When you realize that Rue's episode is about her not wanting to live anymore, and then it ends in a more or less hopeful note, while Jules episode is about her wanting to feel alive, and then ending in a distressful way... that shit hurts and now I am afraid
Yeah it's a nice parallel between their feelings considering the last episode in season one ended with rue crying and jules leaving happy in a way or another
They didn’t get the lip tattoos. Remember they said rue is not a reliable narrator? The whole tattoo sequence was her imagination, not reality (edit: the directors said it themselves)
When rue said “drugs are the only reason I haven’t killed myself” and “I just don’t really plan on being here that long” caught me off guard so bad and immediately made my cry because I remember telling people similar things when I was at my absolute worst, I remember being scared to death to say it and my voice was quiet and unsure just like hers. I remember thinking that everyday and telling myself that whenever the “future” came up. I know exactly what that feels like and all those feelings came rushing back like a tsunami wave.
I'm also going through an addiction and after watching that first episode I realized and came to terms that I have an addiction. It's not as serious as drugs but it is slowly changing me as a person... (It's maladaptive daydreaming)
Addiction is so tough and can be part of those dark moments. It's been part of me since I can remember. An addictive habit is a coping mechanism that may work in the short term but doesn't in the long term and this include far more than drug habits. Imo it's important to recognize how much shame addicts are made to to feel - we use because we're in immense pain and have limited access to healthcare and resources. Gabor Mate says, "ask not why the addiction, but why the pain?"
The way Hunter writing her episode was soooo special!!!!!!!!! She’s not toxic, she’s human, she have her problems and didn’t tell anyone. Period. My girls deserve a health and stable relationship.
People who are toxic are human too. I think we always have this split opinion on people "who are good with mental problems" and people who are toxic. It doesn't work like that. If we create a word like toxic to describe certain types of people then we will also have to use it for people we love or like who make mistakes and hurt others in a manipulative way. Ofc I'm not free of this myself. I have toxic traits too. It's just this picture of two groups of people which I don't find accurate. Idk, it just came to my mind when I read your comment. But don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you. They both went through so much and deserve happiness together. They have so much love for each other. It's beautiful. (sorry if I made any mistakes, English isn't my mother tongue)
This is so late for me to say… but I love that she used all of her emotions and trauma and put it into her artwork. It takes a strong person to be able to put all of what they endure into their art, and that’s what makes it even more sentimental and personal.
My pet peeve is when people say Hunter is basically just playing herself. No. This is her FIRST acting role and she is nuanced, transcendent and phenomenal as Jules. I’m sure she draws on real life experiences but she is playing a character, and she does it so well.
And they literally don't know who hunter is so how can they even compare her with her character? Oh, she has the same voice and face and body? Yeah shes an actor! those are her tools! I also heard like another actress (allison williams i think) say that people tend to think women are playing themselves while men can embody a character, as in misogyny. A lot to think about...
cause she co-wrote her part? it's not a difficult concept to understand why people say she played herself, nor is it negative in any way as you said she did it so well.
Everyone saying Jules is the villain, I honestly I don’t see it like she’s a girl that keep her feelings and her thoughts into a bottle or box, people forget that she is human even tho she makes mistakes in her life. That’s why I love this special of her, cause we can get to know her better. I can’t wait for season 2.
Culturally, we have a tendency to vilify women in television and be far less sympathetic to their flaws. It's getting better, but considering how egregious Nate's behavior is, it just feels wrong to vilify Jules.
When I first watched this show, bc we mostly saw events from rue’s perspective, I think I blamed Jules for a lot of things that happened with rue that weren’t really her fault. I loved her episode because it revealed a lot about her and I understood and was able to relate to her character a lot more. I also think that having hunter in the writers room was a great idea because this episode was one of my favorites and the writing was just amazing
@@user-nv3sh5jh3p yeah, it's all part of that same cycle. Men, we're "just misunderstood", while women become the villains. The myth that a violent man just needs someone to fix him has harmed so many people.
I like that conceptually both episodes are similar but stylistically so different. Like Rues episode is really stripped back and straightforward while Jules episode is more visual and artistic....and that...fits there personalities!!! like the way that euphoria has mastered perspective omg
people on twitter are talking about how rue never wore her hoodie around jules because she felt safe around her before but after she left her at the train station the part where rue visits jules she was wearing the hoodie meaning she doesn’t feel safe around jules anymore..
On the Special Episode of Rue, she also admitted to Ali that she relapsed because Jules cheated on her while she was sober. Was thinking the same when Jules just casually tells Rue that she hookep up with Anna. I feel like she doesn’t even care that Rue might get hurt. It’s sad that the reason Rue stayed sober was also the reason she relapsed, Jules.
