Thanks. This is very helpful. I've just had my CEM checked, a new processor installed and reprogrammed. All is well now. It helped considerably that I could remove the module myself and take it to a specialist. At £100 per hour labour it saved me a lot of money.
Sham Sham . The car ran normally most of the time, but in hot weather when driving it would judder momentarily and I would usually get an abs warning light and/ or an srs warning light. Then I would lose all dials and dash lights. The indicators wouldn't work, and often the windows and central locking would fail. I have VIDA, and after a reset things returned to normal. Sometimes I had to do a hard reset by disconnecting the battery and touching the terminals together. VIDA told me I had an intermittent CEM fault. Luckily I have a good independent Volvo guy nearby who overhauled the CEM as above. A new one is over £1000, plus the cost of reprogramming it. Hope this helps.
@@1506pinkers so I knew 100% that It was cem as I'm getting faults codes. However I did not know that my abs problem was also related to this. I was kinda confused as to why all of a sudden the car was reporting a fault with brakes. I didn't have abs light I got message saying brake performance decreased on dash in the little message window.
@@1506pinkers I got problem on my s60 biofuel and I got a v70 2.4 that I'm picking parts from are you saying that the cem will not work without reprogramming it.
Great video, I'm about to remove a CEM from a 2004 S60R, it has a suspected CRM problem with the following conditions : clicking under drivers side dash followed by all gauges going back to zero then they come to life again, get a bit further down the road and gauges and digital readouts drop out followed by a big clunk in the transmission. By this stage the CEM appears to have shut down resulting in the power windows, AC control and blinkers not working, a quick pull over and turn the ignition completely off and on again will usually gain control of most systems again but it doesn't last long, this car has only 112,000 kilometres but I have another similar car with double the kilometres and it has no issues. I will remove the CEM and retrieve the part number and email this to you. Hope this helps others diagnose the CEM.
Hey Darrin, I don't know if you ever got your problem solved, but I've seen similar issues with most 2004s that is down to the CEM overheating. I wired a computer fan to mine and it has been working since.
Thank you. I just snapped a picture of the relays/shunts with my phone to record their placement for reassembly. This video helped me get at my CEM ('02 v70 2.4t).
Awesome video! This is giving me a new hope to a problem I am having with my 2004 CX90 T6/AWD. The CX90 is running quite smooth just like when I first drove if off the lot back in NOV 2003. I have parked/garaged it for almost two years because of an “intermittent” problem that a VOLVO dealership could not fix, they could not even tell me what causes the problem. MY XC90 engine will just cut off without any secondary indications, but each time this occurs it will start right back up and run like nothing happened. The Volvo dealership stated they could not see any codes on their Engine/Computer Analyzer that would cause my XC90 to cut-off in that manner. They practically said we can’t fix it but will give you $$$ (a lowball offer) if you trade it in… I said, “no thank you”, and I just parked it. I would like to inspect my CEM as you have demonstrated on your video before I make another step/decision. 1. If I unplug the CEM to “visually inspect”, will I be able to operate/start the XC90 again upon re-plugging it back to the harness? 2. If there is evidence of corrosion on the CEM, do you have a local branch near Richmond, Virginia that can repair the CEM . I’d greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thank you!
+VAL CAPATI Hi Val. Yes, if you unplug the CEM for inspection you need to reinstall the CEM back into the vehicle to operate/start. I spoke to our tech and he asked if you are able to supply us with previous documents from the dealership with the fault codes from your vehicle? We do not have a local branch in Virginia, but you can still mail us your unit. We are located in Ontario, Canada and we ship internationally. If you would like to place an order, please call us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 and speak to our Sales Rep. They will walk you through the process. Thank you!
+XeMODeX Inc Thank you for the response and additional information. I'm hoping for a better weather and warmer temperature to actually do this. Hopefully I can find the unknown culprit that's causing this problem. I am currently looking for the Volvo Analyzer print out and I will send you a copy, if we go that route. Again, thank you.
Just in case anyone is trying this with a V70, you have to turn the little tab on the side foot compartment molding before you just rip it out like he did in the video or you will break something. It then pushing toward the rear and pops out. Also, the xemodex troubleshooting document that brought me here talks about running the car with various environments (e.g., with relay removed and voltmeter attached) designed to duplicate / diagnose problem. How is that supposed to work if I have to disconnect the battery?
what astoundingly great service...to suggest I disconnect the siren in hopes o f relieving the no start problem!! Thank you for that. I wonder if the car will still run if I just disconnect the siren? I see the challenge of replacing the battery, and do not feel I need the siren, and happy to do without it is the start problem solved. Await you expert opinion and leave my gratitude..Thank You!! Bill
thank you so much for this ....thought my cem was the one in engine bay right side ha ha ....BUT man did that needed a clean anyway , but still got ecm fault, but now i know what and where to look . THANKS

