The first Flamestrike was from a Hot Streak (which gave me a Heating Up). The second was me hardcasting Flamestrike to consume Sun King's Blessing which turned my Heating Up into a Hot Streak and let me instant cast the third Flamestrike. Hope that made sense!
hey there first up great guide. i seem to net be aible to get the double flamestrike in the aoe opener. fs->pf->meteor->Scorch-+cb->fs->fs. im trying to do this as fast as possible but not seeing it happen. is this more like a precise then an asap timing?
I dont understand why im so far from other fire mage DPS. While i may not have the perfect rotation, its still pretty close to what im doing. Im 428 and only do 40-50k DPS on ST and like 110k on a 5 mob pack. I sim at 92k on ST

I never liked flamestrike, it was so much more fun imo when you could just do the ST rotation in all situations for ignite damage. Flamestrike contributing to hot streak is pretty neat though.

Outside of Combustion you should only be using Scorch during execute for crits and to maintain Improved Scorch buff. Fireball should be your filler spell to fish for crits since it gains 10% crit chance each time it doesn't crit (and it also reduces Combustion CD).
It would be the same as the ST rotation except you don't have Firestarter talented, so you just skip the opener and enter Combustion as usual similar to how I do so at 11:02.

We take Living Bomb just to grab the other talents in front of it, but we never actually end up casting Living Bomb in the rotation as it's a DPS loss. Pretty unintuitive, but that's just how things math out at the moment. As for Firefall you don't really play around, just do the rotation as you normally would and treat it entirely as a passive.

Great guide I really like the visual help, it make the rotation very easy to understand. I only have 1 question: How does the ST rotation change with the AOE talents (m+ boss scenario) because the AOE build doesn't have firestarter and crits don't happen every gcd or I'm missing something. thanks for the guide btw.
For the M+ build (or any boss that you gain no value from Firestarter on) you pretty much just pop Combustion instantly and start doing the rotation like normal, similar to how I pop Combustion at 11:02. This is also what you'd do if a boss gets below 90% health before you reach 8 stacks of SKB in the opener. Also if you're on a raid fight where you gain no value from Firestarter you can replace it with either Meteor or Controlled Destruction. so basic combo ist heating up--> scorch with combustion--> mid scorch cast you press fireblast--> pyroblast? but when i try this i dont get a 2. hot streak o.O
The only issue I see is you may not be spellqueing your Pyroblast at the end of your Scorch. When Scorch is ~70% of the way through the cast you want to be spamming Pyroblast so that it gets sent out immediately when Scorch ends. What makes the combo work is that Scorch and Pyroblast will both crit giving you the second Pyroblast.
@@PhosphorosWoW i am. I already tryed the "hold spell for queue" function. It still only works maybe every 3. Try But does it matter? I mean after pressing pyroblast i get gcd anyway, so i just use fireblast in the gcd after scorch/pyroblast and it has the same effect, right?
Haste/Vers are our best stats but at the end of the day it's best to sim your specific character in Top Gear on Raidbots when making gearing decisions.

i have a problem with SKB window whithout a heating up proc. cant seem to fit in the last scorch-Pyroblast combo within the window.. What am i doing wrong?
Fireball has a lower cast time and each time it fails to crit you gain 10% crit chance on the next one due to the Pyrotechnics talent. Fireball crits also lower Combustion cdr by 1 second due to the Kindling talent. Those 3 things combined cause it to sim better than if you were just hardcasting Flamestrike instead.
If sun kings becomes available to use when my current combust has like 4 or less seconds left, should I hard cast pyroblast immediately or wait for that current combust to end? it kind of feels like youre wasting combust time by hardcasting right away
General rule is you always want to hardcast SKB as soon as you get it even in Combustion. There is a small window where you can get SKB in the last ~3 seconds of Combustion where you can start the cast and it won't finish by the time Combustion wears off. During that very small specific window yes it would be a minor DPS increase to finish Combustion and then cast SKB, but it also puts you in a bad position for your SKB immediately after as you'll have less Fireblast/PF charges. Also any crits you're getting from that combustion aren't contributing to another SKB anyway so they have less value. Realistically you just want to hardcast SKB as soon as you get it.
been playing a mage since tbc, I come in and out Im during each expansion and do a little mythic raiding then quit and wait for the next expansion I must say…our rotations are def getting more and more complex
To make it more simple you can just Phoenix Flames into a Fire Blast as the mobs are getting grouped up, this will give you a Hot Streak to start. When you're ready to burn, cast Meteor into Scorch. Mid Scorch cast Combustion and start spamming Flamestrike. This will do a couple things: 1. Your Meteor will land during Combustion 2. You'll consume your current Hot Streak with Flamestrike and get another Flamestrike immediately since your Scorch and Flamestrike will both crit. So this opener would look like: PF > IB > Meteor > Scorch + Combustion > Flamestrike > Flamestrike Hope that helped if you have any other questions let me know!

