This is not supposed to be an accurate representation of reality. That's why the video title begins with: "IL-2 1946:". I'm showing of the game, not history.
Please stop complaining about the gunners, it's the game's fault, not mine. I made a new version with ACE gunners and Mustang escorts:

The idea that japanese fighters couldn't reach B-29s is a myth. If you read the US bombing survey, you will notice that sometimes hundreds of fighter attacks were reported by the B-29 crews. I'm sure they did count a lot of them multiple times, but it's a fact that the japanese fighters did reach them. Игры
cool to see people still enjoying playing over my modded Kyushu map after soooooooo many years. Did this in 2009 :)
thanks for making it :)

unless attacking with 30mm cannons, always aim between the engines to ignite the fuel tanks when attacking b-29. when these tanks burst into fire they will explode in less than a minute - the structure of the plane in general is so fucking thick that you can hammer bullets into it quite endlessly and the bird just keeps flapping.
The roar of the b29 engine and the whistling of the bombs sends a chill down my spine
15:10 banzaii!!
Fighters don't attack in a straight line, all ways in an angle or turning in an arc, so gunner have hard time to hit them.
Tried this one on one with the latest Japanese fighters of the period, and discovered it was extremely difficult to shoot down a B-29. At least in a "realistic" mode.
In reality it was hard to get near the B-29s with the escort Fighters hanging around
It was always hard to get close to B-29 formations. Escorts and the gunner AI tore fighters to shreds
6:58 sounds like the plane is saying : AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Right? Does It?

Also, planes are NOT in a good defensive "box". In Korea, those who maintained the "Box" seldom lost aircraft, even with 37mm armed Mig-15s around. If your box wasn't tight, you'd lose a plane/two. A lot IS dependent on the game.
Busted up a few tight boxes in my day. Usually had them sore and moaning at the end.
May I ask, would there be any way to add intercom communication of the B-29 crew, radio communications and scenes inside the bomber?
Also the same in the fighter aircraft?
Could these scenes and sounds be added now?
Thanks I am just not very knowledgeable.
A zero's top speed was 331mph. Later versions....maybe 350. Top speed in a B-29 was 360. The Zero never would have caught the B-29's. And are the B=29 gunners playing cards, or sleeping while the attack is underway?
I thought about how and if i should respond to this. I probably shouldn't. Anyway, i'll tell you my opinion.
I have to point out that this is a highlight video. It might look easy to shoot a B-29 down from my perspective. It is not. We had big issues catching those 29s at that altitude and player 29s would have been able to go even faster and higher. We lost about the same amount of fighters as the US did lose bombers.
Your first statement has nothing to do with the scenario at hand.
"A zero's top speed was 331mph. Later versions ... maybe 350".
This scenario plays at ~28.000 feet, you should talk about the speed of the zero at that altitude.
Your second statement has nothing to do with the scenario at hand.
"Top speed in a B-29 was 360." (mp/h)
Top speed is measured when a plane goes at full power, without any bombs, with a minimum of fuel and at optimal height. The B-29s over Japan cannot apply full power (Due to reliability issues), are loaded with bombs, are loaded with fuel and aren't operating at optimal height. B-29 top speed is 570+ km/h, cruising speed is ~350 km/h. I was very generous when i let the B-29s fly at 650 (!) km/h in the video. You need to talk about the B-29s speed with the needed bomb and fuel load. In reality you also would have think about reliability. (Reliability is no issue for AI in IL-2)
I'd like to agree with your third statement, i also like the 29, but i think it's wrong.
"The Zero never would have caught the B-29's."
A Zero with 20% fuel might very well have better flight charachteristics than a (probably damaged) B-29 with 60% fuel and 5 to 10 tons of bombs.
When it comes to the gunners, try playing such a mission yourself. It's normal to get a headshot in a head on attack. I cannot edit the gunners' behaviour, at least it is not my fault.
Wow! I defer to your superior knowledge and expertise !!! You have, obviously, taken quite a few factors into consideration that I didn't .
Yermak29 There's actual footage of the war of Zeros attacking B-29s and they could get close to them.
being weighed down by bombs is no doubt a factor.
your description of the difficulty of shooting down B-29s does not sound unlike the historical situation, the B-29 was after all a state of the art aircraft at the time and I'm sure multiple kills in any case were rare for a single Japanese fighter pilot.
That ending? 10/10!
The Japanese and the few planes they had - tried to catch the B-29s when the where turning after a bomb run, and usually head-on.
That last shot really hit the spot...
Nice editing. Good video 😀
P51s:*talking with the sexy planes*
Why the hell was the Japanese plane making the Jericho siren sound
It's a part of the VPmodpack. The engines do the sound when the plane does a dive and goes very fast. In this case, the wind is very strong and the plane goes fast enough to trigger the effect.
Japan had dive bombers with the Jericho siren but...
Lots of aircraft make interesting sounds at full power like whistling and supercharger whine but I doubt anyone on the other aircraft is going to hear anything.
Bobybot2004 and the bombs sound like they’re straight from a horror game...
All planes in world war two made a howling sound in any dive not just the stukas how ever the stukas had a siren the pilot turned in prior to the dive bomb run to enhance the sound and put fear in ground troops on the ground
Man, that was intense!
Reminds me of one of the Japanese campaigns where B-29 intercepts were the norm.
Totally incredible video and the way you played this game was super too..I do greatly appreciate your videos too..Thank you so so much...
Thank you. A new one is currently beeing rendered :)
Fishyyy YOUR WELCOME and very cool thank for letting me know..
B29 Superfortress was one of the best planes in WWII.
Me gusto mucho el final... a lo Banzaiiii...
That's what I loved about il2 1946 is you could fly bombers like the b-17 And b-29
Man....The Japanese sure did makes some weird looking planes..
Destens 2 cool too
Destens 2 yeah but deadly
True, true.

