I have ataxic cerebral palsy. I'm weak. I'm clumsy. I'm slow. I walk weird. I fall a lot. So naturally, I was bullied in middle and high school. And I almost look at my past as a blessing. Or a lesson. Because of those bullies and the people who wouldn't even give me a chance, I have learned to give EVERYONE a chance. Race, gender, religion, appearance, etc... And the easiest thing to tell bullies and trolls and shallow people who judge people based on their physical appearances, they could have... or probably... missed out on having friendships and even relationships with really nice, wonderful people... All because they couldn't see past the surface.
Nathan Solomon Yeah I play Madden. I won't apologise for it. EA makes me sick, and I wish anyone else made the game but they bought exclusive rights. And I love football, so I don't have any other options for a football game
I know this is an older video but I always hung out with the "outcasts, fat nerds and geeks" honestly, they are some of the best people I ever met because they were the most kind hearted and fun people to be around since we all gamed, played magic the gathering and built computers. I love being a nerd.
You made this 3 years ago, but it's exactly what I needed to hear today. Lately I've been really struggling with connecting to other people, and I've been isolating myself a lot more. I thought it was impossible but you've actually inspired me to spend more time with people just for the sake of it. Thank you.
Im totally with you man. With the exception of my fiance, and wow (lol) I find it extremely hard to make friends and/or just be outgoing. Basically talking about the connection you mentioned.
Since I came across your channel, I've probably watched more of your videos back-to-back than most of the other channels I'm subscribed to. To say that's its quickly become one of my favorites is doing a disservice to the word; your videos, whether it be a Francis raging review, or a ramble about current issues or something like this are amazing. I have yet to not be surprised, moved and inspired by how much you share; whether or not you feel any sense of trepidation, you push on and shine a light on some of your darkest moments and some of your brightest moments, and this video is no exception to that pattern. If we all had the same strength of character you demonstrate, the world would be a very different place, and it makes me wonder how many of us do have it, or are capable of having it, but stop short of sharing it or turn away from that moment of growth out of fear. All I can really say after that is keep on fighting. If we're lucky, some of us will find that moment that lets us stand up and fight too. When I read the comments section on so many of these videos, I see the potential for so many bright points of light and strength, people who come forward to offer their support and share their own stories and I smile. It makes me stop and wonder if today might be "The Day" for one or even some of them; if I'm totally honest with myself, I'm able to cast aside my realist tendencies and believe that each and every person who finds inspiration in the things you create and share immediately begins finding their own path and forging ahead for the rest of us to one day follow. If there is one testament to the monument you have - perhaps - unwittingly built, if there is a legacy to what you have aspired to be and your drive to continue growing, it is this; I sincerely believe that you have touched and inspired countless people and that some (or even most) of them will go on to do amazing as well. And if they inspire even just one other person, you will still be responsible for changing the lives of countless people for the better.
Honestly Boogie, you are a great guy and hope you keep learning and becoming a better person. Prayers be with you big guy, just know you got a friend in me.
Man I'm so glad I found your channel. I just found out about your Francis videos but going through your channel I saw some enlightening stuff. Keep it up and I'm looking forward to exploring your channel more.
I grew up loving anime, video games, Yu-Gi-Oh card collection and wearing glasses. I used to get hated from my parents all the time from that. And picked on at school from it. But luckily I made some friends who liked the same things. MORE POWER TO US NERDS!!!
Randalf The Grey Believe it or not, I was bullied for hating the popular sports, and trying to play something else. My argument was like "but it is so popular in country x!". Guess the counterargument! If you guessed "then you should move to that country", you guessed right.
Niels Novum Yeah, but I needed another players. No wonder I ended up running, swimming, weightlifting, etc. just myself. I wonder how many people I would never see again if everyone could have always played what they wanted, instead of this bullshit we have, where it's about everything but sport.
