I really like how Heimdall slightly mirrored Baldur but still manage to be his own character. They are both cocky and overconfident with their godhood to the point of underestimating their opponent but Baldur is bitter and full of resentment while Heimdall is just....an asshole for lack of a better word. There could have very well been some form of rivalry between Heimdall and Baldur because while Atreus was in Asgard, Heimdall pointed out that Baldur has the luxury of invulnerability making it easier for him to tame beasts without caring if they would hurt him, while Heimdall has to actually tame them. Also another detail is when Kratos was about to kill Baldur, Baldur said Kratos could have walk away and leave him to kill Freya, Kratos didn't walk away; but with Heimdall, Kratos was sparing him, he did want to walk away, but Heimdall's ego was too fragile to let Kratos walk away hence he said "you think you get to just walk away?" It was interesting that these 2 scenes happens nearly at the end of each game and how the way they play out mirrors each other.
likely due to heimdalls ability making it really hard for him to lose so his asshole behavior was probably made over years of ego building up, oh well either way the fall made it hurt him all that much more
@@saunshilu damn I would really like it if the devs made Kratos rub it in for him even more, one thing about ego is: the bigger it is the more fragile it becomes, it is also remarkably amusing to watch it shatter
My thing with heimdall that I don’t understand is that he’s able to read people very well. Why doesn’t he see that Odin is no good? Like yea he’s a cocky asshole but he seems to care, he’s genuinely concerned about Atreus and his intentions. Why doesn’t he see that Odin is anything more than a tyrant who ordered one of his brothers to commit genocide and that Odin only cares about himself and is willing to sacrifice him and everyone else to get what he wants
I have a few ideas with some examples but will be a bit lengthy to explain, it is entirely my opinion so feel free to bring up your own, I would love to discuss about it. So meanwhile, do hear me out: I think the reason for Heimdall to not being able to see Odin for who he truly is, is because of their similarities in personal biases and truly twisted, warped sense of reality and self. We can see that Odin is a liar, and I believe that not only is he a liar but he believes in his own lies, and even believes in the lies he tells to himself about himself too. There was a particular conversation Atreus had with Mimir, when he asked Mimir about Odin's missing eye story being different to the one Mimir told before, and questioned why Odin would lie about such a personal thing when he really had no reason to do so. Mimir explained that the one thing about liars is... they lie, they lie about everything big or small regardless, just so they can assert their warped sense of view over reality, which to me suggests that Odin is a manipulative, delusional narcissist and a pathological liar. Odin has told so many lies to other people and to himself to the point that he can't tell which one is lies anymore, so he chosen to make them all truths to himself as part of his innate character, it doesn't matter if his logic is twisted or contradictory, as long as it benefit his agenda. Two small but effective examples to indicate his mindset very earlier on is when we first met Odin in Kratos and Atreus's house, Odin said "dying is what we Aesirs live for", he said that while trying his damndest in the entirety of the game avoiding death. Mimir even say in the same instance that if Odin tells you snow is white, he is lying; Odin's character is drenched in lies and deceit that every word coming out of his mouth is a lie. What solidified Odin being so convinced by his own twisted lies to me boils down to the tragic and short-lived existence of Thor. Thor is the epitome how deep Odin's lies goes, the amount of physical, mental and emotional abuse Thor suffered under Odin, devoid of any love, affection and empathy, reduce the powerful god of thunder to an empty, broken shell of a man. Everything a parent should never do, Odin has done to Thor, even as far as murdering him, his own son, in ice cold blood, for realizing and rejecting his lies and manipulation. Odin then absurdly blamed everyone else for him killing Thor with his own hands, as if he is forced to kill his own son with no other choice. He is so deeply convinced that whatever atrocities he committed is never his fault and that his conscience is pure, free of any wrong-doing, but as soon as the pawns in his selfish games saw him for who he truly is, he felt his authority challenged and his jig is up so he get rid of them with absolutely zero empathy. Another detail is the Aesir gods has some things in common across the board which Mimir has pointed out time and time again, is that they have a literally god complex and a warped sense of self, they think they are the superior race and better than everyone else, and every single one of them, aside from perhaps Týr, is selfish and has inflated egos which we can see quite clearly in the game. To the Aesirs, what they do or believe in is superior and without question, so the potential for overly grandiose perception of oneself or their self-inflated belief system is undoubtedly present; this is very consistent with Heimdall's character, how he see himself and the way he treats others. However that belief is eventually shattered and destroyed when we can see in the video that Kratos is able to land multiple hits on Heimdall as well as outsmart him in terms of combat (game mechanics), despite his gift of foresight, which to me suggests that Heimdall's foresight is not as great or as absolute as he "believe" or "think" it is, while also implies that the Aesir's ideology and self-inflated belief is purely based on exaggerated lies that Odin has fed to them and himself over millennia. When Atreus arrived in Asgard and Heimdall wanted to kill him, Odin himself even points out while talking to Atreus that Heimdall is very perceptive but he forgets to think, this small detail to me makes Heimdall a rather... shortsighted individual and easy for Odin to manipulate or persuade. Heimdall also becomes flustered and sloppy with more reckless and less strategic attacks during 2nd phase of the his boss fight, after Kratos stoically humiliated his foresight gimmick and shattered his warped perception of himself; he is unable to comprehend this newfound paradigm shift and responded with a now broken sense of identity, one full of denial, anger and confusion. I think Odin's flawed logic of truly believing in his own lies coupled with Heimdall's superiority/god complex is the reason why Heimdall is blind to Odin's true self. His vision or idea of Odin is warped due to their self-fed lies, while also feeding off of each other warped beliefs to benefit themselves, their agenda, their way of thinking, how they view the world. Odin's warped sense of reality managed to influence how Heimdall see the truth in a biased way, if not the same as Odin. It is like an echo chamber. Another snippet of detail to suggest why I think this is the case is because of the Norns. They explained that in ones journey to avoid or prevent fate, they inadvertently fulfilled its prophecy. For example: Freya's good motherly intention of preventing Baldur's death inadvertently caused him to die anyway. How I understand this particular detail in relation to the previous ideas I mentioned is because people, even gods, are flawed and failed to understand or interpret information objectively due to personal biases and beliefs. Their misconstrued understanding of information is resulted by their own biases, which can also be influenced by someone or something else in the process. These personal biases and influences warped their sense of reality, leading them to do/think in a biased way. For example: Freya believed she could save Baldur. Sindri believed he doesn't have to tell Brock what happened to him so it would protect him. Atreus believed Týr is the champion and the key to save all the realms. Kratos believed keeping Atreus close to him, will protect the boy from going to war. Mimir believed freeing the Lyngbakr will make things right. Thor believed his true nature is a mindless killer and he cannot change. Odin believed he can prevent Ragnarok and his death. Heimdall believed the Aesir is superior and the All-father to be infallible. Everything terrible that ever happened in the game is because of someone being so fixated on what they believed in, which in turn led them to down a path of destructive self-fulfilling prophecy because they cannot see beyond their own biases. I can go on and on but everyone believes in something/someone and to them that is the ultimate truth. I also use the term "Truth" here very loosely because everyone is inherently bias and that biasness is what is "Truth" to them. Which funnily enough, this whole explanation I just gave you is what I believe in and is in a way, true and bias to me. But I won't be an asshole and try and convince anyone of it, you are free to interpret it however you want or just jot it down as plot hole. Whatever answers that you see true is truly the answer for you. TLDR: Pretentiously bias explanation of Odin and Heimdall fucking their brains out in an echo chamber and everyone else watch with delight and joy, fulfilling Ragnarok's prophecy. Sorry if this is very long, if you do read it, hope you had some fun. Edit: lots of edits.
@@ginkyo I really enjoyed reading all that Ann and you are correct in your assessment I believe. Can you make a cinematic version of this fight? Somewhere inbetween Kratos making Heimdall look like a joke and Kratos almost completely struggling against him
I love how Kratos misses when he tries to grab the Gjallarhorn for the first time. You never see little slip ups in media like this. A character missing a grab, or making the wrong pronunciation when they try to say something, or just a little "whoops" here or there, or, hell, just sneezing or coughing for no reason. Too often, characters only mess up or show imperfection when it's plot relevant, but Kratos missing the horn? It meant nothing. It lasted for less than half a second and added nothing to the plot, yet it made him feel more alive and realistic than most other characters I've seen in media. I never thought I'd say this in a way that wasn't sarcastic, but the devs should be extremely proud of themselves for such a pointless detail.

