Great content as always Vince! I think we all can agree that varnishing is definitely the best part of painting process. Especially for low value and dark colored paintings, I love it when the painting comes alive and looks like freshly painted when I apply varnish, one of the most satisfying things for an artist haha I’m using same cheap sponge brushes too, varnish is a brush killing substance, better use cheap stuff and throw it away because cleaning varnish is a total mess. Sadly though, Gamblin products are a bit expensive where I live so I have to use mostly other european brands for varnishing like winsor and newton and lefranc and they are not like gamvar, I have to wait at least 6 months before using them on a painting
it IS like Christmas! You get to fall in love with your work all over again

Good to know your products and how to use them. Varnish for the win! Especially on the dark values!
