    Just an idea but I wonder what it would be like to add an overhead camera that gives you a closer look from a POV perspective. It might help with some close-ups when the other cameras can’t quite get a proper angle from behind. Just a thought!

    Nobody seems to talk about reliability anymore….the number of return units and repairs. For me I need to know that that if I spend this much on a machine I’m not having to send it back to the repair shop every 5 minutes, So how reliable are typeset machines, how much of them commercial high-end components are incorporated to make the machine bullet-proof ( at least from a consumer perspective) ?

    Great comparison I think Linea Mini is for me seeing each machine side by side since I have small kitchen. Mini has more analog feel and start timer plus it looks amazing and it’s slightly more compact with bigger reservoir

  • @gregoryscott3858
    @gregoryscott3858 3 года назад +19

    If the producer ever reads this, some humble production feedback: use the second cam for a meaningfully different perspective, rather than a slightly-to-the-left alt where the host's back still blocks everything they're doing. Up close, let's see those hands, that coffee. Main shot is way too wide, the machines are maybe 5% of the shot, that flat wall wall and the bottom of the counter and all those cups are just not important. Shoot the intro, then get both cameras into the action. Movement. Framing. Life!

    Correct me if I`m wrong. But the Prima has no T3 technology built in. It`s called NEO. They used new insulation materials, smaller boilers and heating elements in the group head. And that is why you don`t need a programmable on off setting. The machine is ready for espresso in about 10 minutes. And due to this technology the prima needs almost half the amount of energy compared to the Linea mini. This may be taken into account when you have to decide between these two machines.

    • @johnholmquist9277
      @johnholmquist9277 3 года назад +1

      Hi there! It is a different system than the T3 system, but still utilizes an actively heated group. I found that the machine needed a long purge if it sat for a while. Otherwise water coming from the brew group would "crackle", reminiscent of a heat exchanger machine. Combined with the small water tank and drip tray, I found myself refilling the water tank and emptying the reservoir frequently.

      @@johnholmquist9277 alright please explain my knowledge is limited when it comes to power. My belief was wattage=voltsxamps

    • @johnholmquist9277
      @johnholmquist9277 3 года назад

      @@blakeottomeyer2261 There are multiple heating elements inside the machine, on 110V power, it can't run all the elements simultaneously, so it has to be cycling between the different elements.
      The GS3 does a similar thing (to my understanding) if you run it in half power mode.

      Spot on. Comparisons like these are useless, unfortunately. Politely explaining that these are good quality machines. We all knew that much before these 18 minutes - yet these are very different machines, but little transpires about the relevant (or irrelevant ) differences. 10 years ago these would have probably been fine, but with things like Lelit Bianca and Decent "profiling" ever the horizon, a little more substance wouldn't have been wasted.

    For most people it will come down to the workflow and aestetics, as they differ greatly in these two machines.
    LM comes in an older, traditional and slightly outdated design, an acquired taste for many, while VA Prima has that slightly more contempirary look and shape. LM has however been on the market for some time now, while VA Prima is a 2yr old newcomer, riddled with issues and problems from the day dot, which hopefuly have been all addressed and fixed by now.
    As a nunerous e61 prosumer machines owner for the last 25 years, I lean more towards the VA, it is breath of fresh air for someone who wants to move on from the outdated and surpassed e61 machines and their tech.

    Have had a plumbed in 220 volt La Spaziale S1 for many years. Have compared shots from S1 and Linea Mini at coffee trade shows. If I were offered a free Linea Mini in exchange for the S1 I'd say no thank you. Would lose programmable volumetric dosing (can always stop manually) and would only decrease efficiency. IMO the only conceivable upgrade would be to a profiling capable machine but as of yet do not have the inclination to go down that road.

      The LM drip tray is actually easy to remove and empty. Also the tray itself doesn't cause a mess like it does on the E1.