Gunner sees Japanese fighters approaching,"Aw fuck it". (Throws Vodka at it)
Il-2, still the best sim to this day
How do you make these?
The stuka siren on non-stuka aircraft pisses me off every time lol
Where is the fighter escort? You just can't leave the Big Heavies alone like that.
Many B-29 missions were unescorted. No other aircraft could go that far. Iwo Jima, from which the escorts eventually operated, was captured very late in the war. Get your facts straight before you complain, thx.
Those bomb shrieks are PTSD inducing
2:42 i love that sound.
I wish they would make this work in VR. I know the newer IL-2 is but the mission variety is not there.
I think you should try il-2 cliffs of dover
Are you planning to try out the new IL-2?
Battle of Stalingrad?
Yes, or Battle of Moscow. They should release Battle of Kuban in few months and pacific theater maybe next year.
I don't know yet. At the moment i'm not motivated to try any of those.
Mike Litoris I can't wait for battle of midway, which they are supposably coming out after Kuban.
You could try Kuban once it's released (ETA: December) has the Kuban region which is very nice looking, and some Lend Lease planes like the P-39L, A-20B and Spitfire in the premium version.
I tried to strafe the B29 in the game with Zero and N1K1 but i get hit too bad because The Gunner was too strong
Gunners in il2 are like super humans you can make a past in a bomber formation at 900km/h and be hit really bad
6:59 could he have turned around & machine gunned the parachutes?
I would still be playing this game right now if it had vr, but i cant go back to a 2d cockpit now.
I did get vr sort of working but it did not work well enough.
Man i miss zipping around in a zero.
idk if at 15:10 was just a stupid ramming thing you did in-game but didn't the japanese really do this sometimes? Only if they were like guaranteed dead or shot down then they'd do this right? It's like the story of the betty being critically damaged then trying to kamikaze into the Enterprise in 1942.
Japanese fighter pilots found it so hard to shoot down a single B-29 they did often ram them, but always from an extreme angle and not from the direct rear. Honda Minoru I believe was his name, ex fighter pilot and flying ace of the IJAAF said in an interview that if he had been on patrol at the time just prior to the Nagasaki bombing that he would’ve rammed the B-29 carrying the nuclear bomb if he had the chance to.
15:20 one hell of a Kamikaze
Lots of contrails even the wingtips of both fighters and bombers, but none from the fighters' engines?
1:21 Are those sounds from the falling bombs?
No that's the sound of the superfortresses siren in decaying it's going down
Actually it is! 2:43 see

Is this for the xbox i kno they have a version for it i thought the graphics were better tho ..not hatin or nothin

Is that a George(N1K1-J)?
There would not be much point bailing out of a B29 over Japan. Most captured aircrew were executed as far as I am aware. Better to hang on for a ditching near some friendly shipping?
Another great video
one game when i was a bomber once i got shot all my team went after the guy who shot me
I bet that the crew that bail out dose not survive the first week that how brutal they are
Why the Stuka dive bombing sound?
It is inside the mod VP-Modpack
Ultra 120 fps ?))
The end i knew it, kamekaze.
Such great original Japanese footage from WW2. Everything looks so clear and I'm not even wearing my glasses. Doesn't look like American Kodak Kodachrome, must be some type of Fuji film.
It's a game, IL2 1946
WAITO PIGGU GO HOME!
Modded game I guess? The whistling sound of the fighter's dive sounds a bit unrealistic to me. I doubt it comes from the stock game.
Every mod that has been used is stated in the description, with forum link. I don't like the siren sound at high speed either, but it's part of the mod and i won't get rid of it. The fighters do the sound, when they reach their highest possible speed, before breaking into pieces. They are so fast, because of the massive rear winds of the jet stream. The 29s move at ~650 km/h on the way to the target and ~430 km/h on the way back, because of the influence of the wind.
lol? how you make it? its a mission no?
one thing about them kamikaze they don't have reunions.
I love anything Todo with world war one and world war two you know those fly boys on all sides were brave
I like this videos!!!
Japanese planes are:Ki-84/N1K2J
Nice vid', thanks
I realize that the B29 were not escorted by fighters like the P38, P47 or P51 over Europe protecting the B17 and B24 ?
Only once Iwo Jima was captured, so very late in the war.
@@Fishyyy Thank you. Yes it makes sense considering the range of the escort fighters. Distances in the Pacific are of another level than in Europe, and besides the islands there is no way to capture or build airfields on the ocean.
Japan must be so raged at a single plane
Just an FYI, B29s wouldn’t go down so easily. If one engine goes out it can still fly. Also the gunners didn’t shoot but if they did then the Japanese planes would’ve gone down hella quick.
Again, the myth that b29’s were invincible or simply weren’t reached by Japanese fighters during the late stages of the war is simply false. B29’s were shot down over Japan in their hundreds by flak AND enemy fighters.
America's B40's can't outrun Zeros
xDarius MC b40s? wtf is that?
The B-40 is a heavily modified B-17 with lots of extra .50 cal Machine guns added to protect itself from German fighters. Obviously not a B-29 Superfortress
xDarius MC what's a B40?
Someone needs to get their eyes checked, or get a history lesson as these aircraft are obviously B-29's and N1K1 or Ki-84's.
Next time do some research before commenting, because you made yourself look like an Idiot Darius MC.
Final impresionante..
Way better than Atari i had growing up with. Lucky bastards.
I did not see any P51's with long range tanks flying fighter cover? Great video however, loved it.
Second one today? B-29 raids only were escorted once Iwo Jima was captured in March 1945, most B-29 missions were unescorted, because the targets were way out of range for any fighter. The distance from Tinian to Tokyo is 2400km. Compared to that, the 900km between England and Berlin - which is 'short' enough for Mustangs - is pretty short. The longest B-29 missions were over 4000km long, flown from India to South Japan.
@@Fishyyy Yes you are correct. Thanks for the insight.

Jesus, I would love to have VP but I'm afraid its too much work
Any other options to downloading.
Find somebody who already has a working VP installation, give him a visit and copy it on a usb stick :D
Lucky I installed it last night, I cant seem to extract it with 7Zip, and all the files appear to be "001, 002" etc files.
You have any idea whats goin on?
You asked for an alternative to downloading. Copying from somebody else.
There's a video installation guide in the VP thread...
What's up with the 1946 stuff. The war ended in 1945

2:00 lol
Could Japanese fighters(mainly Raidens and Ki-84s) climb even higher and dive down on B-29s? I guess such attack would have been more effective than head on
terrible times for humanity
I have a small problem with this video: the last zero model was the only fighter modified to combat B-29's. (Quote) "A6M5-S (A6M5 Yakan Sentōki) - Armament change: To intercept B-29s and other night-flying aircraft, an air arsenal converted some Model 52s to night fighters.[70] They were armed with one 20 mm Type 99 cannon behind the pilot, aimed upward, similar in intent to the Luftwaffe's Schräge Musik installation.[71] However, lack of radar prevented them from being very effective."
Zero specs, ceiling: 10,000 m (32,810 ft)
B-29 specs: Ceiling: 33,600 ft.
The zero is about 1,200 feet short of the max ceiling height of the B-29 [yet] the game sim shows the Zero about level, or above, which is clearly an ERROR!
It's a game, it's not going to be a 100% accurate, still here are some points:
The B-29 missions were flown at different altitudes, not all at the highest one possible. The raw data for the service ceiling does not tell the whole story. The weight difference between a fully loaded and an empty B-29 is over 26 tons, obviously a nearly empty one will be able to climb higher, then one that is loaded with tons of fuel, bombs and ammunition. A very light B-29 might be able to escape, while a loaded one might not be able to.
The idea that japanese fighters couldn't reach B-29s is a myth anyway. If you read the US bombing survey, you will notice that sometimes hundreds of fighter attacks were reported by the B-29 crews. I'm sure they did count a lot of them multiple times, but it's a fact that the japanese fighters did reach them.
By the way, I tested how high I can get in a B-29. (Insert stoner joke here) The answer is 44616ft or 13599m, I could not reach that altitude with any japanese fighter.
imgur.com/jmAZ1lJ
The IL-2 flight model data also states that a B-29 is faster then a Fw-190D-9 at over 9000m or ~30000ft. The makers of IL-2 did do their homework.
Why did that B29 take a nose dive after only one engine was hit?
