- On Thursday, SAG-AFTRA announced it is going to strike starting July 14, after it failed to reach a deal with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers, which represents several major studios. The move will effectively shut down Hollywood and it is the first time the union has gone on strike since 1980. After the union made the announcement, SAG-AFTRA President and actor Fran Drescher delivered a fiery speech explaining why the union had no choice but to call for a strike. "We are the victims here. We are being victimized by a very greedy entity I am shocked by the way the people we have been in business with are treating us," she said.

Well spoken, but it might have had some more impact coming from someone who wasn't worth over $25 million dollars. Kinda hard to say you're labor too. You get to play make believe and get paid for it. I don't think dockworkers pulling 12 hour shifts or warehouse workers with back problems would see it the same way. Change does need to come to a lot of labor jobs. But I have a lot less sympathy for one where the "labor" is worth 8 or 9 figures and is demanding more money for themselves. Last time this happened the big stars got big bumps and the character actors and background folks got peanuts.
