I have both and use them interchangeably for both long runs and intervals. I am an average 4:15 marathoner. Really nice to have both without having to choose :)
Thanks. A definite value of these two-shoe comparisons is that if a viewer already has one of them, then hearing how the other one resembles and differs from it will give a really vivid idea of what the other one's like.
Are you in the US? If you are, they are much more available. Charm City Run has a bunch you should be able to get online. If you’re not in the US…well now that our inventory is up maybe that will spread lol.
@Navanirunz unfortunately, no. I am in Singapore and I couldn't find any for sale in store, the reseller price is just too much that you might as well buy a race day shoe. Lol
I bought the ASICS few months ago and I’ve used them for everything (I’m not fast,y easy runs are around 6:00 to 6:30 per km) and I loved them. The easy runs feel very easy, I find myself going a bit faster than normal without more effort. Even for races, I found them good because of the weight. Even with tired legs, it doesn’t feel so bad
My pair of black Zoom Fly 6s arrived yesterday. The laces are too short for me since I like to use all the lace holes, so I replaced them with a longer pair of silver laces from a pair of Mizuno Rebula Cup football boots. Now I have better lockdown, and the colorway looks better.
Just checking the Nike website and the only colour way in my size are the ones with flames on them. I’m definitely not quick enough (or brave enough) to be seen wearing them!
FWIW I’ve had both shoes this year and far prefer the ZF6 for all use cases. The SB2 was stiffer than I expected, which some folk may enjoy but it’s not for me so I sold it on. The ZF6 feels comfortable and forgiving at easy paces, and when I hit my tempo/threshold paces I can feel the plate begin to engage for that more propulsive feel. It’s my shoe of the year
Ah no contest for me as only Nike do my UK 13 but good to hear may have got the better bet anyway. The ZF6 is certainly a shoe that has been a pleasant surprise and arguably my favourite pick up this year.
Always appreciate the sage advice of Tim. Tim these guys are busy and dont have time for profundity. So let me ask you a question. If you had to race a half marathon - what do u think would be the difference in time between the Fly 6 and the best of the best (your ranking) in time - i say this because I hold a Strava Record - Interestingly i set the initial record with the Nike Vapour Fly - but to my astonishment - it was not counted because the Satellite did something crazy. So i had another go in the last Adidas Boston with boost! I got the record still 5 days later 1 sec worse. In my head the VFly was miles faster. Being an avid consumer of these shoe reviews - i wonder how much of this perceived difference in speed is just so not statistically different! Good to see you are active following your UK Masters 5 KM and subsequent virus!
@@craigtsmith6957 I haven't done a shoeoff yet with the ZF6 but did use them for a "lumpy" parkrun about 6 weeks ago and a few interval sessions. I normally race in Vaporflys which in my size are a quite lot lighter - about 80g although does not "feel" such a difference. I think based on the parkruns might be about 15-20 secs slower in ZF6 in a parkrun so maybe in a HM could be about a minute. Not huge for sure.
@@craigtsmith6957 indeed. Just a guess of course but a minute over HM could be huge in some cases. One thing though is that the ZF6 is one of the few non out and out racing shoes I am now happy to use for interval sessions and don't feel am making things overly hard for myself.
I own both. And for the most part, I agree with your review. But for me…the SuperBlast 2 is the winner. I’m an average paced, heavier runner, who lands on my forefoot…and for me the SuperBlast 2 is more comfortable for both easy runs and long runs. The Nike has laces that are slightly slippery, which makes lockdown a little challenging. Pull them tight…and they release the tension as soon as you stop pulling. Gotta tie quickly. Because of this, I believe, I got a fat toe blister on a long run in the ZF6. The shoe loosened up during the run. Never had a blister in my SB2’s. Also, at slower paces, for me, the ZF6 felt flat and stiff. But when picking up the pace and at harder efforts, the ZF6’s midsole foam really shines. Stays fast, but somehow gets more comfortable and bouncy. The SuperBlast 2 is comfortable for me at all paces. Because of this, the SuperBlast 2, in my opinion is better at everything, over the ZF6, except fast workouts. The ZF6 feels like the SuperBlast 2 and the Endorphin Speed 4 had a baby. It is a great shoe that can do a lot.
having a plate or not would not determine the comparability for me, the point is more the flexibility/rigidity of the shoe. The foot won't care if there is a very flexible plate or just very rigid foam, the effect will be the same if they have similar flexibility. Granted, a non-plated low-stack shoe will typically be much more flexible than the usual plated shoes, but here we are talking about the very stiff Superblast. I very consciously use lower stack flexible shoes for parts of my training, but the plate or lack thereof plays no role if I choose between, say, a Superblast, Neo Vista, or Deviate Nitro.
Brilliant, succinct review. I’ll be getting both. Great to see Nike finally making great shoes, other than the brilliant AF and VF. Love both of those.
Superblast V2 is a great shoe, but I find it maxes out at half marathon pace. Faster than that it just seems like way too much shoe. It's sweet spot is the back half of a training block on 25km+ runs where you are injecting a significant amount of goal pace work. Otherwise, just use a different shoe and save the SB for the right day/workout. I was hoping the ZF V6 would perhaps serve as a replacement for the Tempo Next%, but I'm still on the fence since I have tons of KM left in my pairs. Hoping an actual Tempo Next% V2 is released before all my pairs of V1's get retired.
Great comparison! Any thoughts about them from a stability point of view? It seems that SB benefits from the very wide platform. Could be important for long run performance.
Often hear that argument “dont want to run in a plated shoe”, which I understand because it gives biomechanical advantages which you don’t want all the time. However, is a shoe like the superblast not providing exactly the same but in a technically different way (massive stack of superfoam) ?
@@Simo.PT. indeed but to accomplish the same toe-off effect it requires a massive stack. This makes the shoe heavier and more bulky so I’m questioning whether its design is not subpar actually…
@ its light for sure and but not lighter than the endorphin speed for example. Maybe a superblast with a lower stack and nylon plate might be even lighter than the endorphin speed;-)
Excellent review Nick, one that many were waiting to see. Would you pick Zoomfly 6 or the NB SC Trainer v3, if both of these two shoes were priced at $170?
Hello Nick! For my threshold and tempo runs that are about 3:40’ - 4:00’/km do you recommend more the superblast or the zoom fly? Im searching for one with good cushioning and no plate or a smooth plate! Thanks
My pair of ZF6 are on their way but if it helps you I'll say that I've been picking my Endorphin Speeds over the Superblast 2 for track workouts. It evens out a bit if I'm doing a longer distance and less consistent turns though.
Given that the Nike zoom fly has reached the maximum amount of foam cut out to reduce weight. Do you think that the v7 could be a full zoom x sole? Or will that not happen, as its too competitive with the vapor fly. Is zoom x comparatively heavier than ff turbo and lightstrike pro?
@@TheRunTesters If I tried to keep up with Nick these days so would I :) Indeed I see averaged 210 in a 400m race few years ago. Pootling along "easy" I would be mid to high 170s. MP (just sub 3) probably about 183. I think I have a "high" cadence at least relative to my height (1.95m).

ZF6 for me personally for similar reasons.
Superblast all day everyday ❤
I had to return the ZF6, it’s almost identical to my Endorphin Speed 4.

Another informative vid. Thank you. What is the definition of a high cadence runner? I average at about 172
Depends a lot on your pace for a given race distance and how much cadence increases as you get faster.
Like Tim says, it depends! I'm typically 200+ when running fast