@@karenl.8480 or as ali said, they didn't talk about being in an relationship. jules was used to one night stands so if they didn't talk about being in a relationship can you blame her? she talked about it casually cause she hooks up with people casually. its on both of them for not communicating. she didn't mean to hurt her cause she didn't think it would hurt her.
the lady who said "trouble don't last forever" in the dinner in rue's episode was telling her actual story, she was an addict and she's not even an actress but she did so good
Euphoria doesn’t romanticize addiction, It shows the funny/colorful side of drugs but it also shows us how much they take from you and your close ones. Like every bad thing, drugs have their ups and downs, just because on the show people get high and have fun it doesn’t mean it’s romanticizing it, they are just showing both sides of the spectrum. And also I hate when people say the show is unrealistic just basing the facts on their experiences, my friends and I partied a lot while in high school, we had lots of sex, we did drugs, we had a lot of fun but we also got too into in to the point I don’t talk now with most people I hanged with at that time, because not all of us could get out of it, just because you didn’t experience it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen
EXACTLY!! Same here some of them I don’t talk to anymore because I (somehow) managed to get through it and they haven’t:/ the other majority I don’t talk to because they’ve died because they couldn’t escape it. I have ONE friend I still talk to from that time, and we actually bought a house together. She got clean and got her life together before i did but she helped me through it Sure it had its fun times but goddd those bad times were 1000% worse than the fun
The people who didn’t like the episode are the same people who like Nate and romanticize Nate’s and Maddy’s relationship....so maybe don’t take their opinions seriously.
I neither like their toxic relationship or even care about it. Neither is this show an aesthetic i like. Rue just isn't the most interesting character to me. I almost didn't started the show bc her static voice and narrative is just not for me. And I had enough of her pov in the first season already and didn't think her extra episode gave anything new I didnt already knew. Like that she's an unreliable narrator. And while I understand why people did love her episode and can relate to her struggles, not everyone can too. Jules episode I really enjoyed and found interesting. Every woman can relate to what she said about femininity, layers and self esteem issues to some degree
Nah. I definitely don’t romanticize Nate and maddy (ew) but I didn’t like Rues special ep 🤷🏼♀️ those topics even are interesting and at some points relatable to me, I just personally felt like it was TOO slow paced for me to keep up. My attention span just sadly couldn’t keep up. I understand the appeal but personally didn’t like it as it was much TOO slow for me to take in. Sadly.
people don't realise Jules has went thru so much shit too, and specially loving a person who deals with addiction is so hard as she said "what if she relapses and i'm not there" it's always that thought cause Rue is so depended on Jules and that's why she had a dream ab Rue overdosing. another thing is WE FINALLY got to see why Jules was acting so weird in the Halloween party !
Hunter is so strong. The fact that she wrote her whole episode by herself... like I could never understand how hard it is to be her, and control her feelings go trough all she has on her shoulders. The pain. The pain in her voice etc. As a person who has went trough kinda the same experience as Hunter and Rue this show is relatable.
I just found out that she wrote her episode and I remember how much I find it wayyy more emptional than Rue's episode and I prefer to watch her therapy session over Rue and Ali's banter.
Hunter (Jules) said that the scene w/ Rue in the bathroom was the most difficult to film because she had to slam her body against the door for multiple takes and it hurt.. what a trooper lol.
Its funny cause I was like "bro you could hit that harder she's dying" But then again I've actually had to smash in on someone ODing. And toddler who lock themselves in a room 🤦♀️
I hate that other people think these episodes were boring😒. Pretty sure those same people are the ones who only watched Euphoria for the aesthetics and not the actual message behind it. Sam said it himself, he wanted to show the bad aaaand good about drugs in the eyes of a teenager.
@@jailawright2258 i really like the 1st one Ali was amazing its more of an episode on him as much as it is for Rue , the 2nd one was actually really boring i didn't like it at all , it take so much time to get to the new stuff and they kept repeating stuff that we already know over and over that i believe anyone could just skip it and be fine
notice how she never mentioned Ana as a love interest. I think Jules told Rue that she's in love with Ana to hide the fact that she's still in love with the idea of Tyler to just kinda give her an undefined reason on why she can't fully be with her.
Jules wasn’t in love with ana she was in love with rue she thought she was in love with Ana because Ana reminded her of rue and she was scared to love rue so she repressed it by using someone else
the part about the ocean: rue says that yes she believes in a higher power, per say and talks about the ocean. jules talks about the ocean as something she wants to be. My thought on that is Rua sees Jules just like she sees the ocean and puts Jules as her higher power, the "savior"
Yeah, i mean since the first rue be with jules she always put jules in a higher position and she depends on jules heavily... but jules is a human being and anyone no matter who they are cannot live with the burden of others. Especially rue's burden should be solved by rue and no one else thats why Ali talked abiut higher power and the not having a relation ship and focusing on self. Of course it will be nice if you have someone but like i said rue depends a lot on jules who just moved like 2 weeks ago, changed cities, friends and climate and suddenly she has this person that she loves but they make her insecurities and problem even worse. Jules always has to think about rue, if she okay if she is not overdosed somewhere. It a huge respo and its not easy. Thats why in the aparetemnt they show that if rue stays with jules she will overdose and jules knew that. Its not the time for them both to ride the train.
@@moochie8296 yes exactly, and just in general being in a relationship with an addict is really really hard because most times they depend on you and all you do you have to think of them too and its toxic like the relationship between jules and rue. jules tries her best to make rue feel okay and be okay however rue does to but she doesn't understand what jules also goes true. in the diner she talks about blaming jules for her relaps and stuff which is really unfair. And jules already had history with addicts aka her mom being an addict. Like they both know they are bad for each other its the whole thing of love isn't always enough. they have lots of love for each other but it wont work, at least for now. rue needs to get better and be with herself (idk if I'm explaining it right) so in a way its good that jules move away for a bit. its really really complicated, in both sides. Rue relies on jules more than she probably even understands. All of this is so unfair for jules, as she also said the whole thing about her not being able to talk about it with rue because rue will be sensitive about it and it will probably make things even worse. all of it is unfair to jules. With all the bullshit that's also why she created escapes that are not real. all of this to say, exactly rue relies on jules a LOT which is unfair to jules but also rue seems jules as like the pillar that she can rely on, her only "constant" (which also has been changing). The whole thing of her feeling like she knows Tyler more than her own best friend says a lot about rue's and jules's relationship
@@kmxe3888 I'm not sure what they mean but they probably mean to get more info from a mental hospital for the episode that instead of that hunter wrote it herself
@@kmxe3888 on the jimmy fallon show she was talking about her mental health being low and she wanted to go to see if she could get help but ended up writing all her emotions and it turned into a script for this episode
its funny that ash said "what girls are u talking to" when its the scene about jules explaining or "assuming" that every girl will always judge another girl by how they look and act because thats actually how girls with mommy issues think every other girl's mind structure is (i know bc i have it) vs ash relating to every characters with daddy issues
It also has to do with her trans identity. Trans people, in general, feel much more pressure to pass (as their gender) and therefore fear others will scrutinize and invalidate their identity. It ties in with Jules’ desire to be feminine. She associated femininity with being a woman, and tries to conform to the beauty ideal of women in order to validate her own womanhood. While she discusses her relationship with men directly, we see how this distorts her viewpoint of women in the way she interacts with them and fears them. Being rejected by the group she is apart of, and connects with as part of her literal being, is incredibly frightening. I don’t think Jules is internally misogynistic or sexist, at least from what we’ve seen of her. She does have a specific ideal of women, but that’s mostly due to her being transgender. Her issues with her mother do seem to affect her relationships with other girls, but not in a way where she stereotypes or generalizes them in a negative way.
this show isn’t about glitter. the special eps are so important in learning about the characters and the issues in teenagers and drugs and mental health
it’s so weird that people think it’s about glitter or maddy being snarky. these two episodes were great, an absolute return to form, if not an improvement.
Unlike some Euphoria fans, i enjoy the special episodes because we learn more about their backstory when the episodes are about them as individuals. When they were around each other in season 1, we were rarely shown the emotions the characters felt. These therapy sessions made me realize Jules is just as lost & rue, and is in search for purpose. She is nowhere near a villain, shes just worried now that shes realized her best friends health is extremely dependent on her presence. I wouldn't say Rue is a burden to her, but she is definitely taking a toll on Jules' ability to be free. I hope they work on themselves before knocking down each others walls again & being more toxic than they have ever been.
and rue is a burden on her ngl she’d be on burden on anyone n sometimes it’s ok to be a burden on someone but friends are not ur therapists !! and i feel like theyre rlly trying to make that the story for jules, like she’s not a villain just bc she wants to have her own life and rue shouldn’t be putting that on her as well tbh
Jules isnt a villian. jules mother was an addict. she couldn't help her mom so she scared she can't help rue. she doesnt want to have to responsible of rue relapsing. its too much for her
Complicating things is the fact that Rue gives her the non-judgement she lacked from her mother - when she lives to please other people. She has to leave Rue for her own safety because Rue is like her mother, but that's also why she's so dependent on her.
@@fruitygarlic3601 I agree, if rue can become sober without depending on Jules and Jules can learn to open up and hopefully deal with her problems they will have a chance
also rue in her mind blames jules for everything that happened, so shes going to narrate to fit her perspective of jules being in the wrong which is why everyone would think she’s the villain.
It’s interesting tho how it was a dream for rue and a nightmare for Jules( living together) but yet it was Rue who refused to runaway together and Jules who wanted her to do so.
also, streets have it that rue actually lied in the final scene of jules' episode where she said, "i'm going to meet ali". She was actually coming BACK from meeting ali since it rained in the end of ali and rue's talk, not in the beginning
I don’t think that’s true. Remember at the end of her ep she was riding in his car; Ali was driving her home. It looked late as fuck too. I don’t think Jules’ did would still be up to be so willing to answer the door and let her in.
Why can't Rue say she went to Jules on purpose? Maybe she listened to Marsha's words and have to make a choice (between the relationship with Jules or sobriety). But she is overwhelmed and doesn't have the strength to face the situation. Idk🙄
“It’s not realistic” is the worst criticism. Even documentaries are dramatizations. But the show does touch on real issues that teens and adults deal with. Substance abuse, insecurities, sexuality, and relationships.
i agree. People complain about things not being completely accurate with things...but would also be the people to complain about a show being to boring when it is to realistic. IMO the point of most TV is to provide an escape, and even shows that portray realistic ideas, like Euphoria, still need that drama aspect to 1. keep people intrigued and 2. to provide that escape people look for
these two episodes were the most important for the development of Rue and Jules. It's really sad to see people finding them boring and not understanding the message that Sam needed to show us. I'm happy to see that you liked it and talked about that.
@@chimdi1594 I completely agree about the Sam channelling Rue's episode and I'm not mad about it. He does a similar thing in Malcom and Marie which I saw a few days ago.
Did anyone else peep how rue sees the ocean as something bigger and more important than her and jules wants to be as strong and deep as the ocean? Is there a connection HMMMMMMMM?
When rue said “we talked about getting lip tattoos” it made me re think about what they said rue is not a reliable narrator so if they didn’t actually get lip tattoos and it was a “dream sequence” or imagination I wonder how much of the actual storyline is real and what rue made up.
In (Special) Episode 2 Jules said that she was taken by surprise when Rue kissed her (in Episode 3). She said it was because she never kissed a girl before. I personally think she was „scared“ of it because it was real love this time. She even said it in her Special Episode that it is easier for her to speak to people online cause none of it is real.
No that’s incorrect bc when each characters stories are shown it’s really not rue telling them . (I know that makes no sense) but rue is the narrarator and there’s no way she know all these peoples life stories, it’s simply rue doing her job as narrator to narrate the story
@@wendu6923 thank you!!! I was thinking the same thing as the person who wrote the comment and was so confused but at the same time it would be a bit to much to change it all however do you think the way Nate was portrayed could of been exaggerated by Rue bc he was hurting Jules ? It’s kind of the only character that has direct interactions with Rue and Jules and could of been affected by Rue and how she sees him
I'd be shocked if S2 doesn't feature Lexi and Fez-centric episodes. Maybe Gia as well. But definitely Lexi and Fez since fans have been begging for those two to get more attention.
I see that many people thought Rue was “boring” and it’s ok to not like an episode but there was a reason for that. One being the obvious, that it’s easier to film just 2 actors in one location similar to Jules’s because of COVID. I personally enjoyed it bc I’m in recovery and Ali embodies the OG AA member having an intimate conversation with a newcomer, listening to her vent and lie and gauging where her head is at. I can also tell you that Zendaya gives the most accurate portrayal of an addict I’ve ever seen on a “teen show”. From everything in season one, to the way we narrate our lives while lying to others AND to ourselves, even over the most insignificant things like the tattoos, is something we are known to do. Rue said from the very beginning that she’s not the most reliable narrator, which I thought was a nice little easter egg moment. Don’t worry, we will get our “regular” Euphoria back but in the meantime, I thought both episodes were beautiful and intricate.
I'm glad Rue talked to Ali about how she was feeling. I hope Fez isn't dead in Season 2. This show explains how Cassie loved her dad and how she gave him the stuff to sell ,because she thought he would come back home.
honestly, had the covid not happen, i do not know how sam levinson would introduce the story in season 2 without these special episodes. like where would we start? and how would we be able to fully see jules' side if every ordinary episode of euphoria is packed with lots of storylines? i mean, i know sam would have been able to find a way but still... i think] these episodes aren't just "last resorts" but also necessary additions to the whole storyline.
Jules is a character that I adore so much a trans boy. One thing I didn't expect but made me awfully happy was the fact she later on realized she was a lesbian (and the actress is too as i later discovered!) because you rarely see trans characters be attracted to their same gender since many expect to cage us in the same heteronormativity that maybe we transitioned because it would be "easier" to date the other gender which is a huge mistake... I myself thought that i had to be attracted to girls or i would never be "manly enough" to be seen as a dude but I'm just... not into them and that's ok, gender doesn't have to fit a certain sexuality, we all are different and that's what makes us, well, us
I love how Ali can always see through Rue’s bullshit and instead of judging her for it, he’ll give her solid advice and whether she accepts it is entirely on her
I feel you on the whole "is it realistic" thing. Maybe it's just because of the life I've had and being from a place with a big drug problem, but the most unrealistic part of this show to me is how stylish they are lol
I never understand why people hate SO much Jules. I related to her because my best friend was an adict and I had the feeling that if leave her something might happen. I understand the fact that Jules was not a healthy person at all for Rue, but we forget how difficult is to have someone who makes you feel like you are the only thing that keeps them alive. No teenager should feel thay kind of pressure.
