  • Spoon carving, relaxing wood working in nature. Basic hand-tools only, axe, some (spoon) carving knifes, a small saw and some (scrap) wood. No need for many tools or workshop; this is outdoor bushcraft, i like to call it wood or forest craft.
    For more information read the full description!
    -----------------------------------------------------
    If interested, some of my spoons are on sale:
    www.etsy.com/s...
    - Which wood to choose?
    As harder the wood as longer resting the spoon. The finish gets smoother finish and the spoon easier to keep clean with closed pore wood.
    So fruit-trees like plum, apple, cherry are very good. But also Maple, Juniper, Lilac, Mountain Ash… Well, most woods are worth to be tried out!
    If you are beginner, i recommend to start with something softer: Alder, Tilia, Birch or even Pine.
    - Can you recommend some tools?
    Basically just a carving knife and some round carving knife is needed. Just start, with what you have or what is available. Agile hands will be able to create beautiful spoons also with lower quality tools. But keep an eye on the edge! Sharpness is the most important. So, if you purchase tools, make sure to also get all necessary sharpening equipment!
    - Some other tips?
    Use all your fingers! Use other parts of your body as "workbench".
    Specially while using the spoon-carving-knife to make the whole, focus on choosing the way to cut with the grain, instead of cutting against it. With the round form of the spoon, and if irregular wood is used this might become an interesting challenge and a chance to learn more about wood.
    There is no right or left handed. Both hands work as a team. One is good in keeping the tool, the other one is good in keeping the spoon.
    Most important: Make sure to enjoy and fully live every single cut!
    - How did the change of seasons occur so brusk in your movie?
    Well, some projects take their time… Usually I carve more in summer, when my fingers do not get cold too fast. But then it might happen, that there is a box full of spoons waiting to be oiled till winter. And winter is simply the season I spend more time inside with my computer.

    Very nice design and execution!
    Are you originally from Germany btw.? The video descriptions are translated perfectly and I saw the line "Löffel-Öl" on that little jar. Made me curious :D
    Greetings!

    Deine Werkzeuge sind sehr gut, funktionell! Ich habe mir vor vielen Jahren auch selbst Ausdrehhaken zum Drechseln selbst hergestellt. Sie haben gut funktioniert und lange gehalten! Faszinierend, wenn man probiert und tut und macht! Man probiert aus, verändert, probiert wieder, lernt dabei und hat Freude daran! Ich habe ähnlich gearbeitet, mit Holz-bzw. Holzkohle Feuer beim Ausglühen und Härten des Stahles!
    Gefällt mir sehr, Dein Video, Deine Werkzeuge!

    Hast du da trockenes Holz verwendet?

    • @littleforest
      @littleforest  2 года назад +2

      Hallo Jan!
      Ja, ich schnitze immer mit trockenem Holz. Es ist härter und mühsamer als mit Gruenholz. Mir taugt es einfach besser und man bekommt eine schönere Oberfläche. LG von hier!

      @@littleforest oha harte Arbeit 😉. Ich schnitze lieber Grünholz und gehe nach dem trocknen nochmal mit einem sehr scharfen Messer über meine Löffel. Aber interessante Herangehensweise 👍

    hi. Ich hab meinen letzten Löffel mit rohem Leinöl behandelt, was leider echt nicht sonderlich gut schmeckt... was benutzt du in deinem " Löffel-Öl"?

    • @littleforest
      @littleforest  2 года назад +1

      moin :-) Rohes Leinöl funktioniert wunderbar, wenn man es nur trocknen lässt. Dies kann einige Wochen dauern und funktioniert nur mit Licht. Ich habe eine selbst gemachte Mischung aus LeinölFirniss (trocknet in 1-2 Tagen), Leinölstandöl und Tungöl.
      Viel Erfolg!
