Saying Supernatural went through a lot is the understatment of the century. They threw almost everything and the kitchen sink in there. Destiel truly is the top tier ship of ships. I have watched over a hundred shows from beginning to finale and have yet to come across a better ship. No pair has done for each other what those two have. Most shows simply don't have the world building necessary for that to even be possible. Even if they did you would have to find two characters who are that unwell about each other to put themselves through certain things. It's borderline toxic but for fiction's sake it works.
My Dean and Cas! I love them so much! They have one of the most beautiful yet tragic love stories! Like: the love story of a warrior of god & the righteous man who defy destiny together, fight for free will, fight to be able to make their own choices, they say fuck fate and quite literally fuck god...this could have been quite literally Shakespeare level, romeo and juliet level!
Saw someone mentioning the popularity of destiel and just wanted to explain it in more detail. So 2 years ago destiel became the first ship with 100k fics on ao3. Today it has over 112k fics and is still the only ship that reached 100k, second place has somewhere aroud 70k. And just to put the number more into perspective for you, let's compare it to a popular ship you know - Klaus and Caroline. They're the most popular ship from TVDU and they have 4k fics. Destiel has 112k 😀 that's 28 times more
funfact: Cas and Dean are the most shipped characters on the fanfiction site ao3 with over 100.000 works/fanfictions- it's still a debate in the fandom if they're actually canon. (Cas tells Dean: I love you, right before he dies at the end, but some say it's just platonic or that Dean never said it back so it has to be one sided) Cas actor confirmed Cas was IN love with Dean, whereas Dean's actor is more on the side that it was a platonic love confession (as far as i know). Nevertheless this is a ship that drew a lot of people into watching the show and is pretty significant in the queer community

You can say what you want, BUT it's canon that Castiel was romantically *in love* with Dean. They left Dean's feelings open for interpretation and Jensen himself has said that it's not up to him to tell the fans what to see there. The artist doesn't stand by his painting and tells people what to see. The viewer gets to interpret the art how they want. For you Destiel doesn't exist. That's fair. However, you can't tell other people that it doesn't (or can't) exist for them. Not without expecting us to push back.
I have no problems with the ship in fan fiction, but don’t believe in canon. Cas for sure, but Dean never saw Cas like that. Jensen has said he doesn’t believe Dean saw Cas like that and he is basically Dean so… You should have a look at Jensen singing SOB and whipping post, and also the edited Brother clip by Summerrain810.