I’m about to do this to my S40. I’ve been getting many intermittent alarms (all of them) and door electronics issues. (windows, locks, etc.) I hope this helps my problem.
I have a 2006 s60 2.5t with a CEM issue. Do you have any recommendations online that will fix them? I have none very close locally and the mechanic I have taken to has told me a repair like this still has a chance of not lasting even after repair. So I’m just wondering if it’s common to run into the issues more than once even after repair or should I send it to a better repair man. Also I was told if this repair doesn’t last I’d have to get a new part and completely recode it to my specific vehicle. And once again I don’t have a lot of options locally than help. The car is gonna cost me a fortune either way but I just need it back moving either to drive or sell.
This could be the answer?? My 2000 S80 has different engine (not sure which one), but intermittently hard to or refuses to start,,turns over, does not sound like fuel pump engaged. sun roof won't open, battery drains, sometimes if I jump to start it then stalls..based on your expert experience, do you suggest I send the CEN to you to solve? Very gratefull for what you provided for us all, now await your verdict..Thanks, Bill
+Bill Niland Hi Bill, We recommend that you disconnect the siren module located inside right front wheel well. When you disconnect it, see if your sunroof starts to operate. Also see if the other issues still occur. For further assistance and inquiries, please ask to be transferred to tech support at 1-888-712-2525. Thank you!
Hi, today stopped at the gas station’s ATM and turned my s60 II 2012 d3 off and than again turned the music on, so it played while I was away. After I got back, slipped the key into a hole and bam... blackout. No electricity whatsoever. Dead! So, after 10 min thinking I got ahead to the battery, took the both clamps off, waited 5-6 sec, put the clamps back on and bam... all the gizmos went back as they were before. Started the car normally. I’e never had such an experience in my 18 yo car possession life. Any hint?
Hi. What is E001 code? When putting my foot down on 2004 automatic XC90 it loses power and then I switch off the car and it's ok...until I accelerate hard again.
Hey guys, My 2004 XC90 was in limp mode so I disconnected the battery and pulled the ECM and CEM out. Pulled all the relay's etc out, sprayed everything with electronics cleaner and put everything back fresh and tight. Car started and runs great but now I have a SRS Airbag Urgent message. Is this a stored message? Is that normal after pulling a CEM?
hi, is this a CEM Type-1 type2 or Type3? If it's for a 2002 Volvo v70xc , does it use type 1 type2 or Type3? I need to know as I am told that to program new key I need to know what type it is. Thanks if you can reply but quickly.
Hey man useful video! I have a rather interesting project. I have a 2020 S60 heated/ cooled seat with all the elctrical components. I believe the module found under the seat is what controls the axis movements on the seat. However is there a possibility that I can (lets say a raspberry pi) contol the heating and cooling functions of the seat? Note the seat is not in a car and will not be, however I would like to be able to to control all functions of the seat. Any chance we could communicate? Any insights I would be absolutely thankful for!
Hello, Thanks a lot for the great illustration and repairs video. I have a 2002 Volvo S80 2.9 litres car of which I lost the start key for some years now. I decided to keep it in the garage till i get a good and competent programmer to reprogram a new key for it. Unfortunately, the one who worked on it took away the original CEM and the uncoded key for the programming, then came and fixed it back, but the Dashboard signals and lights were all gone with nothing working. Not even the window glasses. The only signal on the Dashboard was the "Check Engine". The car couldn't start neither. I tried another programmer who later also destroyed the traces on the motherboard for the main CHIP when he tried to read the code. I got mad and took the key and CEM back. I'm totally confused and wish you could advise and help me out. Is there any way I could send some pictures of the car and the destroyed traces in the CEM? So that you see clearly what I mean. Thanks again.