Boogie, you make me feel better about myself by me watching this video, I have always had different interests than other people (such as paleobiology and earth science) and I feel that no one likes me because of it :( but watching this video of yours makes me feel better, and I love you for that, you have helped me so much :)
Boogie you're such a wonderful person. This doesn't have much to do with being a nerd, but I always got made fun of because I dated and am still dating a person whose overweight, and I'm not. People kept asking "How much did he pay you?" And I've realized that you can't hate on those people, you just gotta smile, step aside, and move on with your life. Different is okay.
That’s the key to life: It’s all bullshit. Be who you are. Be what your are. Celebrate diversity. Celebrate differences. And fuck everyone who wants to get in your way. - Steven “Boogie” Williams
I love you man. You're a serious inspiration to me. I attend high school and I'm a Junior. I have had Aspbergers since I was 7 years old and I've always been different. I love to write, I love to learn, I love to read, I love to do school work. I love to help people. I love to meet people who are different. God I love your channel.
Hey boogie I just gotta say your videos are amazing! I'm very different and right now I'm prob going through the worst time in my life but your videos can put a smile on my face I can say to myself everything is gonna be ok!
***** hahahah yeah! I know about this guy. He's weirdly cool. Yes at first I thought he was nuts, but when I look more of his videos then I know it was just all an act.
but then in the second term i randomly saw a group discussing anime in the cafe, and plucked up the courage to talk to them and discovered a whole new community existed, one where i could be myself w/out having to fake it. went to conventions, hell i even cosplayed and really enjoyed it. Finishing uni this year and it has been the 3 best years of my life, and made the best groups of friends through it.
Actually we're all different. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, ha, you nerd!....Just kidding, I played Dungeons & Dragons for 10 years between the 70's and 80's. I'm one of the biggest nerds there is. For 30 years I spent most of my time "having fun" writing computer code and my friends couldn't understand why I enjoyed it. Hmmm, I guess this is about the 6th comment (maybe more) that I have made on your channel, something I hardly ever do, so I guess I'll sub.
Boogie you are such an inspiration! I grew up quiet tall through childhood, had its easy, quiet popular, then suddenly everyone started shooting up during puberty and i just stayed the same height :/(16). Everyone takes the piss, I can't even get a girlfriend as they are taller than me. Every night, I lie there, wishing I was taller and more "manly". This video showed me, I can't change who I am so I should learn to love who I am and be proud. Thank you so much for that. I genuinely love you!
Everything you said is true, I have 3 really close friends and they are all different , with different passions and I love them for it. I came to the same thoughts in a different way but to me it's the meaning of life, celebrate variety.
"Coming at you life through the power of the internet." Makes you feel inspired and self-aware right from the start. We often fail to recognize this miraculous ability to communicate. Great message, as always, Boogie. Hears to being unique
I had this conversation with my sister and her boyfriend. (who are great people), and we talked about this for hours.. the main point is that everyone has something in common and that's being different.
I was bullied myself growing up. I was a little over weight "Husky" I found gaming as a way to escape the constant and daily pains of being bullied. I feel your pain, Boogie. I found in gaming, that there was people who shared the same interests as myself. I am 34 years old, and STILL a gamer. I have a diversified group of friends myself. The kids who picked on me in grade school and high school, still have not grown up. Out of high school I became an EMT and a Firefighter. All while Gaming.
Thank you!! I am testing things out....like adding text from my character over the video and I would like to know if its better that way...or worse, I appreciate the feedback as well. I understand stop motion takes a lot of pictures and there might be difficult with your time schedule, but I think it will be totally worth it because the content itself is actually pretty freaking good! I love Legos, keep up the good work.
I orginally subscribed to Boogie because I thought his Francis videos were hilarious. But after seeing his videos like this one, they have changed my life. They have increased my confidence. They motivate me and inspire me. Thank you, Boogie, for being a sense of hope in my life when I struggle.
I think the world is starting to take small steps to be coming more accepting; for example I'm a massive comic fan, but was always terrified to tell everyone. Though when I finally stopped caring about peoples opinions I found a lot of people in my school loved comics, and many more wanted to so they started talking to me to learn more. I've learnt you should just do what you love, as people who are similar to you will eventually gravitate towards you.