I would love to see a break down of single target guide without firestarter (For m+ boss fights) with 0 skb stacks because we’ve all watched our skb fall off waiting on the tank to pull. Also where exactly does meteor fall into the combustion rotation, I feel like I’m coming out of my skb windows with one less stack.
In M+ or fights where you don't talent Firestarter you pretty much do the rotation as usual except you skip the opener rotation. You'd pop Combustion as soon as it's up similar to how I pop it at 11:02. As for Meteor, you just use it anytime it'll land during Combustion.

It mostly depends on the raid fight and difficulty. Some fights you won't get as much value from it or have more AoE so it's better to spec into other talents. When not playing with Firestarter you skip the opener rotation completely and just enter Combustion immediately, similar to how I enter it at 11:02.
I don't understand the double pyro combo with 6 stack of SKB - since you need to be in combustion to be able to double pyro - how can you do that to do from 6SKD to 8SKD if you're not in combustion?
Firestarter makes your Fireball and Pyroblast guarenteed to crit when your target is above 90% hp, so you can do the double pyro combo outside of Combustion in the opener with that talent

Does anyone know the purpose for the double pyro trick? Why is it better than just fireblast pyro fireball pyro? Its the same amount of time spent and charges used no? I guess if combustion is about to end the double pyro combo might squeeze in the extra crit in time but is there another reason it is better?
If you do the cast sequence you listed you'll have to wait for Fireball to travel and hit the target before you can Pyroblast whereas if you do Fireball + Fireblast for Hot Streak > Pyroblast, your Pyroblast and Fireball are both traveling during Pyroblasts GCD so you can immediately Pyroblast again on the next GCD since they will both crit. The other purpose for the combo is that it saves you a Fire Blast charge since you're using Scorch/Fireball for a crit instead of Fire Blast.

This is on training dummies. World latency: 41 Also distance from target doesn't seem to make a difference. Do you also have this issue? Scorch seems pretty unreliable Edit: my spell queue window was set to 120 for some reason. Set it to default (400) and everything is working as intended!

@Phosphoros Hey there awesome guide! Question at 13:33 you are fitting two flamestrikes in a row on the aoe opener (after combustion), i can see that work with a fireball, but with a scorch i can't make it work since it's instant. Do i need alot of haste for that, or am i missing something?
The double instant Flamestrike works on all spells that have a travel time (Fireball/Pyro and Scorch aswell!). With a Hot Streak proc and Combustion rolling you can Scorch > Flamestrike > Flamestrike since the first Flamestrike and Scorch both crit, giving you a second Hot Streak. It should work even at low levels of Haste (I tried and got it to work with as low at 17% Haste) you just need to make sure Flamestrike is spellqueued at the end of your Scorch cast. So pretty much while you're casting Scorch near the last 30% of the cast just spam Flamestrike as fast as possible.
Hello, as someone new to mage, I was wondering, why is Living bomb in the Single target build? I always thought that was an AoE skill and you do not make use of it during your rotation demo?
I jst finished leveling a fire mage and on low keys the dps feels not great, especially in AOE, do I need to be switching between the AOE build and ST throughout the dungeon? Thanks for the video this is going to help for sure, didn't even know about the "combos"!
For mythic+ you can just use the AoE build all the time, no need to switch throughout the dungeon. For ST with the AoE build you just skip the opener part of the rotation (as that part is only important if you have the Firestarter talent, which is only taken in the ST build) and just pop Combustion whenever it's up, similar to how I pop it at 11:02.
Hello, sorry a quick question regarding the ST rotation, I noticed you mentioned that at the start you cast Pyro then a Phoenix Flame, then you alternative between Pyro and Fireblast, how does this vary if it's a M+ dungeon ST fight and not a raid boss, a dungeon boss will drop below 90% a lot faster than you can generate 8 hotstreaks if everyone is pumping with CDs
If your target drops below 90% before you reach SKB or you don't run Firestarter, you just enter Combustion like normal similar to how I do it at 11:02.

The double Pyro combo allows you to get 2 stacks of Sun King's Blessing with 1 cast of Fire Blast. You get a stack of SKB by consuming a Hot Streak. When you're in Combustion and have a heating up proc you can cast Fireball/Scorch and during that cast use a Fireblast to turn your heating up into a Hot Streak. From here you start spam clicking Pyroblast so that when your Fireball/Scorch cast completes you send your Pyroblast immediately as well. The Pyroblast you sent will consume your Hot Streak and then the Fireball/Scorch and Pyroblast will both crit, granting you a second Hot Streak which will give you a second SKB stack. Hope this helped if you still have any questions let me know.

