The version from Without a Net is my fav ruclips.net/video/lNWpECKL-Tg/видео.html I viewed the line talking a lot About less and less And forgetting the love be bring as being an expression of two people who just can't communicate anymore but are still fundamentally in love
First off ... you are so adorable!!! I am so glad that you have been tuned into the Dead. One thing you will probably get in your comment section is that you MUST see the live versions of these songs!! I attended over a hundred Dead shows back in the day. They mix so many styles of music!!! The lyrics are always so interesting. I love rap and hip hop, but the Dead kinda hits that in me!! Keep rockin babe!!
Jerry Garcia sings and writes the music. Robert Hunter writes the words. My understanding is the song relates to Jerry's friends trying to confront his heroine use. Jerry is Althea even though he's singing. This song was hunters way of talking to Jerry without confronting him which never worked. There are so many layers to Dead songs.
It was as though the song is about me and my reckless selfish ways of addiction, and being dishonest with my self, telling me I need to get my shit together before its to late because the time will come when I have to weigh those things
A bus came by and we got on, that's when it all began. Plenty of room for more. You need to see a live performance. Dead and Company is where most of the remaining members play. Highly Recommended. Go to a show. You'll never forget or regret. Namaste.
The Grateful Dead formed in 1965 in San Francisco. Members participated in Ken Kesey's acid trip in the bus Further. They were a top band during the Summer of Love in SF in 1967, but the band really started to roll in the 1970s. No band ever toured and performed more than the Dead. I personally saw 13 Dead concerts throughout the Southwest over the years. The band played blues, rock, country, reggae, acoustic, and metal (of sorts). This band is unique and difficult to categorize. Jerry Garcia died in 1995, but the band kept going and is now playing together as Dead and Company. That means it has been performing for 55 years. If there is one album that I would recommend to anyone interested in really hearing the Dead at their best, it would have to be Europe '72. These are lives shows performed at different cities throughout Europe. This album is a genuine classic.
Just to clarify, the band did not go on the cross country bus trip with the Pranksters. That was 1964 before they were a band. They did attend and play at most of the acid test parties. But they were not literally riding around in Further more than just some local thrill rides or the ride to hand out flyers at a Bay Area Beatles shows.
It's cool seeing a young person picking up on the Grateful Dead. The music has so many different flavors. Althea Is 1 of my favorite Dead songs,You need to listen to the live version of the song, there is so much more going on. When you listen to it crank it up and get up on your feet and dance around, It's good for your soul. This song has such a good groove to it, you can't help but move around.
Instead of and album, do a show (or a 2nd set). I recommend - Grateful Dead - Foxboro 7/2/89 (good sound, kick-ass set list and easily found). Get a flavor for the atmosphere they used to create (that California mellow you're catching with the trippy edge they're known for).
The song is basically Hamlet. The first and third and fourth verses, as well as the bridge, are allegory with Hamlet being loosely referenced. But the entire second verse recounts nuremous scenes directly from the play's script.
Love the opening breather. They totally look BeeGees GQ on this cover. Great review/reaction. “Reckoning(for the faithful)” is my album recommendation cause it’s yet acoustic. “Live without a net” for one of their most gelling electric eras (the Althea on that is one of my favs)
I highly recommend you search out the documentary Sunshine Daydream (I think the whole thing is now on RUclips now, but if not at least most of the songs are individually). This is a recording from Veneta, OR 8/27/72, my absolute favorite concert. The film transports you to a different, more peaceful and groovy time.
Ren,its cody, you gave me a heart for althea.thanks my new favorite band ,black pumas, check em out, youll love there vibe and there songs.the best ive heard in years.much love fron south west New Mexico.peace.
Althea has one of those classic Deadlines; "Thinking a lot about less and less And forgetting the love we bring" but Ren!!! If you want some real BeeGees vibe the GD has that too--- ruclips.net/video/6jmnASVqZMU/видео.html (the Dead are like a cosmic jukebox playing all Americana music. All. New Orleans (Aiko Aiko) Blues, Funk /Disco (like Shakedown linked here), Jugband [they cover a bunch of Gus Cannon and other Jug band tunes.. but make them mad mad mad like this classic jugband tune Viola Lee Blues ruclips.net/video/wKRs7XpHtLc/видео.html (buckle your seatbelt before you listen to this one!!) and of course that Etta James set ruclips.net/video/G_zKuqHzYks/видео.html You gotta see this one Ren you'll swear you never knew it could be this good!!!!
Hope you've been listening to some live dead since these vids. The dead was at their peak live in the late 80's in my opinion. The only live album release "live without a net" 89/90 just the best. Set 2. Jerry the man. Although this song in the 1st set.
