    Unfortunately, the Mors Bushpot is no longer being produced. From Don Kevilus (Four Dog Stove): "I'm sorry to say Mors Pots are no longer being made and no longer available. The company in Two Rivers, WI that made them has been sold and no longer can make them." If you have one, be sure to hang on to it!!

    I have the same pot, and I feel pretty much the same about it as you do. These pots have a pretty storied history: They were the survival pots issued by the Royal Canadian Air Force, and Mors kept his when he left the service. It's a source of unending frustration to me that this is yet another case of Canadians coming up with something cool, and Americans realising the market potential of the thing.
    I love mine even more now that it's dinged and discoloured from use. As is the case with all my bush gear.

    • @geraldhenrickson7472

      And just where did the Canadians get the idea? From the British via the Germans. Where did the Germans get the idea? Does it really matter? This particular pot just happened to be perfect for what Mors wanted and there are none available today that are the same. Some are called Mors pots yet they are only close in size and design. How all this could frustrate a Canadian I cannot imagine. What is your take on snowshoes? Trappers via France and Norway?

    In The Two Kilo gram survival kit field manual by Mors Kohanski
    At loction 43 0f 234 of the E book edition he says .
    1. “Container: The container which doubles as a cooking pot is a three liter cooking-oil can, but as cooking oils are now mostly packaged in plastic containers, except olive oil one may have to use a 4 liter lantern or camp stove fuel container that has been thoroughly washed with a strong detergent. The top of the can is removed with a can opener. The handle is made of snare wire that has been doubled over until it about 8 strands thick. Punch holes, but do not put the handle on until it is needed.”…
    4 liters = 17 cups & 3 liters = 12 cups

    That was a pleasant surprise - informative, easy to listen to, knowledgeable and enthusiastic and finally no pointless intro! As it happens I have one big two small of same. I was looking through my cook kit photos - I also have a lot of Ti and behold which pot is the most used and photographed by me - the 1.2L Mors pot.

    • @geraldhenrickson7472
      @geraldhenrickson7472 4 года назад

      The true Mors bush pot was 7 cups. That is a bit bigger than what you have yet if you are happy...that is all that matters. These type of pots were in every military surplus store in the 60's and 70's for just a few dollars. I wish I had picked up a few more as mine is long gone. I went titanium just in case aluminum really IS bad for health reasons.

  • @ROE1300

    I like the idea of the Mors Bush Pot, but am concerned about the aluminum because of health concerns. Actually for the relatively short solo trips I take the smaller version works well. I did find a Toaks titanium pot that 1.1L with both bale and handles that is “reasonably” priced that removes my health concerns. I know people are divided on aluminum and some agree hard anodizing solves these health issues; in fact, growing up in the 50s and 60s most of my meals as a youth were probably prepared in aluminum cookware. My choice is I would rather have another material.

      @SwampValley 6 лет назад +5

      Bushcrafting in Tn I've melted aluminium cans many times but I guess I've never left an empty or dry pot on the fire long enough to melt it. If you keep putting beer cans in a steel beans can they smelt down and you can pour it into sand moulds great fun 😂

    LOVE my mors pots. I have the large (1.8L) & the smaller (1.1L) pots. I find the larger pot is good for 2 people, and use the smaller on solo outings. The smaller one fits inside the larger one IF you DON’T have bail handle installed on it. I did and now wish I hadn’t installed the bail handle. SO DECIDE WISELY GRASSHOPPER! Dans right, GREAT piece of gear, I especially like it’s anodized for nonstick cooking. S.S. Pots are good but sometimes not so nonstick & a bit heavier. Love the vids and channel subject, thanks. AL

  • @jamesellsworth9673
    @jamesellsworth9673 5 лет назад

    I'm looking for a pot that has a stand-up bail, maybe a flat bail. I liked the old Pathfinder style handle because it stood out from the body of the pot and stayed a little bit less hot. The handle was long enough to help stabilize the package as well, if you had something flat to work with.

    I love mine. I was stupid enough to put mine into the dishwasher so there is almost no anodizing on the inside and after foraging blueberries You can literally see burned in blueberries. Another thing is I put lemon juice in my tea so I had concerns about aluminium toxicity. I ended up buying this style and size pot from pathfinder which is not as good. The handles are weird and its heavier, but I have to get used to it.

  • @LShapedAmbush
    @LShapedAmbush 5 лет назад

    Its worth more than $38. The hard anodizing makes it really durable. I like stainless cookware as well, but in my experience if a stainless steel pot is thin enough to be anywhere near as light as the same size pot in aluminum, the stainless pot is susceptible to cracking when dropped.

    Was your Mors pot lid originally a tighter fit than what it seems to have in the video? I thought that the lids were supposed to have a pretty snug fit, but mine does not (looks about like it fits like yours). It's in no way a problem, I'm just wondering. Awesome piece of gear....I'm pretty much using mine exclusively now.

    I like the design of the Mors Pot, but have concerns about cooking using aluminum. Clearly concerns you do not share. 😀 Please help educate me further, why does cooking in aluminum pots not concern you? Is it the fact the Mors Pot is anodized? Would you have concerns if it uncoated aluminum?

    • @coasterbrookie
      @coasterbrookie 4 года назад +3

      Hi. I understand the concerns about aluminum. My mom cooked everything in aluminum. That is, bare aluminum. My mom lived to 91 and passed due to old age. Not a bit of memory loss. My dad passed at 96. He too had no issues with dimentia or anything related to brain function. I really think the link is pretty loose. Likely more to do with genetics than anything.

    Lars at SR also endorses aluminum cook pots so, you're not alone but, it's bad advice, Dan. Not wise to cook with containers made of neurotoxic materials. Stainless steel is safe and worth the weight. Titanium is pricey but safe and light. Stay away from aluminum.

      Scowler people die regularly of aluminium fume inhalation. Mostly when welding the stuff without adequate breath protection though.
      It's basically inert unless heated near the melting point or coated with teflon which over heats sooner and becomes permanently toxic if over heated or scratched.