I thought you mean scroch and was like "wtf, how should I cast pyro while scroch". Now it makes sense and I just trained it for a bit and think I'm getting the hang of it. Though, I just did a m+ as frost and don't think it's far behind in damage (low keys) and much more forgiving :) Nonetheless the buton smashing as fire is somewhat unique and worth a try for sure.
If you aren't using Firestarter the rotation would be exactly the same except you would ignore the opener rotation since you won't have guarenteed crits above 90% to help build SKB. You'd pretty much just pop Combustion on pull similar to how I pop it at 11:02.

@@kettya5274 It prevents you from hardcasting pyroblast during combustion. Which can happen quite often when you have extreme amounts of haste which you should with double timewarp, PI, etc.

How did you made all your spells at the start crit? To make that pyroblast instacast with hotstreak.I mean like Pyro-fireblast-pyro-fireblast
It's the Firestarter talent. It allows Fireball and Pyroblast to be guaranteed crits when your target is above 90% HP.

so basic combo ist heating up--> scorch with combustion--> mid scorch cast you press fireblast--> pyroblast?
but when i try this i dont get a 2. hot streak o.O
The only issue I see is you may not be spellqueing your Pyroblast at the end of your Scorch. When Scorch is ~70% of the way through the cast you want to be spamming Pyroblast so that it gets sent out immediately when Scorch ends. What makes the combo work is that Scorch and Pyroblast will both crit giving you the second Pyroblast.

But does it matter? I mean after pressing pyroblast i get gcd anyway, so i just use fireblast in the gcd after scorch/pyroblast and it has the same effect, right?

Haste/Vers are our best stats but at the end of the day it's best to sim your specific character in Top Gear on Raidbots when making gearing decisions.

i have a problem with SKB window whithout a heating up proc. cant seem to fit in the last scorch-Pyroblast combo within the window.. What am i doing wrong?
You probably need a bit more Haste in your build. I'm currently running with 37% Haste.
I attempted it at 27% Haste and just barely fit it in.
Question here, you have the talent of living bomb but you are not playing it?
Yep we pick Living Bomb in order to get the talents in front of it but we never actually cast it as it's a DPS loss.

Hey, outside of Combustion, when trying to fishinp up for a heating up , why doing it with fireball and not flamestrike?
Fireball has a lower cast time and each time it fails to crit you gain 10% crit chance on the next one due to the Pyrotechnics talent. Fireball crits also lower Combustion cdr by 1 second due to the Kindling talent.
Those 3 things combined cause it to sim better than if you were just hardcasting Flamestrike instead.

If sun kings becomes available to use when my current combust has like 4 or less seconds left, should I hard cast pyroblast immediately or wait for that current combust to end? it kind of feels like youre wasting combust time by hardcasting right away
General rule is you always want to hardcast SKB as soon as you get it even in Combustion.
There is a small window where you can get SKB in the last ~3 seconds of Combustion where you can start the cast and it won't finish by the time Combustion wears off. During that very small specific window yes it would be a minor DPS increase to finish Combustion and then cast SKB, but it also puts you in a bad position for your SKB immediately after as you'll have less Fireblast/PF charges. Also any crits you're getting from that combustion aren't contributing to another SKB anyway so they have less value.
Realistically you just want to hardcast SKB as soon as you get it.

To make it more simple you can just Phoenix Flames into a Fire Blast as the mobs are getting grouped up, this will give you a Hot Streak to start. When you're ready to burn, cast Meteor into Scorch. Mid Scorch cast Combustion and start spamming Flamestrike.
This will do a couple things:
1. Your Meteor will land during Combustion
2. You'll consume your current Hot Streak with Flamestrike and get another Flamestrike immediately since your Scorch and Flamestrike will both crit.
So this opener would look like:
PF > IB > Meteor > Scorch + Combustion > Flamestrike > Flamestrike

I would love to see a break down of single target guide without firestarter (For m+ boss fights) with 0 skb stacks because we’ve all watched our skb fall off waiting on the tank to pull.
Also where exactly does meteor fall into the combustion rotation, I feel like I’m coming out of my skb windows with one less stack.
In M+ or fights where you don't talent Firestarter you pretty much do the rotation as usual except you skip the opener rotation. You'd pop Combustion as soon as it's up similar to how I pop it at 11:02.
As for Meteor, you just use it anytime it'll land during Combustion.

