My take is that he is expressing what it’s like to be human and reach for divinity. Waiting, stressing, looking for the promises of GOD yet not seeing them. Be it that GOD is making you wait or you have went a stray and cause your blessing to be delayed. The song is a cry for the promises of GOD to come to pass. Of course this is just what it means to me, Pastor Moss may have meant something totally different 😅