@@yukijames1321 i completely agree. because rue is the narrator people are more biased towards her than jules. that’s why i love this episode so much because it really shows jules’ pov and how much weight was on her.
During the last half of season one I really disliked Jules, I felt like she was willing to accept Rue's love but wasn't willing to give any back or care about how her actions affected Rue's state of mind. I believe that's the reason a lot of people disliked Jules. This made me understand why Jules acted the way that she did, and now I can sympathize with her. Now it's clear that she was acting from a place of pain and confusion rather than selfishness. I still don't ship them, just because of how toxic their current relationship is.
can we also remember that jules’ mom left her at a mental hospital when she was young? like she’s trash outside of the addiction and we don’t need her !!!
can we also remember that Jules had severe mental problems growing up and was self harming and in the end the mental hospital helped her in the long run? Not saying the mom is an angel but you dont know how bad it has to be to get to that point where you have to choose between committing your child or having a dead child
@@assyrianprincess3 that’s fair. i guess i always interpreted that the self harm was because of the mental hospital and that her mom only took her there because of her gender expression.
@@allie2023 Noo, she had severe anxiety and self harm b4 the hospital. Plus she didn’t realize she was trans until after she was admitted so in the end the hospital helped her
Adding to what other people said...her mom did it because Jules was hurting herself. I don't think we'll ever understand what it's like to make a choice like that as a parent unless we are a parent and one of a child that deals with tremendous mental illnesses. And on top of that she was dealing with addiction. Coming from a parent who is an addict it's never black and white. Nobody becomes an addict without a reason to be one. My parent saw some life and death shit that the general population will never be able to comprehend. Not to say that addiction is okay but if you're going to be patient and understanding with Rue you should be with Jules' mom too.
It’s crazy because my boyfriend in high school died a few days before his prom that we were supposed to go to together. our last texts were him asking if I got my shoes yet and he was so excited. he overdosed in bed. I was on vacation when it happened; Disney world “the happiest place on earth”. I swear I cried an ocean and probably could’ve swam back home in my tears from Florida to Delaware. I came home as soon as possible and went right to his house. he had my jewelry still on my dresser and pairs of my underwear hung on his fan lol. he was a great guy, he wasn’t an addict just decided to get fucked up for a night. He’ll always be missed. Rest In Peace kyle💕
Wait a minute did Ash not realize that Rue and Jules weren’t actually together in the first scene of Rue’s part and it was just her “high.” She was literally imagining it hence showing us how unreliable and distorted her personal narration is. I absolutely adore the dialogue-focused episodes because honestly I’m more so here to experience emotions than for the ambiance. Granted, the ambiance is heavenly and carnal and tragic but the story is mmmmMmMmM
I think the ocean parallel is interesting, like how Rue believes the ocean is more powerful than her, and Jules wants to be like the ocean, and Rue depends on Jules so she sees Jules as a great power
Jules’ episode made me SOB - finally being able to get in her head and knowing the context behind everything she said and did throughout season 1... it made me love her so much more, but it hurt like hell.
I didn't know that Nate had her falling in love. I thought she just liked the idea of Tyler that he made up . It's sad that Jules mom ended her life by drinking.
when i was 14years old i was badly addicted, in a very bad place mentally and was basically homeless. one day my social worker asked me ''where do you see yourself when you turn 18?'' and i simply told her ''i didn't plan to be here that long''. so when Rue said the same thing, i f*cking CRIED. i turned 18 last week and i've been clean for three months, and just now i realized that! it's been a hard road, but hey, i did it! so this is for anyone who is struggling with anything, it does get better. trust me and just please don't give up!
i rly hope my friends end up like you. it’s painful not having any love for living, and it sucks to hear your friends say they don’t expect to make it past highschool. it’s like, i often don’t see the point in living but i want my friends to. i’m proud of you and your recovery and i hope this inspires any young struggling addict who comes across your comment.
@@kaepiper sending much love to you and your friends! it seems so so so so hard and it is, but recovery is possible and it really does get better if you are ready to get help and actually do it for yourself. you and your friends should be there for each other, but be there for yourself too!
word of advice, if you have unresolved trauma with one of your parents please be aware that you don’t look for your parent in a love interest . that’s why it’s so hard for Jules to let Rue go, she reminds her so much of her mom and she is scared to have her relapse based on her decisions . whether it’s daddy issues or mommy issues, don’t put yourself through such trauma again thinking or hoping you can fix someone who reflects your dad/mom because it’s a sad fantasy that you couldn’t face while growing up . didn’t mean to read you there but it’s a topic people need to discuss . especially when you can see how much Jules is hurting because of the conflicts of her mom and Rue, it’s hard to overcome being friends let alone being a child of an addict . these episodes opened my mind to how being sober is painful for so many people, be strong to anyone who is choosing to remain sober ❤️ .
when you think about it, the interpretation of Jules as the villain could be seen as "right" when you consider that the show is narrated by Rue. By the end of the season, Rue blames Jules for everything -- Jules is her villain in the battle with sobriety. So the interpretation isn't wrong, but it misses the nuance of the show and the unreliable narrator arc.
i meant it as in it is rude for them to completely disregard and wreck my mental stability by playing these two in the same episode, when it's already a sad/emotional episode on it's own
"Where the hell is Lorde?!" like same, but girl always fits a new existential crisis into her albums so I'm sure the next one's gonna be fire and make me cry a lot.