It mostly depends on the raid fight and difficulty. Some fights you won't get as much value from it or have more AoE so it's better to spec into other talents. When not playing with Firestarter you skip the opener rotation completely and just enter Combustion immediately, similar to how I enter it at 11:02.

I don't understand the double pyro combo with 6 stack of SKB - since you need to be in combustion to be able to double pyro - how can you do that to do from 6SKD to 8SKD if you're not in combustion?
Firestarter makes your Fireball and Pyroblast guarenteed to crit when your target is above 90% hp, so you can do the double pyro combo outside of Combustion in the opener with that talent

Does anyone know the purpose for the double pyro trick? Why is it better than just fireblast pyro fireball pyro? Its the same amount of time spent and charges used no? I guess if combustion is about to end the double pyro combo might squeeze in the extra crit in time but is there another reason it is better?
If you do the cast sequence you listed you'll have to wait for Fireball to travel and hit the target before you can Pyroblast whereas if you do Fireball + Fireblast for Hot Streak > Pyroblast, your Pyroblast and Fireball are both traveling during Pyroblasts GCD so you can immediately Pyroblast again on the next GCD since they will both crit.
The other purpose for the combo is that it saves you a Fire Blast charge since you're using Scorch/Fireball for a crit instead of Fire Blast.

@Phosphoros Hey there awesome guide! Question at 13:33 you are fitting two flamestrikes in a row on the aoe opener (after combustion), i can see that work with a fireball, but with a scorch i can't make it work since it's instant. Do i need alot of haste for that, or am i missing something?
The double instant Flamestrike works on all spells that have a travel time (Fireball/Pyro and Scorch aswell!). With a Hot Streak proc and Combustion rolling you can Scorch > Flamestrike > Flamestrike since the first Flamestrike and Scorch both crit, giving you a second Hot Streak.
It should work even at low levels of Haste (I tried and got it to work with as low at 17% Haste) you just need to make sure Flamestrike is spellqueued at the end of your Scorch cast. So pretty much while you're casting Scorch near the last 30% of the cast just spam Flamestrike as fast as possible.

Hello, as someone new to mage, I was wondering, why is Living bomb in the Single target build? I always thought that was an AoE skill and you do not make use of it during your rotation demo?
I jst finished leveling a fire mage and on low keys the dps feels not great, especially in AOE, do I need to be switching between the AOE build and ST throughout the dungeon?

For mythic+ you can just use the AoE build all the time, no need to switch throughout the dungeon.
For ST with the AoE build you just skip the opener part of the rotation (as that part is only important if you have the Firestarter talent, which is only taken in the ST build) and just pop Combustion whenever it's up, similar to how I pop it at 11:02.

Hello, sorry a quick question regarding the ST rotation, I noticed you mentioned that at the start you cast Pyro then a Phoenix Flame, then you alternative between Pyro and Fireblast, how does this vary if it's a M+ dungeon ST fight and not a raid boss, a dungeon boss will drop below 90% a lot faster than you can generate 8 hotstreaks if everyone is pumping with CDs
If your target drops below 90% before you reach SKB or you don't run Firestarter, you just enter Combustion like normal similar to how I do it at 11:02.
I tried fire mage but I just can’t get used to it #meleelife but I do enjoy frost mage!

I seem to be too dumb to understand the double pyro combo at 6 stacks. Anyone can break this down for me?
The double Pyro combo allows you to get 2 stacks of Sun King's Blessing with 1 cast of Fire Blast. You get a stack of SKB by consuming a Hot Streak.
When you're in Combustion and have a heating up proc you can cast Fireball/Scorch and during that cast use a Fireblast to turn your heating up into a Hot Streak. From here you start spam clicking Pyroblast so that when your Fireball/Scorch cast completes you send your Pyroblast immediately as well.
The Pyroblast you sent will consume your Hot Streak and then the Fireball/Scorch and Pyroblast will both crit, granting you a second Hot Streak which will give you a second SKB stack.

I thought you mean scroch and was like "wtf, how should I cast pyro while scroch". Now it makes sense and I just trained it for a bit and think I'm getting the hang of it.
Though, I just did a m+ as frost and don't think it's far behind in damage (low keys) and much more forgiving :) Nonetheless the buton smashing as fire is somewhat unique and worth a try for sure.

If you aren't using Firestarter the rotation would be exactly the same except you would ignore the opener rotation since you won't have guarenteed crits above 90% to help build SKB.
You'd pretty much just pop Combustion on pull similar to how I pop it at 11:02.

That's a cast @cursor macro, you can do it for every ground targeted spell, when you press the ability key it automatically casts where your cursor is, so you don't have to place it. for Flamestrike it would look like this:
