    What a brilliant vid, just adore the old Massey's. Had two on the estate farm where I grew up late 80s. Used to spend hours watching them. An 855 and 865. The 865 had a sooty grain tank side where the exhaust used to tip backwards. Great to see one still working. Brings back lovely memories.

      They certainly put out some smoke! We've no plans to retire this one any time soon. Does the job for us!

      @@DunstanFarming wouldn't be a Massey if it didn't smoke lol. The 760's were even worse for it!. Brilliant keep her going, not many around now! 👍

    Thank you for the wonderful Video Joe, Good to see this old Praire queen still going strong and in pretty good condition!, I grew up watching a 860 on a farm local to me, I loved watching it gracefully crossing the fields with it's iconic plume of smoke and sound, Now I have to settle with videos like yours to get my fix of seeing these things in action.

    I worked at a MF dealer in the UK when news of these big combines were coming over from Canada, it was all the talk in the fitters drinks time, size here were unheard of. It wasnt too long for the farmers with deeper pockets were buying them, the were given the nickname of "Super Jumbo" !

    • @DunstanFarming
      @DunstanFarming  3 месяца назад +1

      I hadn't heard of that nickname, nice to know! It certainly is big enough to move around where we are... small fields, narrow lanes, we have to notify police of each individual move as it's 6 inches too wide for a movement derogation. It is just right for us cost and capability wise though. Thanks for watching!

    Nice video well presented are used to work for a Massey: dealership back in the 1970s and had some experience of these big combine for its time
    I think my neighbour still has one sitting in a barn here in Suffolk. I particularly like the old Perkins 540 V-8 engine So in recent years I bought myself an 1155 open station tractor it certainly puts a smile on your face always look forward to getting it out to do autumn cultivation work. Look forward to seeing some more of your classic equipment.
    Kind regards Ray Debenham Lawshall Suffolk

      Thanks, We already had the Land Rover Defender with diesel tank for refueling tractors in the field, before buying the combine. We then added the signage for use as an escort vehicle. Colour match purely by coincidence, they do look smart together!

      They really do stand out, especially around here due to their size. We're running this as our main and only combine having moved away from getting a contractor in a few years ago. Perfectly capable for our needs.

    So pleased to find this video , I specialised on the North American combines from the 700 and through the 800 series repairing them and
    demonstrating them. I see the header at least came from Chandlers in Lincolnshire so i may have worked on it at some time.

    • @DunstanFarming
      @DunstanFarming  3 месяца назад

      Yes, the header was originally supplied by chandler's. I also have a standard header for it, but bought that separately. No idea what happened to its original header.

    • @DunstanFarming
      @DunstanFarming  3 месяца назад

      yes, this has had the separator removed for that reason and that straw could wrap around them, also had the walkers slowed down to 860 spec. Masseys of this era were certainly built well though, still going strong after 40+ years! Thanks for watching!

    The early MF 760's and later the 860's were very popular here Downunder in our rather hot n dry out large outback fields, many contract harvestor's made a decent living with them and the convention combine were more economical on their fuel consumption in most crops. Regards,Bill.

    • @DunstanFarming
      @DunstanFarming  3 месяца назад

      I didn't know they were popular in Australia, good job they have a good air con system then! Bet it was quite a sight to see them working in the large fields (or is it paddocks?), our fields are much much smaller, the one in the video is our largest at 22 acres!

      @@DunstanFarming As i'm refering to the Eastern States here, as there are 500-700 and 1000 and even larger acre fields as one could imagine in the early days we'd spend days and weeks in the same wheat fields then as i do hold many fond memories of the 1960-70's era,unlike todays A$900k combines with AB triples road trains, and high debt and stress level farming with so few spare parts are kept on hand in new Gen agencies/dealers shops.

    Top video love the old MF combines unfortunately not so many running in the UK these days. In my opinion the older combines are much better and more reliable than the crap being produced today.

    • @DunstanFarming
      @DunstanFarming  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, very reliable and the most important for me, easily workable if they do go wrong! Certainly built well to be still in yearly use after 40+ years without any intention of retiring it.

    I see it has a Starks Harvesters decal in the front window, so I guess you got it off a couple of good old boys in North Norfolk ?
    There was an immaculate 865 near Lincoln, that these two lads bought, I wonder if this is the one ?

    • @DunstanFarming
      @DunstanFarming  3 месяца назад

      Well spotted! You guess correct as to who we bought it from! Good old boys indeed. This isn't the immaculate one though, I wouldn't feel worthy of an immaculate one at the moment as we really do 'use' it and our Cornish lanes often rub both sides to squeeze through. We'd like to do some odd jobs to it to smarten it up a bit though including new paint to the cab and some replacement panels etc. Time to do any cosmetic job has been a bit elusive lately! Thanks for watching the video.

    Hello from France, I knew these big Canadian Masseys well... extraordinary combines , except the engine is not powerful enough... thanks for the video, it brings back memories, yours is very beautiful, do you know its serial number and year of manufacture ?

    • @DunstanFarming
      @DunstanFarming  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for watching. We would like to do some tidying up on this one... new paint on the cab, replace some of the panels etc. I find the engine is fine in this one in the field but we are not running a straw chopper (bale all our straw) which I imagine would zap the power and it's not the quickest on the road I'll admit. It's an 81/82 reg. Would have to delve further to confirm exact manufacture year.

      @@DunstanFarming To go faster , you have to modify the cleaning box , you have 3 cascading grids , at the level of the middle one you have a small grid with round holes ( you have to unbolt it and remove it ) , increase the winds and direct them differently .... the principle of the 3 cascading grids is great but requires careful adjustment
      My English is very average I hope you will have understood my explanation , thank you again

      Yes, it certainly is a road full down here on our Cornish roads. In fact this older 865 is wider than most of the more modern combines around here, one of the reasons we remove the cab steps completely for road travel. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
