I love how we are so used to effects that get cards from deck saying "except [this card]" that some of us assume it exists even when it's absent from the effect. (edit - typo)
I don't think Halq is really _necessary_ for the deck, but it was really nice for getting names into rotation and setting up a Shooting Riser (or sometimes Quandax).
I think that Crystron Halq will come back to 1 on the next OCG banlist with an errata because the support suspiciously does not say that you can only summon synchro machine monsters but only locked in machine monsters.
Some people will say that "ruins the card", those people are wrong. His name could be Exodia Halqifibrax and nothing would change, so making him an ACTUAL Crystron card is more than justified. Either make him require a crystron tuner as material or change its effect to summon crystron tuners from deck. If you want a card that does what Halq does, print a generic non-archetypal monster, then ban that thing so y'all can be happy
@@juksleo6257 There's no reason for them not to just make a new Crystron link 2 though, what is the point of errata-ing Halq and effectively removing a card from the game instead of making a new version? It's not like getting Halq even makes Crystron meta, so if they wanted to, they could make an even stronger card than Halq that's locked into Crystrons, and leave Halq banned. And its actually good, you can get away with running a smaller crystron package because every runick card discards, so any runick spell + smiger = full crystron combo. @@jaredricci9278So the gist is that it works quite similar to what Naturia runick did in that you get big value of discarding from Hugin, though unlike Naturia runick you have a lot more discard targets that make you go plus 1 or more. Tristalos is really funny because it can quick synchro if your opponent activates any card or effect so you normal tristalos before committing to any of your runick plays, they try to stop hugin they'll cause you to go into full crystron combo unless they have a second handtrap to deal with tristalos, but even then you can still combo because you go into quandax with hugin and tristalos and then tristalos's ridiculous gy effect that lets you summon 2 crystrons from deck by popping a synchro monster comes into play. Some do say that crystron doesn't have enough in-engine draw cards but they haven't taken into consideration that they can go into cards like Centur-ion Legatia or Crocosaw on the opponent's turn fairly easily or they can summon Diabell on the opponents turn using a synchro tuner to get a runick spell back from GY.

Kitedrake is a machine synchro but requires a wind tuner. Shame that it's so specific because it's a black rose that survives or a DRNM that can hit backrow

ive played crystons since they came out, the lack of machine synchros are WILD. the ones we do have are like Genex locked, SHS are wonky (except stealth ninja), gotta play main deck karakuri/F.A. cards (except dragster), or just beatsticks that are meh to use outside of their archetype (tech genus). ive been having fun playing them with icejade recently tho...
Dawn Dragster, Quariongandrix and Navy Dragon mech can do the job on the machine side and quandax and/or accel can just cheat around the machine restriction to make up for it.
The trap doesn't block evenly by itself but it makes Droplets + Evenly useless you just chain the trap and then go into Dawn Dragster (assuming you have two crystron tuners/synchro tuners or Accel Synchron on field).
