Peter either knew his master well or was very brave. When he divided the cockerels up, he did so in a way that left him with the most meat; instead of getting beaten or thrown out, he got rewarded.
I think the point is that Peter was clever, which is why the master rewarded him. Peter didn't want to sell his cockerel because it was one of his very few possessions, but he did so because of Paul. He divided it cleverly so he would still get something which impressed the master. Paul gave his 5 cockerels out of jealousy of Peter and solely because he wanted to have a good reward too, and was not clever enough to divide it evenly amongst the family.
It is old tribal rule to divde prey in such way everyone gets something. Not everyone will get much because hardly ever there is enough goods so they have to know why everyone got what.

Very few people know that the Hungarian folk tale is not just a fairy tale. They have a very serious philosophical content. Behind the content is the zodiac chronology. In Hungarian: "Napút" (maybe Sun trip(?) in English). Every action and animal has a meaning. There is literature on this, books and lectures have been published on the subject.
Damn, Peter nails it! His story reminds me of my tough times during my childhood. Eating meat is something I and my siblings always waiting for. We even eat the vegetables first and eat the chicken nuggets last for the best dining experience.
Another tale of two brothers, one good natured, humble and smart and the other ill-mannered, hoity-toity and stupid. And each receives their just reward.
If we follow the story, the children ate chicken two weeks in a row. Therefore, there was a plump chicken on the table every Sunday from this day on, and the simple soup and boiled potatoes disappeared.
@@destinymcintire2188 I think it's more a stereotype than a consistent trend, but since it's a stereotype, it's found in a lot of folk tales. But even though not all rich people are like this, I think it's still good to condemn the trope because you don't want anyone turning out like this if you can help it.
Is the whole department divided the roster according to their family status that made the master in the story pleased enough to give him the need to keep him and his family Rich
As a man Who love eating friend chicjen (technicaly rooster is a make chicjen, so not big difrence) I can say that the Young ladies got the Best parts of the whole family (not including the main protagonist), as I eat wing parts with pleasure.
Morale of the store seems to be ... rich people are pompous and pretentious who will enjoy being given small portions of food as well as the useless bits so long as you can make it sound like it's the best through your charisma. It's how you sell it, not what you are actually selling.
You probably know this, but this wasn't about eating chickens at all. The master (probably a member of the nobility) was giving Peter a chance to impress him and his family because landholders always needed clever and trustworthy tenant farmers. Landlords in the middle ages often had empty parcels due to raids, famine, plague, what have you, and would often grant their open leases to people who impressed them in some way.
I feel bad for Paul cos he didnt know how to divide. But why does Peter not want to give his cockerel to children? Afraid that they may become cannibals?! Nonsense
I love how he's petting and hugging the rooster while thinking about killing it and eating it.

Believe it or not, Farmers don't typically abuse their animals before slaughtering them for food. Most small farmers care for their animals deeply.
Peter either knew his master well or was very brave. When he divided the cockerels up, he did so in a way that left him with the most meat; instead of getting beaten or thrown out, he got rewarded.
His master seemed like a kind man, which is likely why he decided to gift him the bird anyway.

He could not overfeed the family so he gave them necessary portions and kept the bigger meat for himself and family so they can survive.
