There's nothing quite like getting to hang out and be yourself with old friends, especially now that you're all kind of far-flung. From your gallery tour, what's the name of the artist with the paintbrush @06:11? I find classic self-portraits painted in a mirror fascinating to look at. Speaking of mirror images, it looks like you filmed the painting sequence in this one showing your true right-handedness instead of it being horizontally flipped. I wish everyone filming painting videos would do that. As a lefty, I'm always looking at which hand people are using, and whether the footage is flipped. One thing I enjoy about doing digital art, is to make a rough figure sketch as a layer in the foreground, set it at half opacity, and just like you do in this video, paint the background stuff around the figure first to feel how the layers will interact. Of course, with digital, I usually go nuts and paint all the stuff I know the foreground will cover up. It looks like your painting in progress is going really well. I think the blues and flesh tones of the figure will look great against the more muted tones of the surrounding scene. Great stuff as always!!
Thank you! The name of the artist you asked about is Thomas Barker. It was a really wonderful self portrait. Yes I usually don’t horizontally flip the painting footage segments, just the talking to the camera bits where I use the front camera and always forget to reverse it! Ah yes that technique works great digitally!
Love to watch these kind of video's . May I ask you which kind of panels you use to paint on , I am used to paint on linen or linen canvas panels . Awesome frames you bought for your beautiful artwork . Good luck with the second part of the painting .
Thank you! I paint on wooden panels that I usually get from Jackson’s and prime myself with clear gesso. I haven’t painted on linen too much but I think I prefer a smoother surface.
Hey Izzy! Love your videos and very excited to see your new painting once it’s finished. May I ask where you get your frames from? They suit your paintings so well!
Thank you for the art therapy:) Do you use the thirds rule for faces? There’s a Gwen John portrait in York gallery - its so “beautifully quiet” if that makes sense.
Yes I always keep the rule of thirds in mind, I find it’s the most useful measurement. Oh I’d love to see it! Yes that describes the feeling of her work perfectly
Thank you! Yes I can recommend🥹 Yes these frames were custom made by Brampton Picture Framing. Ordered through their website, they’ve got some really great options.
