I can't explain it in Dutch, but, the Kaiser was a lucky chap being able to escape to Doorn. Unlike his unfortunate cousin Nicholas, who was put to the wall with his entire family, Wilhelm lived in a confined luxurious world in exile. I remember seeing a 1939 magazine article showing photos of Wilhelm having a champagne party surrounded by his closest family and friends.
