a lot of time just to duplicate a showpiece. I can play "Ace of Spades" quite convincingly, though....?
You should listen to a little more of this great musician's playing before making such a trite, throwaway comment. He's a very sensitive player when the mood demands it.
As some one who plays this tune on the piano accordion I can tell you that there would be no way to get the speed dynamics of this performance with an accordion that’s not diatonic. Don’t get me wrong, you could play it at that tempo, but the dynamics of a diatonic instrument are very hard to emulate on piano accordion or a 5 row continental box.
@AlexNavar I'm not sure who you are but perhaps if you "google" information on Tico Tico, a tango from Brazil vs Argentina, you might want to take up arms with them. This is "music" we are referring to, not a basis for war. We are equally entitled to our opinions. I quit!
tbh i half agree with johnrk556's comment, Cooney is a great player but his playing does nothing for me here, that guitar he is playing has sod all tone... i reckon though that they were just having a bit of fun with this tune, it's a showy tune, not a serious irish music tune
As I said Dermot could have carried it off with panache by himself. It wouldn't have taken HIM long to learn something like that.Probably Gavin encouraged him. He's taken manys the wicked liberty himself. To be fair you have to come up with some variety when you do a show. Not everybodys a trad head.It is meant to be a light hearted showy piece and is performed as such as by all the people who do it on you tube. Just rattled by repetitive rasgueados.
not a tune to take seriously, supposed to be a laugh. It IS just a showy tune thrown in for variety.I find the flamenco guitar clichés irritating. But it could have been made into something witty and humorous.Dermot by himself would have carried it off with panache.

Man, didn't even mess up his hair.
Wonderful playing and arrangement, especially that C-section.

The show, Rhoda , sent me looking for this song. I have a bird named Tiko. How cool.
Feckin great! That daffodil got some battering during this. Superb musicians, superb tune, superb performance. Thanks for posting it. Played a lot in my house.

Thought it was a tango, but perhaps samba? Whatever it is, I danced to it!
.....cool music :)))...
Dermot Byrne (button accordion), Steve Clooney (guitar), Frankie Gavin (fiddle) and Carroll Hession (keyboard)
The last name should read Carol Hession...

thanks sooo much for posting this and the other videos!!! pure brilliant!! sooo smoothe and ease of control on that box!! where and when was this recorded??
Fantastic. Or has he forgotten to undo the bottom strap?
and I thought that willie nelson was the only one with a big hole in his guitar. lovely performance
@AlexNavar kidding about what Alex? It is a tango. It is a Brazilian tango.
This is on C#/D accordion, and I'd just like to say that I'm trying to learn it too. It's very hard!

@ciaran3001 :-D You should. I, for one, would like to see that here...!
i cannot sleep
What a player Dermot is! That's Frankie Gavin on fiddle is it?
No, I gave up.
I suddenly realised how much time it was going to take... somebody mentioned 100 hours below in the comments... rather a lot of time just to duplicate a showpiece.
I can play "Ace of Spades" quite convincingly, though....?
What key accordion is he playing ?
He play with a C#/D accordion it's tune in D :)
Holy merde! This is great.
You should listen to a little more of this great musician's playing before making such a trite, throwaway comment. He's a very sensitive player when the mood demands it.
the tune is from Brazil. cooney is playing with a flatpick......those flamenco cliches are in your head.
Has this fellow received any classical training? great playing!
No just Irish trad playing
bunch of paddies owning it, good job
bet you've got it by now!
definitely harder on a button than a piano accordion.

excellent! but the tico-tico is a shlow rumba...

You should give it a ruclips.net/video/wudAv2gSRKg/видео.html "brazilian's version"