And with Fez it was Rue wanting to do the d word and saying he shouldn't have sold her the d word in the first place while also refusing to sell her anything While with Jules supposedly her "motivation" to get sober is where she OD
When Rue said that she doesn't plan to be alive for much longer it was is I was hearing me talk, it really fucked me up. The last part of that episode is so so good
The scene where Rue comes to see Jules is after the dinner episode and not before meeting Ali like she said. Rue is dry when she’s sitting in the diner with Ali and is wet from the rain when she goes to see Jules. It’s raining on their way home. She also says that she rode her bike to meet Ali and was riding home but Ali drove her home.
I really need a Gia, Lexi, and Fez story line. I feel like those three will see Rue in a whole different view...a true view of Rue? Gawd....I need the second seasons and Jules episode was ✨ chefs kiss ✨
The fact that through the whole therapy Jules is not dressed in her normal Feminine & sparkly clothes talking about how she didn't know what to do about her gender expressions
Ok I have watched now, we have to remember that when Jules is talking about how girls usually see her this comes from her perspective as a trans girl, when she mentions that girls usually look at her torso, etc this can easily be understood as how many girls knowing she's trans always look at her to maybe check if she "passes" and how fem she looks or well put together, etc. At least that's the way I understood the dialogue, and I did notice other women reactors reacted as you as well, being like "I don't have friends that do that" or "I don't do that" but every reactor and yourself and me who could have thought the same, well, we're all cis.
yeah i really loved that line actually lol. i know it’s not nearly the same as being trans, but i’m kinda overweight and i can definitely relate to people sort of ranking you silently
@@evelynsword8021 some people will be looking at you in competition but some are just curious . If someone tells me they got their boobs done I will want to see and compare. No hate just human curiosity. If it makes you feel uncomfortable hopefully the person stops looking.
tbh the silent competition thing sadly does happen, maybe they don't notice it since it probably hasn't affected them, but some of us, cis and trans, do notice and get affected by that "hierarchy"/ competition.
as someone struggling with addiction, rue's episode WAS SO IMPORTANT!! watching rue talk to her sponsor about the exact issues I'm having (resulting to drugs because of depression/suicidal thoughts) and hearing his blunt answers made me cry because I never got to have this conversation with anyone. I feel like they really needed these episodes and it helped showed that they weren’t trying to glamorize drugs and toxic relationships cuz rue and Jules both realized their relationship was not heathy
Well, she's not the most reliable narrator, which means things that she told us about the characters might not be true or maybe there's missing parts of their stories that she doesn't know about
I was so happy when Hunter just brazenly talked about admitting herself into a psych ward during her Jimmy Kimmel interview. I spent most of my teenage and young adult years in and out of psych wards, it would’ve been nice to have a role model like Hunter to make me feel less alone.
I LOVE how these episodes show how two people can be “toxic” for each other without actually being villains, because that’s real life. Toxicity is usually just a manifestation of previous problems. Also I NEED those Gia and Lexi episodes!!!!
Honestly Jules is one of the most relatable characters I’ve seen in media. When she said that she had shaped herself after other people, I had to pause it before I had a mental breakdown myself. Her special is my favourite thing Euphoria has done so far and Hunter Schafer is an absolute genius, how is she so good at everything like???
I just really wanna get i to Fez and Lexi’s story lines and back story. That’s what I was most excited about for season two but now I’m also super curious if the things we saw in the first season all legitimately happened or if Rue actually did lead us on at some point.
you’re absolutely right in saying that jules isn’t actually in love with tyler, she’s in love with the idea of him and the fantasy that she’s created of them in her head. I honestly think that jules is struggling with comphet (compulsory heterosexuality) and is most likely a lesbian. she explained how she feels as though her entire womanhood has been shaped by what she believes men want even though she’s now realizing that she’s not actually interested in men (and the only man that we’ve seen her show genuine interest in is someone who isn’t real) comphet on its own is difficult to navigate and it’s only made even more difficult when you’re trans because cis/heteronormative society often expect trans people to be straight because they find us easier to understand that way. contrapoints has a video called “shame” where she goes in-depth about it and I’d highly recommend other people watch it if they’re interested in understanding jules as a character more or if they’re struggling with comphet themselves.