Hi XeMOFeX i would like to ask about my xc70 D5 manual 2007. Because i check my dtcs diagnos i saw my CEM,BCM and DEM are need to be set. Do you think all of this need to repair or one of those is broken and causing some modules to error.? Thanks
Hi Nuj. I spoke to our tech and he said it's most likely just one module causing interference in the network. You can contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 and ask to speak with our tech support. They will help you determine which module is the issue and help you through the process. Thank you.
Hi Joe. Thank you for your comment. For this particular CEM, we determined that the corrosion was due to leakage in the sunroof drain. Another reason why this could occur is if the windshield is replaced and is not sealed correctly. These are uncommon problems with the 2004 CEM, unlike the 2005 and up CEM. The 2005 CEM are known to have water intrusion problems.
Hola amigo yo tengo un volvo xc90 y me esta presentando un problema eléctrico muy grande que mantiene las luces encendidas a toda hora y los intermitentes no funcionan haaa y me descarga la batería en poco tiempo
I'm curious as to just how water gets in these. My 02 V70 is showing classic signs of CEM fuckery and I suspect it's why my sunroof suddenly stopped working and My AC no longer blows cold.
do you think if I have the aircon on full blast it would help me make that 1000Km? or taking off the covers and blasting the aircon and/or a cigaret lighter fan (bit of an out there idea I know).
Hi, was just looking at your video and it seems you really know what your doing here. I have a 2002 Volvo S80 2.9 that drives normally but the gear position indicators on the dash are just "dashes", also has a "transmission service required" light on the dash. Once again I want to say that the car presently starts up drives and shifts normally, but I am wondering what could be causing these indications. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
+Max Speedster Hi Max. Thanks for watching our video! I spoke to our tech and he says it may be your ABS or transmission control module going offline. He says the issue may be interference from either the ABS and TCM. He recommends that you disconnect the ABS and see if the "transmission service required" message comes back on. Let us know what happens and so we can help you further. You can reply to this comment or call us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 (US and Canada only) and ask to speak to our tech support. Hope this helps!
I have a 2001 S60 diagnosed by Volvo shop...as a bad CIM...for $1400,,car is wworth $2500....no ROI there so I found your site,... followed the steps removed the CIM replaced with same year and model ...and ran into the key code how do I re program the key to this new CIM .?? Serial number on new CIM ?? please advise James
Hi James. We can transfer the programming from your existing CEM to one of our remanufactured modules. Please call us and ask to speak to our tech support 1-888-712-2525 (Canada & US) or email us info@xemodex.com. One of our techs will walk you through the process. Thank you.
when it turned off I heard a clicking sound from the area where the CEM is located. Does this mean it could be something else or it is still the overheat issue?
We should be able to help! Please visit our website for pricing and further details about our Central Electronic Module repair and program transfer services.
Great video, thanks! I have a 2001 V70 T-5 and I didn't get to change the timing belt for the 3rd time quick enough and it broke. Engine is obviously now dead. I am looking at a 2003 S60 that supposedly needs a new CEM. Wondering if the 2001 CEM is compatible with and can be used in the 2003? Thanks. John
Hi Evan. Simply put, no. The CEM is programmed to the vehicle. Alternatively, you can send in your 2003 S60 CEM to us for testing and we can determine what the fault is and if it can be rebuilt. You can contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525. Thank you.
Thanks for the informative video! I have a some questions. 1, what was wrong with the car in this video. (What electrical issues was it having before repair that made you pull Central Electric Module?) 2, the water intrusion, where did it come from? And did you address that issue? (I just rear the other comments and saw that you suspected it was from sunroof drain. Has thet car been back? 3, what kind of warranty do you give on this repair? Thank you. FL Bill
Hi FL Bill, Central Electronic Module failures may cause a number of issues in the vehicle including intermittent communication failures and relay control failures. In this case, the customer had already diagnosed their vehicle at their local automotive shop where it was determined that the Central Electronic Module was the issue. They then brought the vehicle to us for a CEM Program Transfer service where we transferred the programming from the original unit to a remanufactured and upgraded CEM from our stock. The warranty for these units depend on the year and model of your vehicle. Please visit our website www.xemodex.com/us for more information on our products and services. Thank you!
i have 2003 s80 and no indicators, dip lights, wash wipe, steering wheel functions and no central locking have you any ideas what i should look for?many thanks.declan
Hi XeMODEXI just discovered your web on the internet as I am trying to get a solution to my car, I hope you will help me. I have a Volvo XC90 2004 model, the dashboard switches off after a few hours of driving and I wont be able to use the indicators, power windows, stereo etc but the engine will be running. Sometimes the car jeks a little bit. Could it be the CEM that has a problem?
Hi Lloyd. I spoke to our tech and he said it may be an issue with your CEM. We do offer a Program Transfer service where we transfer the programming from your existing CEM to one of our remanufactured and upgraded units. Please give us a call toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 (Canada & US) or e-mail us at info@xemodex.com and one of our techs will help you verify the problem and walk you through the ordering process. Thank you.
