The Most Awkward Car Interview Ever With The People Behind The Knockoff Tesla Cybertruck

- David and Jason talk with the founders and creators of the Aitekx Robotruck, a Tesla Cybertruck-like EV truck It goes horribly wrong. At one point one of the founders (we think, he refused to give us his full name) asked us to record a video telling his coworker what a bad idea this was to bring the truck to the LA Auto Show.

“We brought our car to the LA Auto Show. Please don’t put it on the internet.”
Do what now??
They assumed that L.A., being an isolated podunk town, wouldn't have cell coverage or internet availability. I'm as surprised as they are, to be honest.
I have to say, despite the build qualities and bad details and execution, the design concept drawing is better than the cybertruck...
whats the Internet .....lol
😂😂😂
@@DrTheRich Ill be interested to see how they are planning to build it, or if they are just using a steel lookalike metal.
This is genuinely incredible. I cannot believe they were even allowed to put this on display!
Right? Who at the LA Autoshow thought this was a good idea
To be fair, it was probably one of the more interesting things at the show, even though it was interesting for bizarre reasons. I mean, I never would have even heard of the show nor considered watching a vid on it if it weren't for this fascinating fiasco.
I would imagine they paid money, go figure....
This is clearly a marketing stunt by Tesla. Elon pushing out the clones and copycats to draw further attention to his product…the more crappy copies that are out there, the better the real deal looks ! 😂
I'm guessing that the auto show was expecting a rolling clay model that looked like the renders. After this thing showed up, I also guess there was lots of double-checking to make sure the cheque had cleared.
I sort of feel bad for Ed, I think his partners hung him out to dry. And I DIED at the door handle under the panel.
Ed handled it well.
I would love if auto shows cars were selected by a third party randomly from a large pool of production units.
I wonder how much that auto show floor space cost and how many $100 deposits they received from the show?
The door handle can't get dirty. That's a good thing, I believe.
i am a chinese and i am very sure they are chinese.
I don't feel bad for Ed at all. This isn't a pre-school play when you're happy when kids just do their best. I mean, are they for fucking real? I would forgive them had Cybertruck not existed and shit as this thing is, it just showed an outlandish take on a pick up design. But it's already been done so as it is, it's nothing even remotely interesting. What a freaking joke.

Aiteks is not a real company. They are looking to draw investors and then never produce a vehicle. But damn, this is so horribly done the whole thing could just be an exercise in money laundering.

Yup and all that money goes straight to the CCP most likely.
Us comonomers don't have access to the Ukraine money laundering machine, so they are giving their best shot.
Sounds like you don't know what money laundering is.

@@ThinWheatLine In-fighting on display in front of potential customers 😲 Could be a red flag pointing to instability
Obviously the most concerning part is the lying - if they just straight up said "yes, we've been greatly inspired by the Cubertruck so we're working to produce our own version, so for now we've built this prototype using other vehicles so we can show our idea to the world" - then no problem. But lying - as man does that door handle give it ALL away - lying isn't acceptable from a company you're possibly going to spend $40,000+ with.
The problem is that Elon tries to sue everybody. He even tried to sue Lucid for making an "electric luxury sedan" thinking he owned the concept after making the Model S.
Tesla is even trying to sue Rivian right now.
@@hasmond6808that lawsuit is over stolen trade secrets since Rivian poached Tesla employees, not a lawsuit on the grounds of them making an EV.
I can’t even find any record of your claimed lawsuit against Lucid, but would appreciate if you can find it for me
@@hasmond6808 Tesla never brought a lawsuit against Lucid, especially not for reasons your claiming, and Tesla possibly has a big reason to sue Rivian as they supposedly poached an employee who might have stolen trade secrets and shared them with Rivian.
*It’s not a Cybertruck!* Uses Tesla drive unit 😂😂😂
I love the bodyfit where Jason can slide his hand inside the closed door.
This is solid journalism. You handled it professionally but didn't back down. Great video.
Years from now, when Tesla updates its Cybertruck with a more stylized body, Aitekx will be like "Whoa, whoa, whoa - you're copying *our* design from the '23 LA Auto Show"
BAHAHA Nope. Next gen Cybertruck is going to have the proportions of that RAM 1500 REV Concept. Low and Cab Forward but still using the brake press body structure. This is the obvious ultimate form factor for BEV Pickup.
Nikola has entered the chat
I was going to like this comment but i want to leave the number of likes where its at.
