That's a good idea, but many times a broken compression release acts the same way even if the starter and solenoid are good. I got luck with the process of elimination.
@@oviduran You can check compression release by removing air filter and stuffing a rag in air intake momenrteraly until it starts and quickly removing rag once it starts. I started a tractor like that for years because sometimes it is not worth the repair.

Why didn't you try jumping directly to starter, it would have told you starter was bad and solonoid is good.