My dash stoped working (needles , all dash lights) also my center controls such as A/C and heater wont turn on. Only the radio works. Turing signals and wipers still work but my driver seat does not work anymore. Could all this be related to the CEM? I have a 2001 V70 xc
Hi, i have a 2002 xc70, i use a icarsoft scanner and got 1a5c code, lost cluster, and the car began to behave strange. I turn it off, wait 5 or 10 minutes and works again. Sometimes alarm inmobilizer comes and shuts down the car. Please help!
Hi Julio! Thank you for your interest in our module repair and programming services. Please visit our website or contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 for further assistance.
I have a car where there's no AC, radio, power windows, wipers, exterior lights for 5 minutes on a cold start. After 3 minutes of idling, the AC starts, after 2 more minutes the wipers and lights start (after an insane amount of clicking noises in relays all over the car). Is this the CEM? is it enough to change relays or does the whole damn thing need replacing? I've been informed by Volvo Dealership that the DIM needs replacing (that's like 1100 gpb) I believe that's not the correct diagnosis. Please enlighten me :)
4 minutes of explaining how to disconnect the battery followed by "just pop the CEM out" I think if anyone is at this stage, they know not to have the battery connected when doing this kind of work.
I have 2004 xc90 with no start condition the rpm gauge doesn't read while cranking, other gauges work. It just lost power one day while driving, now it cranks but wont start. Only one other time i lost power while driving but recover on its own.I tried replacing the crankshaft position sensor but still no signal to cluster and the fuel pump can be heard working and all fuses and relays are ok. Could this be my problem?
Alberto Fabrega Hi Alberto, Try doing a hard battery reset and see if the car restarts. If the car starts, we recommend that you get the car scanned. If the car starts there is a possibility that the TCM is faulty (it controls the RPM signal to dash) If all else is okay then the CEM is most likely at fault.
I'm having this problem with my 2002 Volvo s80 2.9. do I have to have the CEM removed and sent to you? and How much it cost! please give me a reply. I like my Volvo but Just had transmission put it and it's now starting to be a money pit and I need my car!
Hi Donna. We need more information regarding the symptoms your vehicle is experiencing before we advise you on the next steps. my fuse box cover in the engine shows list of fuses on the "upper side" and also "under side". any idea where is the "under side"? the list shows "ffm8 - radiator fan - 60 mA" (which stopped working that I'm trying to fix) 03 v70 2.4t
Hi Tomas. I spoke to our tech and he said that under the hood, Fuse #8 in the fuse box is for the cooling fan. He said there are no other fuses or relays in this circuit. He said you should review the electric cooling fan wiring diagram for more information.
Hey I love your vid.. I have xc90 from 2003 and i have "breakfail. Stop now" and code is CEM 1A5F. It cant connect to my bcm.. what do i have to do with the cem? Same thing that you did, will it help?
Hi Frank, that's usually a high speed bus failures resulting in loss of communication between ECM, TCM and BCM. In the most common scenario the ABS and transmission warning messages will appear following a loud clunk from the transmission. The best way to know is to send it in but we need more info. You can fill this out to get tech support: xemodex.com/us/technical-question-form/
"remove the electrical connector with a ratchet". The screw turns around infinitely, trying for hours, found no way to remove that cover without breaking it. So it broke. Still couldn't find a way to disconnect the power connector. The hard parts are those that go quickly in the video when the guy goes with his hands in front of the camera so you see nothing. Getting the CEM removed is 99% of the job, placing a heat sink is easy.
I’m having the same issue. I cannot for the life of me get the connector out. Gonna try wiggling it out with a flathead. Wish it was as easy as it seems in the video:/
my 1999 volvo s80 2.9 do not want to start it do like is goin to start but nothing and the oil light do not turn on and when it do the car start on what it could be? plz help
My apologies, this is too little information for us to determine your problem. First you should get the car diagnosed at a shop and read for any diagnostic trouble codes. If you can provide us with the trouble codes then we can help you further. You can contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525. Thank you.
great vid my situation is different my S60 doesnt start battery is good and all lights in the dash is working but wont crank cleaned terminals too but nothing all fuses are good i hear a click by the shifter and in the rear by the battery when i turn the key do you have any idrea what it might be??TY
+myviews Thanks for watching our video! I spoke to our tech and he said the issue may be a faulty CEM. It seems that there is no signal to activate the starter relay during the immobilizer start process. We recommend that you disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes, then reconnect and see if the car starts. Also try a different key if you have more than one key. Make sure that the antenna ring is operating properly. If none of these suggestions help, remove and send the CEM to us for testing or have your CEM diagnosed at a repair shop that specializes in Volvo.
Hi lrnelson72. It depends entirely on the symptoms that your car is experiencing. If you provide us with information about your vehicle we can help diagnose your problem. Generally, for these years/models the most common issues are related to heat when the CEM overheats. For our CEM remanufacturing service, we include a brand new heat sink to help dissipate the heat. We also get some units coming in with water damage from water intrusion.
Hello- just came across your video while looking for answers to what I thought were transmission problems on my 2001 Wagon, V70 T5. The wagon idles high, jerks forward while the car is stopped with brake on. Sometimes it shuts off as I slow down, before coming to a complete stop; I put it in park and it turns right back on with no problem. The jerking and high idling does calm down if I put it in neutral (while stopped). Mechanic has replaced several parts and took it to Volvo dealer to get tested. They said it was some kind of sensor in the transmission and that it would cost a lot to replace. I am confused, don't know really what it is but my gut tells me is not the transmission. Does what I describe sound familiar? Can you give me any advice?
Hello. I spoke to our tech and he said it could be a number of issues and he will need more information from your vehicle to determine what the problem is. Go to your local Volvo dealer and ask the mechanic to scan your vehicle for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Ask them to provide you with a print out of the DTC report. We will need you to email us this information. Our tech said that Volvo dealers have a "complimentary diagnostics service" where they will scan your vehicle free of charge and provide you with the report (more info here volvo.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9217). Once you receive the DTC report, email a copy to info@xemodex.com with your vehicle information and issues you are experiencing. Our tech will reply back to you shortly and help you determine the issue. Thank you!
I got my CEM about HALFWAY out... I pulled it foward and the tab to the car-center side slid out nicely but the tab to the car-outside side will not disengage no matter how much up pull it or try to wiggle it free. The white metal bracket itself (shown at 8:24 in your video) is flexing as a try to pull or push the relay housing / CEM. It's like they are welded together. WTF Volvo!? I'm guessing with the number of these that you pull, you might have a solution (short of removing the whole dashboard). Any suggestions?
Hi Robert. We hope you were able to solve your problem. If not, please contact us to speak to our tech so we can help you diagnose your vehicle over the phone. You may contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 or visit xemodex.com.
Santiago Gonzalez Hi! No, there is no fuse for the brake lights on the CEM (04 and down). The brake lights are fused on the REM (rear electronic module).
Hello XeMODeX, Great video ! Question, (I'm French, so sorry for the bad English), my dashboard won't come on when I start the car but the engine is running and I can drive. I have a xc90 - 2004 - diesel. Volvo says that I have to replace the DIM and the CEM. Can I buy a reprogrammed one on the net or do you sell these things ? Also, the car is less powerful since the problem appeared. Best regards, Alex
Hi Alex. Please call us toll-free 1-888-712-2525 (US & Canada) or send an email to info@xemodex.com with your vehicle year, make, model, VIN number, and a list of DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) from your vehicle. This will help our tech support determine the issue. We do offer remanufactured modules for Volvo including the DIM and CEM. Our customer service rep will reply to your email and walk you through the ordering process. Thank you!
My dash gauge lights won't come on, my air controls won't work, and my driver seat won't move. Its like there's no power getting to it. But everything else works.
hello i would like to help you with a thing, i have a 2004 volvo xc90 with the steering wheel on the right and its signals are no longer not on the right panel that i controlled, i was told that it is a lighting relay but i don't know where It is . can you help me please nice
Hello. We hope you were able to solve your problem. If not, please contact us to speak to our tech so we can help you diagnose your vehicle over the phone. You may contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 or visit xemodex.com.
I have a 2002 Volvo S60 2.4t and some of the electrical components will stop functioning and at times they'll work. Recently the dashboard has stopped working and I removed it and cleaned it and got a check engine light, which is the only thing that actually shows on my dashboard. Do you think it could be the CEM?
Hi Frank. I spoke to our tech and he said it could be your CEM, but he would need more information from you to help determine the problem. Call us toll-free (US & Canada) at 1-888-712-2525 and ask to speak to tech support. If you're located outside North America, send an email to info@xemodex.com. Thank you.
+XeMODeX Inc I tried to call but my phone has really bad connection. My dashboard would randomly stop working, at times it would stay stuck at a certain mileage and sometimes all the light would come on it. The trunk would sometimes require me to open it by key since it wouldn't want to open. The radio will sometimes not want to turn on and the text box sometimes will be displayed backwards or it'll be acting up. The right side window will some times not want to work at all.
Hi Frank. Please send an e-mail to info@xemodex.com with your year/make/model and symptoms that your vehicle is experiencing. Our tech specialist will help diagnose and give suggestions for further testing. Let them know your phone has bad connection and that you prefer to correspond through e-mail. Thank you!
Hi Kevin. This method will not work. The CEM is specific to the VIN of your vehicle. You can send us your CEM for repair and select express shipping to minimize the downtime. Please contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 or visit xemodex.com to see what options we have available for your vehicle.
XeMODeX Inc Hi, I happen to get to this video after so many research. I live abroad, have a nice S80 T6 2003, that is hard to start, it will ckrank but won`t start usually after the third try. I have cleaned the MASF and the rubo module, remove battery, reset key so many times, now is getting worst, use to start after a couple of tries with the switch on II back an forth and it woul start on the third try. Now sometimes, it just won`t start although it cranks. Once started it runs perfect. Would that be the CEM? Thanks a lot for your help.
Jorge E. Solórzano btw, no fuel pressure sometime when craking, but although theres fuel there, on the pipe port on the engine it won`t start neither. Thanks
