The Sacred Journey of the Kaaba

Imagine a place built by prophets, filled with divine purpose, yet later desecrated by idols. This is the story of the Kaaba. The Kaaba, the first house of worship, was constructed by Prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismail, as a sanctuary for the worship of one God. After Prophet Ibrahim's death, the Kaaba was filled with idols, until Prophet Muhammad restored its sanctity by destroying them. Every Muslim is required to perform the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime, if they are able. This journey centers around the Kaaba. During Hajj and Umrah, pilgrims walk seven times around the Kaaba in a counter-clockwise direction, a ritual known as Tawaf. Muslims around the world face the Kaaba during their prayers, a practice called facing the Qiblah, uniting them in worship. The Quran states, "Turn your face in the direction of Masjid al-Haram. And wheresoever you people are, turn your faces in that direction." Masjid al-Haram, the largest mosque in the world, was built around the Kaaba and has been expanded by various Muslim rulers over centuries.