It is like a bully in real life found his tricks are not going to piss off people and his best move in child fight easily overwhelmed by true skills, real training, numerous experience, more importantly the determination of protecting someone precious.
everyone wants to see the "God of War from Greece", Kratos keeps telling them that it's a bad idea -for them, they don't listen and keep annoying him, and then Kratos gives them a glimpse of what they unwillingly wanted and they freak the fu-k out. What part of "he destroyed the WHOLE Greek Pantheon" they don't get, i don't understand...
While I don't disagree with Kratos's choice to live and let live in most cases since arriving in Midgard, I can honestly say in this battle, Heimdall's death was well-deserved. Out of all the Aesir gods in the game, he is undoubtedly the most evil behind Odin. He's arrogant, fanatical, narcissistic, loathsome, abusive, degrading, and egotistical. He believes himself free of fault, believes his father's cause to the point of being deluded, and doesn't think twice about killing those he feels are beneath him (like Atreus). When outmatched by Kratos and Draupnir, he shows great cowardice after Kratos impales him and then out of pure pride and rage spits on his opponent's warnings and the chance to live, all because he can't deal with the fact someone defeated him and was willing to spare his life. His goal to kill Atreus as revenge for this loss then gets him killed because Kratos' strongest desire is to protect his son, and that's when the monster Kratos used to be rears its ugly head one final time... when Kratos realizes this, he feels remorse, but knew he had been left with no other choice. I don't doubt Faye would have done the same if she had lived.
Especially since he was facing the god killer of Olympus Kratos himself. But that idiot was still just so desperate to satisfy his fragile ego he through whatever common sense he had left (if he had any at all) to the wind and rushed arrogantly head on to death.
I saw this mentioned in another video about this fight: if you look closely, during the third exchange of punches, Kratos grabs Heimdall's arm to hold him in place.
Heimdall honestly is lucky this isn't GO2/GOW3 Kratos. That Kratos would have probably ripped Heimdall's teeth out and used the gold to sharpen his axe or something