2004 XC90. After 2 hours I get three engine skips followed by BRAKE FAULT followed by BLANK instrument panel, car in limp home. Shut off car, wait, turn on with SRS warning. I pull 928C, 530B and 00D5 codes. Once I clear them everything seems to reset. I can do small trips over and over, no issues. Only happens on long drives. CEM module?
Mark Ward Hi Mark, It sounds like a CEM issue, because your codes indicate that you have issues in both high speed network and low speed network. Do you have any specific CEM codes such as E000 and 1D07 ? Please let us know so we can further assist you. Thank you!
Hi JAMCastillo1. I spoke to our tech and he said for most Volvo vehicles the signal flasher is part of the switch on the dashboard and is not part of the CEM. Are you experiencing any other issues with your vehicle? What is your year/model?
So I went to the service and they found out the fan works intermittently. They recommended to get new one from dealer. On the way home, I left the a/c on when the fan kicked in. The car is not worth much so I'm not going to fix it. , and only keeping it because my wife feels safer in it that her Scion TC. She will drive it only in rain to feel safe with the child.
Hi Tomas. I spoke to our tech and he said your best bet is to find a good used unit and put it in. He said that he has had problems in the past with aftermarket fans. He recommends finding a used Volvo unit from a local scrap yard. Hope this helps!
Hello, I have seen your videos and I have the following question. on my C70 2012 Volvo, it's got those RFID-enabled door handles which means if the original key is near the door handle, then, either pressing the button, or pulling the handle, should automatically unlock the doors in case they are locked. Also, if you intend to lock the doors, pressing the black door handle button with the KEY nearby should also allow the doors to react and lock. After getting a paint job, I noticed that the right-door stopped reacting to this function. Only the trunk and the driver's door react correctly. Being from the technology side, I feel there is some RFID sensor that is either malfunctioning or missing for it NOT to sense that the KEY is within 30 cm outside the lock for it not to react. Pressing the lock/unlock on the remote control makes all doors react correctly. Do you have an idea how I can solve this problem?
Hi Yaser. I asked our tech and he said he has heard if this issue before, but it is not something that we can fix. He said that you should ask your local dealer if there are any software reloads that can be performed regarding this problem. Hope this helps.
Hello and thank you for your response. In fact, it's more physical than actual programming. There are I am sure external antennas somewhere in the door handle or in the door panel that senses if the KEY is within inches from the door, and therefore, it is not sensing and not responding. Inside the car, on the radio panel, there are settings for enabling/disabling this feature either per door, or for the boot (trunk) or, ALL, I tried messing with this setting, but same results. Trunk & driver door work correctly. Passenger's door is not functioning. If you know what to look for physically, I can go back to the body shop who painted the car and ask him to remove the door handle/panel and correct stuff, but this body shop owner is Dinosaur when it comes to technicalities like this. I took it to Volvo Service Center, it took him 2 minutes to quote me US$350 and he told me the door handle is not in stock anyways, but he wouldn't listen. Had he known there has been human intervention, he would have perhaps gave it deeper thought.
Hi, I have this issue on my 2003 xc90 T6. Do you ship to I had the exact same problem as some of the other described below. Bought a 2003 XC90 in Dusseldorf and when driving it back home to Budapest, after the first 300km this problem started happening. Cluster off, windows, sunroof, break lights, indicator, transmission gears playing up, radio off and many others. Engine and Breaks working. If I turned the engine off it worked for 10 minutes again then again died. I limped to the first Volvo service station (Hanau) where they told me the car is very broken and they gave me 2 pages of error codes. I called the dealer in Dusseldorf, no help there. Left the car in Hanau and came back to Budapest. Now with all this new info at hand I am thinking of flying back to Hanau to bring the car to Budapest. Do you think the pc fan will do the trick for the 1000Km ride as a temporary fix or I need to pay for a new CEM in Hanau from the Volvo dealership (probably very expensive). In Hungary the repairs would be much cheaper. Other alternative is to bring it back with a trailer. Do you ship to Hungary, if so how long will it take to get here and when is the cost. (my emil is thomas.papp.eu@gmail.com) Many Thanks for your help.
+Thomas Papp Hi Thomas! This definitely sounds like a failing CEM. If you can set up a cooling fan and direct the cool air towards the CEM, then this would allow you to drive much longer distances. I like your idea about the 300km rides with a 2 hour wait period. Please know that we do ship to Hungary! Please visit our website at xemodex.net/ww/product/central-electronic-module-program-transfer-for-volvo-vo-1070-30657629-00-22/ I chose your country for you and the repair service for your CEM. You will then get the final cost of everything before you go ahead and pay. Thank you!
Hi, I have 2003 XC90 T6, it experienced Volvo known sunroof water leaking issue second time last Nov, first time happenda few years ago. Now it has intermittent no start problem, starter and 4 1/2 years battery were replaced. The symptom is only dash light on, no cranking, no start, AC is off, headlight is on for 1 second, then off. Last time when I called AAA for towing (around 10 mins), I tried to start it again, it worked. If I use a cable to connect starter relay pin #30 & #87 directly (bypass ignition and CEM/ECM), I can start the car. It means problem happened between ignition, CEM and ECM, how to diagnosis it is CEM or ECM problem (I sas ECM is involved in start too)? Using hair dry for several mins to CEM can help (I saw it on your website)? Thanks