Shame, yes! I felt like someone on the writing team was a ContraPoints viewer once Jules started talking about the ocean being sexy. The second special felt like one of her videos with a higher budget.
@@fruitygarlic3601 honestly the fascination with the ocean is probably some weird cultural thing amongst trans girls because I have it too lmfao. But you're totally right on it being slightly remniscient of Contra.
agreed! the comphet issues hit home way too hard for me and since hunter wrote it, and is a lesbian herself, i feel like she struggled with her own experiences with it. it makes the episode even better, like feeling less alone and having representation about it. i’ve never seen a show where comphet is talked about. it was such an emotional episode for me
Rue didn’t lie about just thinking about getting matching the tattoos, that’s the whole point. Rue is the narrator and she lets us see what she wants us to see, not the reality. So they didn’t get the tattoos, the scene was just in Rue's head.

Addiction is so tough and can be part of those dark moments. It's been part of me since I can remember. An addictive habit is a coping mechanism that may work in the short term but doesn't in the long term and this include far more than drug habits. Exactly , loved jules episode.
YES. LET THE SAPPHICS THRIVE

You're right. I'm still curious how much "Jules" is in "Hunter".

I hate when people drag jules to defend nate
When I first watched this show, bc we mostly saw events from rue’s perspective, I think I blamed Jules for a lot of things that happened with rue that weren’t really her fault. And also I hate when people say the show is unrealistic just basing the facts on their experiences, my friends and I partied a lot while in high school, we had lots of sex, we did drugs, we had a lot of fun but we also got too into in to the point I don’t talk now with most people I hanged with at that time, because not all of us could get out of it, just because you didn’t experience it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen

the part about the ocean: rue says that yes she believes in a higher power, per say and talks about the ocean. jules talks about the ocean as something she wants to be. My thought on that is Rua sees Jules just like she sees the ocean and puts Jules as her higher power, the "savior"
YO WTF-
Yeah, i mean since the first rue be with jules she always put jules in a higher position and she depends on jules heavily... but jules is a human being and anyone no matter who they are cannot live with the burden of others.

I- same except i’m here with mummy and daddy issues

I hope they work on themselves before knocking down each others walls again & being more toxic than they have ever been.

@@fruitygarlic3601 I agree, if rue can become sober without depending on Jules and Jules can learn to open up and hopefully deal with her problems they will have a chance

i agree. People complain about things not being completely accurate with things...but would also be the people to complain about a show being to boring when it is to realistic. the way these episodes were filmed during COVID and with so few characters, just story and conversation. *chef's kiss*
Scince rue said "i'm not the best narrator" or something like that the other caracters chilhood story can be different too omgggg
right
No that’s incorrect bc when each characters stories are shown it’s really not rue telling them .
It’s kind of the only character that has direct interactions with Rue and Jules and could of been affected by Rue and how she sees him
Notice how Rue’s dream of living together was a fantasy and for Jules it ended up being a nightmare
if they don't give fez an episode i'm bringing my strap
He deserves the world
I want to see what made him and the other boy who might be his brother, sell drugs.
Sjskjsj not the strap
fez is such an icon wow love that man
I'd be shocked if S2 doesn't feature Lexi and Fez-centric episodes.

I myself thought that i had to be attracted to girls or i would never be "manly enough" to be seen as a dude but I'm just... not into them and that's ok, gender doesn't have to fit a certain sexuality, we all are different and that's what makes us, well, us
They really keep forgetting that sexuality is a spectrum.
man me too as a trans guy i am so attached to jules as a character 😭 i wish someday we got a trans mlm character as good as hers but i can only hope
We love ✨representation✨ in this trans household.
Hunter Schafer is in fact not a lesbian (sorry to inform😭)
@@ashdavis3131 Lol I noticed😂 She did say she was but later on she said she was like Bi or Pan but either way great rep from her🏃🏻♂️
I love how Ali can always see through Rue’s bullshit and instead of judging her for it, he’ll give her solid advice and whether she accepts it is entirely on her
I feel you on the whole "is it realistic" thing. Maybe it's just because of the life I've had and being from a place with a big drug problem, but the most unrealistic part of this show to me is how stylish they are lol
All I'm sayin is when I'm getting high I am NOT shaving my legs and certainly not combing my hair. Disrespectful.
When Jules cried I cried. The anguish that crying expressed, I could feel it, I've been there. Hunter, actress of our generation.
i don’t understand how jules was her first ever acting role she was so good
I never understand why people hate SO much Jules.
Totally agree. But at a certain point an external party needs to interfere to clarify that they are not healthy for each other.
Its the transphobia for me.
@@yukijames1321 yeah I mean I never gave sympathy to Jules or rue I just thought they didn’t need to associate at all there not good for one an other
can we also remember that jules’ mom left her at a mental hospital when she was young? like she’s trash outside of the addiction and we don’t need her !!!
