Ngl there is still a detail that can makes this theory horrifyingly worse it's not Bayverse Optimus it's this Optimus from the future. They did say the key allows travel through space and time the maximals are from the future they even say they get their heroic sacrifice saying from Optimus. So the order is Unicron in present day awakens starts devouring the universe and tries to get the key to do it all over again for his hunger is never ending. Optimus finds the key and gives it to the maximals to hide sacrificing himself to hide the location and holding Unicron back for a while. But Optimus didn't know Unicron can control you/ reformat you (a power he has in other continuity's) and as scourge he knows the location because well he hid it and that's the start of the movie hence why scourge knew the planet apelink is on. My theory is, Optimus got into a fight, he loses, many of his autobots died, he got damaged very badly, unicorn found him brained washed him and turn into scourge
Maybe Optimus in other universe ( bay verse ), Optimus were fighting all of transformers from all different verses.

I don't know what to say about that theory but I always had a theory that he was a evil clone and his name scourge was a reference to the evil Optimus prime in 2001 robots in disguise

Ngl there is still a detail that can makes this theory horrifyingly worse it's not Bayverse Optimus it's this Optimus from the future.
They did say the key allows travel through space and time the maximals are from the future they even say they get their heroic sacrifice saying from Optimus.
So the order is Unicron in present day awakens starts devouring the universe and tries to get the key to do it all over again for his hunger is never ending. Optimus finds the key and gives it to the maximals to hide sacrificing himself to hide the location and holding Unicron back for a while.
But Optimus didn't know Unicron can control you/ reformat you (a power he has in other continuity's) and as scourge he knows the location because well he hid it and that's the start of the movie hence why scourge knew the planet apelink is on.
The only problem is how they got to the present day from the future without the key? I can only assume the way they traveled can't fit a plant sized creature hence why Unicron sent his heralds instead using the method himself.
