- We went to Rivernook Campground in Kernville, CA over Memorial Day and it might just be our new favorite campground! We haven’t been everywhere, but so far this is one of the best campgrounds in California! If you are looking to do some camping in Southern California, you will definitely want to check this place out.
The spots are very deep and you will have no problem no matter how big your rig is-lots of large 5th wheels and Class As around. They also have a good amount of living space and we didn’t feel as packed in as we have at many of the other RV Resorts.
The best of all is that can back right up for some camping on the Kern River, which was swift flowing when we were there, or if you are camping with kids you can get a spot right on the creek. That was a lot of fun and the kids had a blast playing and splashing around on the hot days and mama bear didn’t need to have a panic attack from them getting swept away in the main river.
The spots along the creek and the river were partial hookup, but they have a very convenient dump station with plenty of room to maneuver. They do have some full hookup spots, they just aren’t the ones by the creek or the river.
They had all of the usual stuff that you would expect including a decent store, bathrooms, a fish cleaning station (and lots of good fishing along the bank), grassy park areas, volleyball, horse shoes, etc. They also had a bunch of cool looking trails, so bring your golf cart to cruise around the camp. The Kern River is obviously a mecca for whitewater rafting-we saw launch points the whole way up and there were a ton of rafters floating by all day over the weekend. This would be a great place to set up shop if you’re in the area for that.
It did rain one day, so we went into town to check out Kernville and it was a cute little town. We got pizza at the local pizza place to bring back for dinner and stopped and had a few adult beverages at the Kern River Brewing Company. Good food and a lot of different beers.
Overall, we really liked this place and will definitely try to get back there at least a few times a year. We’ve really been shipping Sequoia RV Ranch, but this one might have just slid into our DMs! We made some of the best memories in our Rockwood 2706ws yet and had a ton of fun, and that’s #WhyWeWork!
See you on the next adventure!

Have you guys been? Any campgrounds that you think top this one that we need to give a shot?? Curious to hear your favorites in the comments below!
I grew up at Rivernook! My grandparents lived there in the upper campground, they even managed it for a bit. It was a wonderful place to explore and I was very fortunate to be there so much. Sooo many memories flooding back! I miss my grandparents 🥺 Thanks for this video!
Did I just read "why we work'? Love this already. God bless America. This IS why we love this place. 🕺
Great video of clean family fun. Thanks for sharing.
Great video!! I live near Long Beach so this is definitely on my list. Thanks for the recommendation and I definitely have subscribed to your channel.
Twin Lakes in Bridgeport, CA is great for dry camping, nature trails, fishing and family fun. Bears, deer and chipmunks!

Beautiful location! I love how you guys still went out even though there was rain in the forecast, we do the same thing! Like you said, a day out camping is better than any day sitting inside! We've been wanting to head up that way to check it out, so i'll be sure to check out this campground. How far in advance did you have to make your reservations?
Right?! We booked it about 5 months out, but I heard it’s getting harder to book lately. Hope you get to try it out-it’s a lot of fun! Thanks for watching and leaving us a comment!
Nice video! Do they have showers? We’re planning to go and tent camp. Thanks

Nice review!
Thanks so much for watching!
Just heard about this place. How is the drive? Big hills?
We've been camping at rivernook for over 12 year. We love it. Staff is super friendly. Fyi..pizza places also deliver to your campground.
Awesome, thank you for the tip!! We’re ordering in next time!! But seriously, that is such a fun place! Thx for watching!!
@@WhyWeWork HOw far is this from Santa Barbara? is this a good place for a single camper to go to? Thanks
Mmmmm Pizza barn! The whitewater pizza!
here now lol 👍👍
What area of the park had a good creek section that's close to the main river...I want to take my kids
Hi, what campsite did you stay at? Thank you
Beautiful campground! But for me, it is just too close to other campers. Only a few feet separate each campground. I am looking into buying an RV next year but afraid I will not have the privacy I have when tent camping. Is all RV camping that congested or are there parks in Calif. with more privacy?
There are definitely a lot of spots with privacy, but private campgrounds tend to be pretty packed in. State parks are nice but they can be hard to book. Your best best is boondocking if you really want solitude!
Cool review will definitely check this place, any recommendations on which site to reserve? We got RV and Love the spot you got just behind the creek do u still remember what’s your site there?
I totally don’t remember the spot number but if you go in that same raccoon loop or whatever that we did, all the sites are pretty good!!
We have quite a few that are easily that good and some that are much better. I’m gonna head to a free one this weekend.
That’s awesome! We would love some tips since we’re planning for Oregon and Washington one day!
You should. You’ll love it. We mostly camp in Washington but there are lots of places in Oregon too. Depends on what type of camping you want to do. We prefer camping next to lakes or rivers. But we’ve also boondocked up in the snow near a few ski resorts. If you head up this way let me know and I’d love to help out. If things work out we hope to do some “free” camping this weekend and it’ll be on my channel soon. Take care
I like mellow music!
what are the temperatures like there?
Any offroad parks close by?
What site did u book?
Shaver Lake, Camp Edison is great campground.
Thank you-we’ve heard that too. Definitely going to try to get out there ASAP. Appreciate you giving us that tip!!
We are really excited. Leave for another week there on Wednesday!!
Question, is there any spots around there to go swimming? Doubt anyones going in that river with that current.
We actually floated down the river on that section right there by the campground, but it’s definitely called the Killer Kern for a reason!
How was the drive? I'm in your neck of the woods and I'd love to check this place out!
It was a little bit windey on the last leg, but nothing too difficult to navigate. Plus, you're driving right next to the river, so we just took it slow and enjoyed the views. Piece of cake! You'll really enjoy it!
what year is yer Ferd?
👍👍
Tent camping $45 Dry Camping $60 Partial Hookup $65 Full hookups $75 all with a 4-night MINIMUM stay
ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? Good Grief
The prices for campgrounds are getting crazy! We recently upgraded our batteries to do more boondocking!
Y'all need to do Lake Shasta :)
Ya, there's a lot on our list that we still need to try. We camped at shasta a few years ago--can't remember if we had the popup yet, or if it was just tent. Was a lot of fun!
How much does it cost to Tent Camp?
Never mind, I heard the daily cost of Tent Camping and it is too expensive for my Budget.
Are you members of the mini lite club?
Were in the Rockwood rv club, but I don’t think we’re in the mini lite one.
Can you stream red tube on the wifi?
There is lots of free camping around Lake Isabella, why pay $55 per night?
where?!?!
You should learn how to cast from left, angler. 🤙
Looks over crowded to me.
Why have they been getting DRAGGED on trip advisor, yelp, dyrt lately? Looks like new management dropping the ball?
If there is wifi available, that is not camping
Everyone is way too close to each other
Rv is not camping lol, cool but it's like setting up and apartment outdoors
Ya, over the last 30ish years we’ve done it all from sleeping out of our car, to tents, to little cargo trailer full of tent camping gear, to pop up trailer, to hybrids, and now this bigger apartment. Different stages of life your wants and needs evolve!