"Nice" (southpark voice)
The scammers are getting really bold. If they were genuine in intent, maybe go to the LA auto show the year before to see what the bar is and what the standards are. That said, is the auto industry getting so bad that the LA show will give anyone discount space on the floor to anyone?
Chinese care manufacturers are hiding from the chat😂
Unbelievable. The company has no shame at all so typical.
Elon and Tesla also have no shame.
This is c c p stuff. This is most likely a scam from mainland [Redacted Asian country]. They have numerous examples recorded online of scammy ideas that they try to pass off as real. The AI one being especially egregious, but the "self driving tractor" is another that was horribly executed and picked apart online.
wow you're so good at avoiding the RUclips censors, good job, you would've got shadowbanned and cancelled if you said "CCP" or "mainland China" @@matthewmosier8439

Looks like scammers living off the deposits
I just don't get why you'd go to a public show, pay for a prominent location, and then not explain a damn thing about your product!
Scare up reservations on the crap website and then use that to try and suck a few hundred million out of donors or more? 👍🏻😀
It's like a live Gofundme
The way of the Chinese....Shameless copiers. LOL
I went to the LA Auto Show on Monday and this truck was GONE! MISSING!........NO WHERE TO BE FOUND! I really wanted to see it. I would love to know if they were asked to leave by the LA Auto Show people or if Tesla sent their lawyers after them..............Could you please find out if possible??? Thanks.
Great comment! The channel should Pin this.
It’s still there in the west hall
Why would the show ask them to leave? Looks like it's still there though.
It has a Tesla Model S drive unit in the back.....
Are they taking deposits. If so, this is a scam for sure
Just like Tesla/Musk in more ways than one then .
Vinfast laughs at this.
When Vinfast quality is better!!!
Small scale factory in California but the big factory is in the United States um…………………… WHAT WHAT THE 😮
This is funny. It takes a LOT of guts to take this to the the LA show.
Ya know, I was just reading through the comments in the billionth Tesla article to pop up in feed from a certain J site, and thinking how much I missed articles by people that actually wrenched on cars. Then I pop over to RUclips and see David and Jason’s face in a thumbnail. Subscribed.
Jalopnik still kinda good actually???
wow the scammers are getting lazy
I'm so glad I saw this. I've been working my ass of building a car. I've spent a year putting a widebody kit on and other stuff that wasn't made for it and doesn't fit. I was depressed about my bodywork skills until I saw this masterpiece! Every thing I've done is better than this pos. I feel so much better. To be honest, I kinda like the way it looks if it was built properly but that is the jankyest thing I've ever seen.
Good luck on your project! Have fun!
“ no. This is not like the cyber truck.” You guys look at the truck. “It looks just like a cyber truck.”
The Autopian is on the CCP watch list now.
I think this is the guy that sent me an “official lawyer letter” from a law offices in Canada about my long lost aunt that passed away and has a 8.5 million dollars life insurances policy.
Great video guys, clearly the owner is Chinese. And their website, grammar, spelling, another giveaway. They are shameless in their copying of others ideas. I lived in Beijing 2001 to 2007 and I saw exact copies of Honda CRV and BMW X5 except that the rear lights were a LITTLE bit different and perhaps the grill was reworked. Of course the badging was in Chinese. The Gvmt didnt stop them from producing knock offs. Their own conscience didnt stop them and the build quality was trash. But when you looked at one, your initial reaction was "Oh, there is a BMW X5".
7:35 the door rocking like an ancient, rusty gate 😂
I think the weirdest part of this is that they actually tried to style it. With those contours and character lines, what they were going for in the renders looks better than the Cybertruck IMO
they do a really good job at embarassing their company
Brings car to autoshow for publicity, doesn't want anything about it posted to the internet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is insanity!
Damn this is incredible! What an amazing call out and that you were able to film it! Great work!
those two look like the must untrustworthy salesman you could ever find.
If anything you were too nice to them. I have seen some BS vehicles in my time but this is so ridiculous it is at a whole new level. What did they expect? Clowns.
The center console is from a Tesla model S the battery pack looks like a Tesla pack as well as the drive unit not to mention there “infotainment” was basically two iPads strapped into the center console not to mention the car smelled like spray paint im sure the car was actually spray painted
This is great! We filmed a similarly awkward segment with this lol
kyle I can't wait to see it then.
Theory: Someone is making a mockumentary about an EV startup in the vein of "The Office".
2:11 Rendering actually looks pretty cool. They split their budget on making it work/drive vs a beautiful non working show car model made of clay wrapped in vinyl sitting on display behind ropes. Car companies do that all the time and may or often not deliver on that look. They need help on marketing across the board, naming spelling etc.
Dad: "I'm thinking of upgrading to cybertruck", Mom: " But we have a cybertruck at home", The "CyBerTrUck" at home :.....
Ya know im building my own little camper in my garage, it quirky and has some build quality issues.... But I didn't take it to a overland or camper expo. You're gonna get some major scrutiny if you make a website, brochures and take it to a auto show. So weird 😳. You guys were as nice as you could possibly be given the circumstances. And ya know... I do see some slight Cybertruck similarities there 😂
This is likely a [Redacted Asian country with a great wall] scam. They are famous for it. There was an "AI" exibit produced by that country and displayed at an expo or something, which was a woman hidden from view watching people interact with the screen and having a conversation with them. It was bad.
As a Cybertruck reservation holder, I can see the appeal of this truck had they of put more effort into the prototype build quality. Unfortunately, due to the lack of information and transparency, with terrible build quality, this company comes off as pretty scammy. How these people responded to you really came off as them trying to hide something despite just how obvious it was.
scammy AND scummy
both apply there!!
Took the bait and switch lol.
of != have
The best part of the video is when the old guy ask him to repeat what he said so he can show the developers! 😂☠️
That's an old model S edu btw it's not a dual motor
The door ON TOP OF THE DOOR is so tragically cringe-worthy that I had to rewind them reaching into the door to the door handle beneath it a few times. This has the makings of a scam and good on you for doing the right thing and asking them questions to reveal it. This is the kind of reporting we should all support - subscribed.
They'll probably market it as 'redundant doors' - just in-case the outside door doesn't open - just pull the handle underneath. Ha.
@@PatrickWitherow lol
I was just on their website. Two things are amazing. 1) When you click the check box for "front seats" in the build... it shows an interior picture of an F150 or a Toyota (pardon me for now knowing my standard trucks). And in the cutaway view render 2) It shows 7 seats. Ie ... two in the back. In the bed area. Like a Brat almost.
also the wheel selection box will show you 3 Tesla wheels 🤣🤣
Well done! I mean, to you guys. Shame on the frauds you exposed. I have been part of making push-around concept vehicles for car shows. What they showed was a heap of bondo!!! "Some of this we don't want to get on the internet". Exactly what the internet loves...durp ;)
That mom with the little boy is so cute. She even picks him up so he can see better. I don't think my mom would ever have taken me to a car show. I was OBSESSED with cars as a kid.
This is old school Jalopnik right here, love it.
Give this company a chance. They seem more credible than Nikola Motors. LOL
This video just won RUclips.
This looks bad on the la auto show. They should QC what goes on display
Can’t make fun for typos (they aren’t native English speakers) or the build quality (its a 3d printed level prototype)… but they should be straight up that they were “inspired” by cybertruck
It also has a Tesla Model 3 battery pack.......
This is 1st honest review of this truck I've seen. The other review I saw seemed very positive like the one from LA Auto Show that you showed a the end. Kinda shows how biased the world is becoming against Elon smh
Imitation is the highest form of compliment.
10:11 "Cutting edge technology" As in you'll cutting yourself on all the rough fiberglass edges and screw on panels. Nothing presented on that truck appeared to be ground breaking. Thanks guys for calling out such a shameless ripoff!
To be fair the cybertruck itself looks like a diy car
honestly, props to ed for wanting to pass on your comments. He seems like a nice guy
LOL - Right at the end where the guy in the background is lifting the door off it's hinges!
Someone tried to sue and steal all the sketching design lines, so the newest successful company had to release it. The cyber truck wasn't the first design to come up with this and can be used for reference for those other conversations people kept bringing up about their design friends who got bullied into committing suicide for stealing every kids dream car and supposedly expanding on it
3:56 *Honda’s pickup truck use to have that style. The Ridgeline and also another one from Chevrolet. So it is not the first time of the history by tesla, as the guy says…*
How about the company logo that steals the Kraftwerk Autobahn cover art? Hearing the suit explain that they don’t want to see this going out on the internet is classic.
I don’t think your video shows it, but the steering wheel is from a previous generation Traverse, Acadia, or Enclave.
Those guys are my neighbors and darn it, I want my door handles back.