is the immobilizer for a 2002 V70 integrated in the CEM as well? I see the wire from the immobilizer antennae going into a white box underneath the steering wheel. I can't open the box. Let me know. Thanks

I was driving this morning with some light rain coming down when all of a sudden a message apeared on my dash (Brake failure stop safely) with the (ABS, engine management and anti skid symbols displaying). Thanks. This is very helpful. I've just had my CEM checked, a new processor installed and reprogrammed. All is well now. It helped considerably that I could remove the module myself and take it to a specialist. At £100 per hour labour it saved me a lot of money.

What was the symptoms

Спасибо большое за видео! Снимайте больше материала по xc90, пожалуйста!
Hi Darrin, I would love to know how you solved this problem - the symptoms are the same as I am having in my Volvo XC90.
Glad to help!
@@lildrgnz5133 I'm in the same boat with my 2004 S60. Did you ever get it fixed and if so, how? Was it a CEM issue?

Any hint?
What was the problem?
It's a common error if things with the CEM go wrong. You can clear it out with a VIDA and in my case it didn't come back.
Thanks for the reply. I figured it just needed to be cleared....but, where does a home garage repair dude get hold of VIDA?
My Volvo V40 , 2014 model is showing the Engine tcheck ...What can be the problem??
hi, is this a CEM Type-1 type2 or Type3?
How do i fix the problem of volvo s60 when is turning engen off when pressing the bricks

Excellent. Thanks for sharing! But did you do anything about sealing the leak where the water intruded originally?

Thanks for the informative video! I have a some questions.
1, what was wrong with the car in this video. (What electrical issues was it having before repair that made you pull Central Electric Module?)
2, the water intrusion, where did it come from? And did you address that issue? (I just rear the other comments and saw that you suspected it was from sunroof drain. Has thet car been back?
3, what kind of warranty do you give on this repair?
Thank you.

Hi FL Bill,
Central Electronic Module failures may cause a number of issues in the vehicle including intermittent communication failures and relay control failures.
Thank you!

I had similar issues. My problem was faulty ignition switch.
4 minutes of explaining how to disconnect the battery followed by "just pop the CEM out" I think if anyone is at this stage, they know not to have the battery connected when doing this kind of work.
i have v70 Volvo my signal light relay not working , can you show me we the relay which side of the dashboard
Where are you located

If I do this and maybe stop for 2 hours after every 300Km, could it fail so bad at some stage that the car will stop working?
I have a 2004 xc90 while driving I hear a click and like a reset then again the brake lights abs on the speedometer goes down and loss power. If a turn the ignition switch back and on it goes back to normal.

my fuse box cover in the engine shows list of fuses on the "upper side" and also "under side". any idea where is the "under side"? the list shows "ffm8 - radiator fan - 60 mA" (which stopped working that I'm trying to fix) 03 v70 2.4t
Hi Tomas. I spoke to our tech and he said that under the hood, Fuse #8 in the fuse box is for the cooling fan. He said there are no other fuses or relays in this circuit. He said you should review the electric cooling fan wiring diagram for more information.