You also gotta see the other lead singer. Bobby (who is now the leader of the Dead and Company band) Bobby and Jerry would trade off lead singing pretty much every second song. Here's some amazing Bobby Tunes; Let It Grow ruclips.net/video/hxUD2IX1UfM/видео.html Estimate Prophet ruclips.net/video/CR5iB3ITGIU/видео.html Bobby Bland's Lovelight ruclips.net/video/opjQyLyIi9Q/видео.html and his MASSIVE MASSIVE Playing in the Band ruclips.net/video/3vfRwxB249E/видео.html with regard to a whole album, please listen to A WHOLE SHOW. that's how you Grateful Dead!! May I suggest this one: ruclips.net/video/z_bXHbUqOd0/видео.html
So you wanna do an album reaction to The Grateful Dead? Give Live/Dead from 1969 a spin. Only 6 songs, 4 of them flow together as one piece of music. If you like what you've heard so far, this album is where the rubber meets the road.
@@wobblyjack9481 With her experience:Ripple, Casey Jones, Althea and one other, Live/Dead is a bit like tossing her into the deep end! Maybe "Skull & Roses" first?
Hartford Conn. if memory serves,,was one of the best versions,,,,forgive me l dont remember the date,,,,too many DEAD shows,,,if ya know what l mean ;)
Thanks! I'm glad this one is getting the views that it deserves! Aside from this probably being one of the Grateful Dead song that I enjoyed most, that lil comic routine of mine is worth hearing. Haha
You must search out Live Versions of all dead songs. no real deadhead listens to studio anything. It pains me to hear you review this. it really does and i will tell you i turned it off after 10 seconds because its a reaction to a studio version of an amazing song. Next one pick a live dead show and you will have tons more comments and subscribers
@@Lchristyhastings I've never been to a grateful Dead show I wasn't born yet, I guess I have to settle for dead&company when concerts are allowed again
All Dead should be listened to live. Thanks for checking out the Dead.
Unless Phil is singing lol
seriously man, studio dead is great but they are so much better live.
Except terrapin, only tune I prefer the studio recording to
Spoken like a true Deadhead
I love how you started dancing immediately! That’s what this music does! Goes right to the soul!!!
This is definitely one of the songs that id prefer live. Not that the studio version is bad in any way but the live versions can be magic
The version from Without a Net is my fav

Al Franken agrees!
Still a great cut
Somebresome , except half their songs don't have studio versions
100%
Your smile says it all. Love you and love your reactions to one of my all time favorite bands!!
One of those Dead tunes that the studio version was great too.
Honest to the point of recklessness. self centered, to the extreme ❤️💙

Jerry used to have a volume pedal that would take the emotions up and then crash it all down. Chills would go up and down your spine.
I hope you do more Grateful Dead reactions! I really enjoyed this one
I love that this in 4/20. This is always a great song for a session.
Thanks for playing the Dead. There was nothing like a Grateful Dead concert! ❤️
Loved those sounds of nature; wonderful escape from urban dissonance.
Got to do "eyes of the world" with Bradford Marsalis in 1990...some of the best!
Instead of and album, do a show (or a 2nd set). I recommend - Grateful Dead - Foxboro 7/2/89
(good sound, kick-ass set list and easily found). Get a flavor for the atmosphere they used to create (that California mellow you're catching with the trippy edge they're known for).
Beyond a doubt my favorite GD song ever. I was always psyched to get it.
The song is basically Hamlet. The first and third and fourth verses, as well as the bridge, are allegory with Hamlet being loosely referenced. But the entire second verse recounts nuremous scenes directly from the play's script.
Would you elaborate on that? Don't have the resource to research right now, but I've never heard that and it's interesting.
That's interesting! I oughta look into that. I've heard of Hamlet, but I couldn't give you any insight into what it is about.
I think you would appreciate
Jerry garcia let it rock 1982
Catfish Jon at South Fallsburg, or really anything from that show!
You want to hear some wilder Dead, do the Live Dead album. It's early, more energy, trips to the max!
Lyrics via Robert Hunter.
This sounds so much like my neighborhood that it's trippy. I'm out here in SE Houston.
I loved that moment of silence. I needed it. Thanks! Love the Dead! Thanks for the content!
Always Live, Always Dead.
Hahaha, you're awesome. That rooster is sayin' put the needle on the record.
It's been said that the character Althea in this song was a reference to heroin - it's the story of Jerry's addiction.
Love the opening breather. They totally look BeeGees GQ on this cover. Great review/reaction. “Reckoning(for the faithful)” is my album recommendation cause it’s yet acoustic. “Live without a net” for one of their most gelling electric eras (the Althea on that is one of my favs)