That was beautiful boogie. I've always been picked on for being short and loving video games. Thank you for helping me realize that I shouldn't care what other people think or say about me,
I get picked on constantly at school and out of school and after listening to this I realised let them get on with it and celebrate being different thanks boogie you've changed my life :)
i understand were your coming from i also suffer from depression and i often can't understand others and there feelings i like things that most people don't i sometimes feel like i banging my head against the wall and peoples stupidity drives me insane and all i can do is hold my tongue, i know how you feel and it sucks. i hope you can find some happiness though.
You sir, have gain my absolute trust. All of things I was expect to hear from you, I never thought I met a person who finally learned that normal doesn't truly exist. Hell I actually try to avoid the word normal, cause it doesn't truly exist to begin with. You made a good friend here today. :)
That's great Boogie, i'm beginning to come to have a similar realization in life, realizing that we are all humans and feel the same things, but different things trigger those feelings in each person.
Another truly inspirational video. If only everyone could see your videos and approach them with an open mind the world may be a better place where we all understand each other, where we all celebrate our difference, and where we all come together in harmony.
I've always been thought of as a different person at my school just because I seek success with a future career as a corporate lawyer. People would laugh at me and say that I need to live a little and go to parties and get drunk with people. Honestly that doesn't seem fun to me at all and I'm made fun of just because I don't do that stuff. After seeing this video, it feels really good to be different from the rest of my class. I am now proud of who I am. Thank you for this video Boogie :)
Same here Boogie. I'm the only one in my neighborhood that likes board games, and i used to get bullied EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR HALF A YEAR, no joke. What's even worse is that my only two serious gaming friends are moving. Life can sometimes suck. But it can be pretty good too. For now, i'm happy because i know that there are people out there that will like me. Live a good life, Boogie. :)
The 1st minute of the video sums up my first year in secondary school. I just wanted to read books but was picked on up until I had to stop reading them at school and do it at home instead
Being subscribed to Boogie for a while now, I have seen quite a few of his videos. They're truly inspirational. Not only is he a funny comedian, gamer and youtuber he is also an inspirational speaker. Truly one of the greatest men I have ever seen.
Damn it! This guy just says things how they are and what he thinks, and he's never wrong. Boogie makes suck important points and gets messages across without shouting, music, other people, or trying to force his opinion on you. He just sits down and tells you how it is. And to that, boogie... I shake your hand.
.....feel the same way too. You are a true word smith and deep thinker and genuine caring passionate person. You are a great speaker. Just amazing. everything you said is awesome and I hope it gets some people to think a little about certain decisions they make in life.
Boogie, you are truly one of the greatest people and one of my all time youtube favorites I always find your videos so comforting when im depressed, but also soooo damn funny when you want to be!
deffinetly one of those videos out there that not many people make so i aplaud him for making this very heartfelt hope that more people in this indusrty can be like this
I think I can't /not/ share this. Like, I don't think I could leave the page and not wish to share this amazing video. Truly a wonderful video, and great to hear. You're a wonderful person. More people really need to see this, and try to understand. Thank you, so much!
I really like this. My husband went through hell im school. He loves MTG and is a hard core gamer. 3yrs ago. I broke my back in 5 places. I remember telling someone "i cant wait til things get back to normal". He responded with "There is no such thing as normal". I gained weight because the wreck left me disabled. Im struggling with a liquid diet but I am doing it to help my back. My reality has changed completely. I have gotten use to the looks i get when im leaning on my cain on a bad day.
you were on an intellectual plain far more complex than the primitive world you were brought into, boogie. It is only considered eccentric because most of the world didn't understand you. But It took me a while to figure out as well that it wasn't me who was the issue because I enjoyed many of the same things growing up as you did when I was younger as well, but it was everyone else who ridiculed me for it who was the real eccentric. your stories are always uplifting! keep it up boogie.
