Regardless of the film company's questionable attempts at disguising it, that's one of the best soundtracks I've heard for some time

I think this must be the first time that a 9F heavy goods engine has been used for film making since Black Prince was used during the filming of Young Winston a film made about the younger days of a certain PM.
I hope the NYMR gets paid for steaming their 9F

It’s cool to think this is probably the closest we’ll ever get to seeing what wartime trains may have looked like. Also beautiful to hear the 9F working hard

@@Bigaid There is one goose that parades itself on RUclips, calling itself "Steam Locomotive Scrapper." He's a troll and an idiot! He only comes on these channels to make a nuisance of himself. His "hobby" as he puts it, is destroying anything old. I've dared him to take his views to one of the big Heritage Railways around the UK, and see how long he lasts, but he wont put his money where his mouth is. Well maybe some thought it was better to go to Germany and film this on a truly German locomotive. But we don't know if the plot extends to Britain with the capture of a British locomotive. Anyway this is probably the most German looking preserved locomotive in the country. All they'd need to do is change the deflectors and possibly paint everything red from the footplate down although that may cause some reactions to say the least.

Just saw the scene - thanks! 🙂
it's just funny that they marked it as 52 8079 - class 52 8... were so called "Reko" locos - class 52 "Kriegsloks" rebuilt later in the GDR. So, sadly not a fitting WWII number.
The real 52 8079 even is a preserved engine, here I captured it at a "Plandampf" event in 2007:

Definitely they won't .It is a big difference having few coal fired engines on heritage lines producing gross dust not having any contribution to the worldwide ejection to mass transport of Individual traffic on the roads or in the air.

Cost as well. The average public dont know the difference its only railway enthusiasts that know the difference. Probably easier to film here in the uk due to travel restrictions because of Covid and it's off the back of Mission Impossble 5 so maybe they are using the same production crews etc.
Indiana Jones is about ancient historical supernatural artifacts, voodoo, space aliens, jumping from a plane in a rubber dinghy, riding a mine cart and surfing a nuclear blast inside a fridge. Historical and scientific accuracy was never really its thing to begin with.

There are laws about displaying Nazi insignia in most of Europe, and I expect most loco owners would be reluctant to involve themselves anyway, seeing the British/American genre of absurd action movies where the villains are comicbook Nazis as in rather questionable taste

Great footage. It looks like the paint job is not complete. It also looks like rehearsing. I bet the crew are practising timings for the actual shots. If this is going to involve some sort of stunt work on the train, then timing is absolutely critical. I commend the fireman for keeping a very clean fire!

I fired a few 9Fs in my younger days. We were just moving the stock from Pickering to Grosmont so that the film company could use it. By the time we had got to the summit I was halfway into the tender digging for coal buried in the dust.

I’m a rivet counter and an Indy fan, and I don’t mind that they used a 9F for a German engine. No offence to the Germans, but British engines look much better. 👍
What did twist my melons though, was when they used a green 9F in “The Crown”, to pull the Royal Train in the 1930’s. 👎

Just a further thought, was it 2019 when NYMR dispensed with the War time weekend "German held station" at Levisham, owing to what one might call "political correctness", or distaste of the wearing of Nazi uniforms?
Does Indiana Jones pave the way for the Gemans to retake Levisham for 2022 ??!!