I tried to reserve one for $100 but they said it was too soon and I shouldn't tell anybody.
*That secret hidden handle feature was to keep criminals from stealing your truck.* 🤣🤣
Aitekx Robotruck said Tesla Cybertruck hold my beer we have panel gaps too.
“We have a concept, should we build a prototype for the show?”
“No, just slap some fiberglass panels on top of a Toyota Tacoma!”
😂
I’m gonna be super critical because it’s the Internet and say the dudes interviewing contributed at least 25% of the awkward energy in this interview. Nothing outrageous but just thought it was unfair to put it all on ole mate when you guys are pretty insecure in public as well, no offence.
Also, where the **** have I been that Torch and David were on here. Instant sub. Keep up the “encouraging” journalism!
That door gap is not a bad gap, but it's an automatic AC vent. The hidden door handle is a backup handle in case of an emergency. The liner in front of the door handle is a Kevlar bulletproof shield. I almost feel sorry for Ed who was forced to try and sell this thing.
Aside from the obvious, I like the concept, not as radical as the Cybertruck with more conventional body lines.
That whole denial of the styling like the cyber truck is a huge red flag that they aren't being objective in the least about this and they are likely running a scam.
This looks as much as a cybertruck, as a new KIA looks like a BMW.
And to be honest, it looks 10x better than a cybertruck as well.
Those sales guys were hilariously out of touch, even for sales guys who think their shit doesn't stink.
This things reminds me of that ridiculous 4x4 convertible Chrysler Sebring knock-off from a few years back (Puma?).
Oh please tell me more about this.
He's referring to the 2014 Youabian Puma. It's based on a Volvo C70 convertible, but it truly is a sight to behold. Look it up.@@marcusquintanilla7131
This thing was beyond hideous. Who even sold them the floor space? Shame on LA Auto Show!
The Asylum version of the cybertruck.
Funny how the dude who was clearly in the scam, and probably the LA auto show connection, came to defend the thing claiming it wasn't permitted to film in a show open to the public like this one. Way to incriminate himself and give away the scam! Good work exposing this shameless BS fellows. What I don't get is how these people avoid jail time.
1. Quickly create a prototype vehicle with parts from other production vehicles and some Bondo.
2. Take $100 reservations.
3. Disappear and profit?
I've been to the LA Auto Show they some times have cars cordoned off so you don't get close. That's what they should have done here, so they don't get scrutinized.
6:27 You know what he did there? He got your faces recorded to investigate you both. It was never about telling the developer.
The edits in this video are hilarious! 😂
Worst spokespeople ever. Unfriendly, unsure, awkward, secretive, unhelpful.
Honestly they should have had it roped off so people had to stay 10 feet away from it. And they should have clearly displayed it as a fast mockup to generate interest in their design language for a truck they would like to further invest development time and funding into.
They were not prepared for the scrutiny of trying to pass this as a close to production ready vehicle.
"The goal was to make it look like a Cybertruck, right?"
"No"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
"This does not look like the Cyber Truck and there is no war in Ba Sing Se"
JFC, this would have been laughed out of a Dollar Tree parking lot meet.
This has got to be the weirdest attempt at a car reveal/scam I've ever seen
Though awkward at points, even watching from a far, thanks for the overall review. I was especially happy that you pointed out all of the details and basically rebrand of the thing. You gained a Sub. Best!
Not trying to defend them, but the auto industry has a historical culture of copying each other, it is called TRENDS.
It works like this: One car model comes up with an original feature. The next few cars that imitate the feature are considered copycats. But once you get to about 4 or 5 cars copying the feature, you reach critical mass. Then the status goes from being copycats to a TREND, which every other company must now follow.
For example, Tesla started the full touchscreen trend in the car interiors. And the Bugatti Chiron started the taillight bar trend.
Following the same tradition, the Cybertruck will also start a new trend.
With all that said, it seems to me that the guy speaking on behalf of the company could be some Chinese investor, feeling like he might be getting ripped-off by American engineers.
if they gave investors, the SEC should investigate.
In their defense. Musk did the exact same thing with his truck, the semi, solar roofs, etc etc. don't hate the player, hate the game.
I like how they are copying a truck that will never see the light of production.
This is what you get when you order a Cybertruck from Temu
Lmao
I'd have more respect for them if they just straight out admitted copying the cybertruck design and it being a scrappy knock up.
When your mom says we have a cybertruck at home....lol
