    The loop tends to null out signals that are perpendicular to it, so it is possible that you could have had an even better RX on some of those weaker ones by rotating it.

      I have tried but didnt notice much difference so far. I know it has a lot to do with the design of your loop.

    Great results shown there. I suppose that I am lucky that I don't have much around me in respect to anything that can produce noise, and of course hope it stays that way.

    Well done Colin. You're not the first person to crash a website 😂 🙈
    Great A/B test. I've gone from a long wire to a multi band delta loop at home, where I'm surrounded by telephone and electric poles. Made a huge difference on receive. My old ft-847 only has one HF antenna connection though.

      I made a tx/rx auto ant switch which will solve your problem.

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  4 часа назад +1

      Excellent Fraser. As Brian says, you need a dedicated swich and you can use different ant's for TX and RX.

    Well done colinn, ive always used a vert on tx, and 40m dipole 3m high for rx, no noise now. One ant socket on the rig, no probs, made a tx/rx ant switch, works great. 73 mate.

    I am sure you can also use that new SDR-switch for the same purpose of having a dedicated receive antenna input.

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  4 часа назад

      Yes, you can. I will do this when I eventually use a dedicated SRD RX.

    I’ve been using a Wellbrook loop for years and on 60m it has been a godsend. I have some noise on 40m but the s/n is night and day over a wire antenna. Ideally you need a radio with a dedicated RX ant port.
    Loops in general are quieter than Marconi antennae.

    I built a 900 foot long Beverage receive-only antenna for use on 40, 80, and 160 meters. It turned out to be very good at resisting corona discharge during a thunderstorm that rendered a 40m Yagi useless on receive. Signal levels were lower than on the Yagi, but corona noise was eliminated.

    I have a S3 or 6 noise depending on the band and etc. I have been looking for a receiver loop and my K4 has. Receive antenna input. Noting is perfect but hearing someone many listening much better.

    Very good.
    I suffered from broadband internet noise from my telephone wire (not in use) which Ofcom investigated and said it had probably corroded and radiating.for many years and h.f. was killed for me with S8 noise 160m to 20m except 60m. I lengthened my 40m inverted vee for 60m.
    I made an indoor magnetic loop to null out the noise and that worked for me.
    The noise went down considerably when it was changed to fibre optic cable.
    G4GHB.

      60m is a killer for me to. I don't use it as my 590 is stil locked. I need to wideband it for this.

    is it only for 40 Meter band or does it cover all the HF Band ?

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  4 часа назад +1

      It covers all of HF but best below 20m IMO. It will however depend on your own situation.

    Build a air choke from coax. 6 meter coax around a botle or whatever. NOT the turns are importent. The 6 meter coax are. You need create reactence. Good Luck. Pa5dek.

    Blimey. Maybe I need to get one! I have an MLA 30 on a shortwave receiver I have in my other QTH - hadn't considered using a loop for general 40m receive. What about 80m? My main QTH is very noisy on 80m.

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  4 часа назад +2

      It works great on 80m but I didn't show it as I cant do a comparison to a full size antenna. Works well on 160m too.
