  • This video shows how to make custom taillight gaskets for an OG Saab 9-3. I decided to replace the original gaskets with thicker ones in an attempt to stop water from leaking into the rear of my car. Since buying new gaskets for my Saab was not an option, I bought two sheets of 6 mm thick rubber neoprene from Amazon and made my own. NOTE: In the video I used 10 mm neoprene. I later replaced these with gaskets made from 6 mm neoprene.
Check out my previous video where I discovered the water ingress problem:

Hi, I have the same problem with water leaking throu the taillights. I have rusted space for spare tire too but it went so far so I had to weld it. I like you videos with Saab. Greatings from Czech republic

I ended up re-doing the gaskets again using thinner material (6 mm vs 10 mm). I also found that water seemed to be leaking in the seam just above the boot lid bump stops. I scraped away the old seal and used some silicon. This seems to have solved the problem. For now.

Hey man, I have the same problem with mine 93 from 98, how did this fix perform? Did it solve the problem?

Yes and no. The gaskets stopped water getting in the lights and from entering the boot around that area. I also found water leaking in from one of the seams halfway up the edge of the hatch. I used some silicon and that seemed to help.

Also, if I were to do it again, I would probably opt for 3mm thick neoprene.