That was sad. She didn't even visit her.
can we also remember that Jules had severe mental problems growing up and was self harming and in the end the mental hospital helped her in the long run?
Granted, the ambiance is heavenly and carnal and tragic but the story is mmmmMmMmM

that’s how i feel with jules especially the comphet stuff 😭
I think the ocean parallel is interesting, like how Rue believes the ocean is more powerful than her, and Jules wants to be like the ocean, and Rue depends on Jules so she sees Jules as a great power
Jules’ episode made me SOB - finally being able to get in her head and knowing the context behind everything she said and did throughout season 1... it made me love her so much more, but it hurt like hell.
I didn't know that Nate had her falling in love. I thought she just liked the idea of Tyler that he made up . It's sad that Jules mom ended her life by drinking.
yes she's in love with the idea of tyler not with nate
when i was 14years old i was badly addicted, in a very bad place mentally and was basically homeless. one day my social worker asked me ''where do you see yourself when you turn 18?'' and i simply told her ''i didn't plan to be here that long''. so when Rue said the same thing, i f*cking CRIED. i turned 18 last week and i've been clean for three months, and just now i realized that!

ur honestly SO strong!! very proud, keep going💓
word of advice, if you have unresolved trauma with one of your parents please be aware that you don’t look for your parent in a love interest . that’s why it’s so hard for Jules to let Rue go, she reminds her so much of her mom and she is scared to have her relapse based on her decisions . whether it’s daddy issues or mommy issues, don’t put yourself through such trauma again thinking or hoping you can fix someone who reflects your dad/mom because it’s a sad fantasy that you couldn’t face while growing up . didn’t mean to read you there but it’s a topic people need to discuss . especially when you can see how much Jules is hurting because of the conflicts of her mom and Rue, it’s hard to overcome being friends let alone being a child of an addict . these episodes opened my mind to how being sober is painful for so many people, be strong to anyone who is choosing to remain sober ❤️ .
when you think about it, the interpretation of Jules as the villain could be seen as "right" when you consider that the show is narrated by Rue. By the end of the season, Rue blames Jules for everything -- Jules is her villain in the battle with sobriety. So the interpretation isn't wrong, but it misses the nuance of the show and the unreliable narrator arc.
But rue doesn’t see Jules as a villain these two characters don’t hate eachother

god the parallels between rue screaming at fez through the door in s1 and jules screaming at rue in the second special episode just KILLED me
And with Fez it was Rue wanting to do the d word and saying he shouldn't have sold her the d word in the first place while also refusing to sell her anything
While with Jules supposedly her "motivation" to get sober is where she OD
When Rue said that she doesn't plan to be alive for much longer it was is I was hearing me talk, it really fucked me up. The last part of that episode is so so good
Same I can relate to her so much
The scene where Rue comes to see Jules is after the dinner episode and not before meeting Ali like she said. Rue is dry when she’s sitting in the diner with Ali and is wet from the rain when she goes to see Jules. It’s raining on their way home. She also says that she rode her bike to meet Ali and was riding home but Ali drove her home.
It might be true, although if it was after that scene it does not make sense the text of Jules in Rue' episode.
I really need a Gia, Lexi, and Fez story line. I feel like those three will see Rue in a whole different view...a true view of Rue? Gawd....I need the second seasons and Jules episode was ✨ chefs kiss ✨

At least that's the way I understood the dialogue, and I did notice other women reactors reacted as you as well, being like "I don't have friends that do that" or "I don't do that" but every reactor and yourself and me who could have thought the same, well, we're all cis.
personally i feel this sort of judgment from girls all the time. it feels like a silent competition
@@evelynsword8021 yes same, I could relate so much to everything she said
yeah i really loved that line actually lol. i know it’s not nearly the same as being trans, but i’m kinda overweight and i can definitely relate to people sort of ranking you silently
@@evelynsword8021 some people will be looking at you in competition but some are just curious . If someone tells me they got their boobs done I will want to see and compare. No hate just human curiosity. If it makes you feel uncomfortable hopefully the person stops looking.
tbh the silent competition thing sadly does happen, maybe they don't notice it since it probably hasn't affected them, but some of us, cis and trans, do notice and get affected by that "hierarchy"/ competition.

you’re absolutely right in saying that jules isn’t actually in love with tyler, she’s in love with the idea of him and the fantasy that she’s created of them in her head.
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
agreed! the comphet issues hit home way too hard for me and since hunter wrote it, and is a lesbian herself, i feel like she struggled with her own experiences with it. it makes the episode even better, like feeling less alone and having representation about it. i’ve never seen a show where comphet is talked about. it was such an emotional episode for me
Rue didn’t lie about just thinking about getting matching the tattoos, that’s the whole point. Rue is the narrator and she lets us see what she wants us to see, not the reality. So they didn’t get the tattoos, the scene was just in Rue's head.