I think this is your best video. It made me smile because in my group of friends it's all different races, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and fandoms. We get along because of what we have in common and ignore our differences. If only the world could be that way.
boogie i really think you should be a guidance counselor at a high school or ;something. Your words have so much impact and I imagine can make anyone feel amazing about themselves; even if they are as you said "different"
Thank you for making me comfortable with myself man, you are a huge inspiration and are part of the reason I started doing gameplay videos. I'm sure you inspire a lot more people than me, keep it up man:)
im 360bls boggie and im 16. you've helped me out so much and I love your videos. everytime I watch your videos it makes me feel a little better about myself. if I had a wish, it would be to meet you. just sit down and talk to someone who knows what its like. that's all I really wanted to say I hope you see this boogie..
You should be a philosopher. You have amazing words of wisdoms. You're such amazing person and I love have you speak the truth about everything without holding back.
Hey Boogie I completely understand the instant bond thing you are talking about with video games. I heard through the grape vine that a few of the top athletes at my high school played league of legends. Now nobody would think that some high school jocks played league of legends so I was a little skeptical. I finally figured why not fuck it and asked one of them strait up if they did. Turns out they actually do play and now I've got some really great friends that I would have never thought I wud
I'm a straight country boy, and I still appreciate and love watching your videos. We're polar opposites, but I feel like I can connect to you better than most people. Keep being you Boogie. This video needs to have a million views.
At my school not many people are into Go Karting and stuff and are more into football and baseball and everything but I go kart on a regular basis and am currently working on (10 years from now) becoming a Formula 1 Driver and I haven't really told many people that I compete in a sport that might be different to many but now that you bring up these points boogie I will and will def be proud of it and also look for me 10 years from now drive a Formula One Car!! McLaren here I come
Boogie a get so much crap of so many people because im differnt, people say im anoying, people say im a ps3 addict who needs to get a life, people make fun out of my name. And i feel like i take it out on other people and dose this mean im being punished for taking it out on other people. I have some friends but no many, i dont hang arround with them out side of school because they dont want to be with me. But you have inspired me to find people with comon intrest as i do. Thank you so so much!!
Thank you for making these videos. I keep coming back to watch some old ones to keep myself motivated and aware of things I tend to forget from time to time. Thank you again for making such videos to serve as reminders for people like me. :)
I agree with you. You are a real cool guy. I have been trying to figure out what I am passionate about. I have problems making friends and I have spoken to councilors about it, but nothing is changing because I don't know my passions. I enjoy other people interests, (I admit sometimes I criticize them in my head) but I can't connect with these people even though I try to open myself to them.
Watching Boogies videos has such a calming and comforting affect on me! When I want to relax I usually watch/listen to ASMR-videos( google it if you dont know what it is, its an amazing experience!) Boogie is like my free therapy session! His kindness, humbleness and wanting to help other people...I´m jealous of his generous heart!
I've been going through the same situation too, Boogie. I know that I'm different, but I'm still looking for people that are on my wavelength. I've met some cool people, but I still haven't met someone that is just as different as I am.
At least you're not burdened with self doubt... Everybody has something to live up to, regardless of how you look. Boogie makes a good point in this video - mucho Kudos to you Boogie!
so i started off watching u with "where's my mountain dew" and thought "wow this guy is funny. there is no way he has a gf" but seeing this stuff makes me feel like tons of women like u cuz u are just so down to earth and great with words. :)
boogie, i love you. you are the best youtuber EVER. pleasev never stop making videos! you bring me up when im down and you help me be more confortable about being different. im a HUGE self consious, 4 foot tall, nerdy 8th grader. so thank you for being there for me.
I understand where you coming from in some aspects, but for one was never picked on, I just love everything fantasy, from role playing to card collecting! In a sense I feel left out or sometimes unrelated to my gamming buddies because of this.
Boogie.....you are a preacher. You preach the religion of tolerance and I absolutely love you for it. Keep doing what your doing; you are most definitely making a difference in the world.
