I know you’re just joking, but honestly, try speaking Japanese, and you will see how hard it is to switch between the languages. Especially going from Japanese to English, because there are sounds in the English language that simply do not exist in Japanese, such as V, L, and TH. On top of that, Japanese has just 5 vowel sounds, English has around 20, depending on your accent. Additionally, Japanese letters mostly represent syllables like ka, yo, and te, just as examples, which is why they have names like Nobuharu Matsushita and Yuki Tsunoda. It is literally impossible to pronounce a name like David McDonald (not a real person, just a good example) in Japanese, it ends up more like Debiddo Makudonarudo if you try to translate it. They also say family names before given names. Finally, their entire way of constructing sentences is different, so to say something like “I go to bed at 10:00P.M.” You need to say “P.M. 10:00 is bed when I go to.” Hopefully all of this puts into perspective why a lot of Japanese people have a hard time with English and vice versa. I think it would be difficult to find two languages more different. I have been learning Japanese for a while, and I’m really enjoying the challenge, but I still have a looooong way to go. 😂
It makes sense, given English is Yuki's second language and you can notice he's always consciously searching for the right words to say. During a race where everything is happening so fast and emotions are high, he wouldn't have time to think of the "right words" so swearing comes easy and naturally. It's almost like a flight or fight response.
Exactly, oftentimes if I can't find the correct noun to use I'd just replace it with "shit", works everytime as long as it's not in formal setting For verbs, I'm sure you know the substitute word
there was an interview once and the interviewer asked different drivers '' what is your dream? '' and all of the drivers said '' to be an F1 champion '' and yuki said '' i want to open a restaurant ''
Oi mate you want to get fookin janked eh? You say there is something wrong with my accent? (Please don't retaliate, I'm not really British or any other kind of dweller of the Isles)
I think the swearing is also because it's his second language. Swear words have less taboo when it's not your native tongue. Also they're fun to say lol
I wanna give a big shout out to the WTF1 guys, because as the interview goes you can see how much at ease Yuki gets, that really elevates the quality of an interview, really great stuff.
He is still in the "learning English" mode, and the easiest words happen to be swear words. I can see how contagious these words are, considering they can express any emotion.😂im with you Tsunoda👍
A little bit of guessing from a Japanese guy about the phrase "traffic paradise". In Japan, there are occasions when bits of cities close the roads down so that pedestrians can walk around without having to worry about being run over. This is called the "Hokousha-Tengoku" which translates as "Pedestrian Paradise".
He is precious. I am loving the newer generation of F1 drivers coming in - Lando, Charles, George, etc. are all so fun to watch on and off the track! Imagine what it will be like when the older guys like Perez, Riccardo, Sainz, and Gasly become the "old guys" and the younger ones are in their prime. Those will be fun seasons to watch too!
I love that the answer to 'What's different about formula 1 to formula 2" is 'Well, there's the downforce, and the top speed, and the cornerspeed, and the acceleration, and how much lighter the car feels, and how much more sensitive it is etc.' We all know the answer is "It's a spaceship on wheels"
Great interview. Always impressed by how well you guys put on this show.. also, love Yuki.. Reminds me so much of my favorite great drivers.. Dale Earnhardt, Kimi Räikkönen, Mansell, Senna.... he’s such a natural talent, and kind of a badass.. Much love to all! 🖤🤘🏻
It’s good to see drivers who are at the beginning of their career, so relaxed and easy to have a conversation I’m wondering if would be the same with a multiple world champion
It sounds like Yuki is the kind of person who internalizes everything whether it's from racing to first person shooter games. If you're "in the zone," showing the inner workings of your emotional state and swearing and shouting just come out naturally. 100% of your mental state is dedicated to the sport, and none of it is spent on your filters.
Yeah, it’s gotten to the point where I genuinely feel bad for Mazepin, sure he did some dodgy stuff, and he may not always be the cleanest racer, but he has talent, there is no doubt, he just needs to stop over driving a car that is never going to be fast. I hope Haas can get back on the tail of the midfield next year so we can see what Mick and Maz can really do. It was great to see Schumacher and Latifi having that battle in Portimao, it gave them both some screen time, which is rare for any battle outside the top 10.
@@McPlayer8t Well yeah he's trying too much in that shitty car rn. Like he's pushing himself to the limit which makes him spin, etc. He finished about a minute behind Mick, probably cuz of his driving style which is clearly not helping him. So we can't really say yet, if he's a good driver or not.
Even though I'm impressed with how well he speaks english so far, I'm excited to use this a baseline in a couple years to hear how much it improves, kind of like Carlos Sainz when he first joined F1
In defense of Yuki since I am Japanese the Japanese schooling system is pathetic when it comes to teaching English. They have six years of English learning which is compulsary but it is geared towards passing English exams and nothing else, therefore they can't even have simple English conversation after six years. I think he also uses the four letter word often because it sounds cool.
I somehow get Gen Z vibes while listening to Yuki. Especially what he said about gaming felt so familiar to what I experienced as well. Is that "2" at the beginning of his birth year really making that much difference?
This boy Tsunoda is very Non-Japanese when it comes to swearing. From my experience of living in Japan from the last 10 years, it is rare to find a Japanese person who swears a lot and so openly. They usually do it privately or secretively :D I like this dude! wishing him big success
The thing is, in Japan, people are proud of Japanese and people in Japan outright refuse to even learn english. Less than 2% people in Japan can speak english fluently, this can attribute to the fact that Yuki has to learn the language from scratch and struggles with it, hence the swearing.
@WTFTommy - Nice guitar buddy! I love me a nice LTD EX-series - proper bit of kit. - So guess I've got a 'fave' member of the crew now! Great interview.