There's been a few people already uploading No-Hit GMGOW Boss Fights that look epic and they've done it at a fast pace. I always find myself counting the hours till your next upload because in comparison you are easily the most stylish GoW player on all of YT.
If the previous game gave us 4 years of epic content *that got even better after you once stated you didn't know what else to do since you had alrwady done it all* (I mean just look at those random encounters, the lvl 1 videos, the trolls and travelers videos as well as the weapon specific videos!!), I can only imagine how much this game is going to give us from SmvR. I mean the possibilities with the spear alone are endless for someone with your combat creativity. I can't wait for you to do all the bosses cuz it is AFTER that and the hopeful release of NG+ that I espect you to hit the next level of insanity with these just like you did with the previous entry.
Keep it up my friend.
edit: and once you've fully experimented with all equipment and different builds?!!!🤯
look up game breaker god as well, him and SMVR had the best videos for 2018 Gow, and now there both doing it again, I watch there vids and get hyped to play GMGOW mode and then get clapped

Agreed even in the Devi May Cry series this dude a beast 😊
So meanwhile, do hear me out:
I think the reason for Heimdall to not being able to see Odin for who he truly is, is because of their similarities in personal biases and truly twisted, warped sense of reality and self.
For example:
Freya believed she could save Baldur.
Another simple explanation could be that Odin is able to prevent Heimdall’s ability from working on him because he’s Odin I guess lol but I prefer to think it’s probably more along the lines of what you explained
Seeing heimdall getting bullied by kratos is so fun considering what he did to Atreus.
And what he was planning on doing to him “after” the fight with Kratos.
(As if that worthless arrogant little shit was ever going to survive a fighting Kratos)
God of Bullies
Did Heimdall call Freya Queen mistletoe because he read her mind in Asgard and knew the way to break Baldur's curse was with mistletoe?
But rather than help him he watched him go mad from the spell? If so that makes his death even more satisfying
Thanks for the video
Probably was ordered by Odin to hide the truth to keep Baldur invulnerable despite the fact it drove him mad. Plus Heimdall is a colossal ass.

I've noticed it, and I was like "hmm.., interesting."
Heimdall: You.. actually hit me!

The double fist punch is so brutal it almost wraps back around to being funny, like jesus CHRIST Kratos
He’s right you know, Kratos doesn’t decide anyone’s fate anymore. Heimdall sealed his own fate, Kratos just sped it up.
Best part? The actual look of destitute fear in his eyes as he looked upon kratos when kratos was choking him to death. Kratos inspires a level of fear that even Thor & Odin put together lack.
Well, the spartan commander brutalized the cocky bridge guard of asgard.
I never even knew he caught the spear. You made this fight extremely satisfying. Keep up the vids.
He always catches the spear on the first phase of Kratos trying to do the math on fast he needs to be to beat Heimdall's precog abilities. After that, you have to bait him into kratos spears, so that he can keep doing the math.
"You actually hit me"
as he casually has a draupnir spear in his thigh
Excellent display of how most of us think very much inside the box with the impale the ground move and wait for him to walk into the detonation, versus trying to throw it at his feet or whatever.
Quality gow gameplay, per usual.

His arrogance was his undoing. Hes used to being in control and being able to see things. He wouldn't agree with letting someone else decide his fate
Oh man, I've been waiting for this, this fight fucked me for two days straight - Should do the Berserkers next, the King is ruthless
Kratos had no choice, when Heimdall said his going to kill Atreus, sealed his fate, he had to die.
It's good thing that Heimdall doesn't have any Golden Jordans. Otherwise, he would've had the Hermes Deluxe Special.

I'm very confused by Mimir in this section of the game. The group came to a agreement that Heimdall needs to die yet when Kratos is doing the deed he tells him "This isn't who you want to be", yeah no duh Mimir but you saw where sparing him left us. Kratos is completely justified.

It feels really good that despite Heimdall trash talked for entirely 9 minute, this little bully found his words useless against adulthood and Kratos just keeps beating the shit out of him without one word spoken, his fist is faster than that little bully brain and his body endures any punishment then payback. It is like a bully in real life found his tricks are not going to piss off people and his best move in child fight easily overwhelmed by true skills, real training, numerous experience, more importantly the determination of protecting someone precious.

ALWAYS CLEAN. You really play every battle with such neatness. Clean moves really bumps the badass meter. Hands down 🔥