"...Humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate, but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in life forms. […] If we cannot learn to actually enjoy those small differences, to take a positive delight in those small differences between our own kind, here on this planet, then we do not deserve to go out into space and meet the diversity that is almost certainly out there.” ― Gene Roddenberry One of my favorite Roddenberry quotes, and I think Boogie exhibits this most admirable trait quite well not only in this, but in many of his videos.
back in school i was a short thin guy, with red hair and glasses, around when i turned 13 i grew, alot... and that made me a tall skinny guy with red hair and glasses, i got picked on all the time, the way i looked had much to do with it, but also the fact that i did'nt like the same things as the others, and that stuck with me till i started my education, then i got bigger muscles, and learned to not care about what everybody else thought about me.. i know how you must have felt Boggie
*sniff* this is so true and i love that this guy is so awesome that he's doing a video on this props for him i hope that he go up to heaven and be praised by god. *sniff*
very well put! i like to think that people see THEMSELVES as one of two things... normal or different... those who see themselves as normal are the ones who judge others... those who see themselves as different judge themselves...
Very well said boogie. I'm picked on everyday because my coworkers/friends don't understand my attraction to gaming. They don't see how i can sit on my computer for hours on end playing a game, but it's what i love. I'm a geek/nerd i grew up playing D&D with my brothers. Now i sit here and play WoW Neverwinter Call of duty. Too all those that don't understand us, we don't understand you.
I enjoyed this piece. I wish more people could be this honest in real life. I have a feeling you have made a different in someones life whom has seen this. Great Job.
I love you boogie, and I respect your opinion and think that you brought up a very intellectual and well thought out opinion; but, I think that people pick on different individuals based on insecurities and/or lack of understanding for individuality. Some studies show that people are intimidated by differences.
Boogie much respect to you. Your videos help me understand why certain things happen to me. You're a smart man who knows what he's talking about. Thank you.
I have ataxic cerebral palsy. I'm weak. I'm clumsy. I'm slow. I walk weird. I fall a lot. So naturally, I was bullied in middle and high school. And I almost look at my past as a blessing. I have never learned so much from a person behind a camera
Well. Technically, he's in font of a camera
-.-
+Pumpkin Melon (e) LOL
He real boy
This guy, I tip my hat. The only guy to say it how it is.
+Tank Locked Like Donald trump? I'm joking
+Gimme Them Beans Donald Trump is pretty great dude. #FUCKTED
Videos like this, are the reason why Boogie/Steve is my favourite RUclipsr...
AlphaMunky right though
You used to get beat up by jocks for playing video games.
Now, the jocks are also playing video games.
Mysterious Coconut shitty ones tho. I don't give a fuck if you play Minecraft, quarterback.
Nathan Solomon Yeah I play Madden. I won't apologise for it. EA makes me sick, and I wish anyone else made the game but they bought exclusive rights. And I love football, so I don't have any other options for a football game
SkolWorks Edits there's this really cool one, it's not really owned by a single company tho. It's called
Football.
Obviously, but I can't play football when I'm by myself, that's arguably as pathetic as paying sixty bucks for Madden
yeah fortnite, so fuck them anyway.
Being a nerd is fucking awesome.
Blordus Esports are gonna be the next football, give it 3-5 more years m8. ✊✊
u were right ;P

8 years later and I still come back looking at this, my favorite vid with out a doubt.
"Once you accept that you have being different in common, you realise that you're the same as everyone else."
Boogie, you are a true inspiration :)
"And for some people the high school mentality doesn't end." You nailed it on the head. That is incredibly true.
Man I'm so glad I found your channel. I just found out about your Francis videos but going through your channel I saw some enlightening stuff. Keep it up and I'm looking forward to exploring your channel more.

this is what they should show kids in school
To help myself feel better about being different i just decided to live by "normal is boring, so why be boring".
Thats what i say as well
you changed my outlook to the way i see the world!!!
Much Love!!! Thank you!
Holy shit you are such a fucking good speaker.
This is wonderful. So much positivity; "that opened a whole new world for me" - that part gave me goosebumps :)
Boogie, you make me feel better about myself by me watching this video, I have always had different interests than other people (such as paleobiology and earth science) and I feel that no one likes me because of it :( but watching this video of yours makes me feel better, and I love you for that, you have helped me so much :)

Best Francis video ive ever seen. Really heartfelt.
Francis is a made up character XD his actual name is Steven and his Boogie character is the one that reflects him.
yea but i originally heard him called Francis so now its just how i know him. I know which im talking about but i just say Francis
Boogie dude... you opened my eyes. Your explination why someone pickes up somebody makes sense for me.