Hey
I love your vid..

XeMODeX Inc I press reset yellow button
+myviews Were you able to fix the problem?
XeMODeX Inc had to do with yellow button
XeMODeX Inc But Volvo is such a touchy car not like Japanese
Can you tell me what the customer was having issues with that needed the CEM repaired?
Hi lrnelson72. It depends entirely on the symptoms that your car is experiencing. If you provide us with information about your vehicle we can help diagnose your problem. Generally, for these years/models the most common issues are related to heat when the CEM overheats. For our CEM remanufacturing service, we include a brand new heat sink to help dissipate the heat. We also get some units coming in with water damage from water intrusion.
XeMODeX Inc hi I have cc90 2006 I get massage 12v rear outlet in use and my door windows system doesn’t work also the radio can you help please
Thank you!
Thanks, I'll do that.
Hi by chance is the fuse for the brake light switch or tail lights there?
Santiago Gonzalez Hi! No, there is no fuse for the brake lights on the CEM (04 and down). The brake lights are fused on the REM (rear electronic module).
thank you so much for sharing it.
Hello XeMODeX,
Great video !
Best regards,
Alex
Thank you!
XeMODeX Inc , you replied to me through mail so it's perfect ! Thank you again :)

Thank you!
happened to my 03 v70 2.4t. dashboard has not worked for 4 years now
If i get a cem from another 2005 xc90 2.5t. Will it plug in and drive while i send my original in to be properly rebuilt by ya'll?
Hi Kevin. This method will not work. The CEM is specific to the VIN of your vehicle. You can send us your CEM for repair and select express shipping to minimize the downtime. Please contact us toll-free at 1-888-712-2525 or visit xemodex.com to see what options we have available for your vehicle.
Question: if you're just trying to remove the ecm, why do you have to remove all those shunts and fuses off the main board? Seems like extra work
elk80 Hi! This video is for a CEM removal. The ECM is located in the engine compartment. Thank you!
XeMODeX Inc i meant the cem. I see that you removed all those fuses/shunts. Is that necessary?
elk80 Yes it is. In order to remove the CEM. they have to be out.
Thanks
No additional codes. Interestingly, I drove for several hours in 90 degree weather with the floor AC on and had no problems.
CEM module?
Mark Ward Hi Mark, It sounds like a CEM issue, because your
codes indicate that you have issues in both high speed network and low speed network.
Do you have any specific CEM codes such as E000 and 1D07 ?
Please let us know so we can further assist
you.
Thank you!
so I need to replace the flasher unit on my cem, the left turn signal is bad. which one of these modules would it be?
thanks
Hi JAMCastillo1. I spoke to our tech and he said for most Volvo vehicles the signal flasher is part of the switch on the dashboard and is not part of the CEM. Are you experiencing any other issues with your vehicle? What is your year/model?
I tried the fuse #8 and that did not do anything, the fuse was good. I have appointment tomorrow at a shop , will let you know what they find out.
Hi Tomas. You can give us a call toll-free 1-888-712-2525 (US & Canada) or e-mail us at info@xemodex.com.
I have a 2005 Volvo xc70 passenger side not working has no power, can anyone tell me where headlight control module is located
Hi, I have this issue on my 2003 xc90 T6. Do you ship to
I had the exact same problem as some of the other described below.
You would then click "add to cart" and then click "proceed to check out." You must fill all your information including address to figure out the shipping price. You will then get the final cost of everything before you go ahead and pay. Thank you!
Can you do a video for the 2006 xc90?

Thanks

Great video but where is the immobilizer located in s60?
+thetruth Hi. For the S60 the immobilizer is part of the Central Electronic Module (CEM) itself.
+XeMODeX Inc is it easy access where is it located ? thanks
+thetruth I spoke to our tech and he said the immobilizer is integrated with the CEM. It cannot be removed separately from the CEM. Follow the steps in the video and remove the CEM from the vehicle first.
is the immobilizer for a 2002 V70 integrated in the CEM as well? I see the wire from the immobilizer antennae going into a white box underneath the steering wheel. I can't open the box. Let me know. Thanks

Did the C.E.M. have to be reprogrammed?
Hi Larry. The customer asked for a Program Transfer service, so no reprogramming was required. We transferred their original software to one of our remanufactured units. Our remanufactured units include a thermal cooling upgrade with new heat sinks, water proofing and a Lifetime Warranty.