Hey boogie I just gotta say your videos are amazing! I'm very different and right now I'm prob going through the worst time in my life but your videos can put a smile on my face I can say to myself everything is gonna be ok!
I felt an immediate bond with you bro
Amen
I find it personally inspiring how you maintain a positive open attitude despite your severe challenges. That is why I watch these videos.
The man who rages about his Mountain Dew gave a motivational speech ^_^
I'm guessing you're talking about Francis, a character he's created.
***** hahahah yeah! I know about this guy. He's weirdly cool. Yes at first I thought he was nuts, but when I look more of his videos then I know it was just all an act.
Exactly!!!! That's why I like communicating with other different people. It's interesting.
People who think geeks are losers are the losers!
but then in the second term i randomly saw a group discussing anime in the cafe, and plucked up the courage to talk to them and discovered a whole new community existed, one where i could be myself w/out having to fake it. went to conventions, hell i even cosplayed and really enjoyed it. Everything you said is true, I have 3 really close friends and they are all different , with different passions and I love them for it. I came to the same thoughts in a different way but to me it's the meaning of life, celebrate variety.
"Coming at you life through the power of the internet."
Makes you feel inspired and self-aware right from the start.
You're a wonderful person Boogie, you show that there is hope for people who are picked on and still grow up to be a loving human being.
I've thought about this before and it's very true, it makes me happy to know that there's people out there like you boogie.
Man, I wish had a friend just like you boogie. I wish could spend a whole a day talking with you! Thank you for being awesome.
This is a good inspiration. I've spent most of my life trying to be like someone else, instead of loving the person that I am.
You are one of my new all time hero's. Thank you so much. Your helping me through the hardest times in my life. Thank you. So much.
Boogie, you are truly one of the greatest people and one of my all time youtube favorites I always find your videos so comforting when im depressed, but also soooo damn funny when you want to be!
deffinetly one of those videos out there that not many people make so i aplaud him for making this very heartfelt hope that more people in this indusrty can be like this
Ah god. The days when we didn't know you were a creep.
Dude , im so proud of you. Showing so many people what understanding means is a very great thing :)
you were on an intellectual plain far more complex than the primitive world you were brought into, boogie.
[…] If we cannot learn to actually enjoy those small differences, to take a positive delight in those small differences between our own kind, here on this planet, then we do not deserve to go out into space and meet the diversity that is almost certainly out there.”
― Gene Roddenberry
One of my favorite Roddenberry quotes, and I think Boogie exhibits this most admirable trait quite well not only in this, but in many of his videos.
back in school i was a short thin guy, with red hair and glasses, around when i turned 13 i grew, alot... and that made me a tall skinny guy with red hair and glasses, i got picked on all the time, the way i looked had much to do with it, but also the fact that i did'nt like the same things as the others, and that stuck with me till i started my education, then i got bigger muscles, and learned to not care about what everybody else thought about me.. i know how you must have felt Boggie
tbh, one of the most motivational videos I've ever seen. It made my day. Thanks!
*sniff* this is so true and i love that this guy is so awesome that he's doing a video on this props for him i hope that he go up to heaven and be praised by god. *sniff*
+TheHoly Swordsman why are you sniffing eddinboy. ur so weird.
I meant to have quotes around the sniff
And I wasn't sniffing him I was sniffing at the truth that the guy spoke
This reminds me of a phrase - "There are no normal people, only people you don't know well enough".
Nice video Boogie!
very well put! i like to think that people see THEMSELVES as one of two things... normal or different... those who see themselves as normal are the ones who judge others... those who see themselves as different judge themselves...
Boogie,
Through a lot of your story time videos i reckon you have actually changed my life when i look back, in a good way. Thanks! Lovin your videos!
I enjoyed this piece. I wish more people could be this honest in real life. I have a feeling you have made a different in someones life whom has seen this. Great Job.
I'm exactly like you. Picked on, reading, video games, overweight. You're a role model of mine, Boogie. Keep being different.
Thank you.
