This is one of my favourite interviews with any musician on RUclips. Newell is so intelligent and has such an amazing story. I've come back to this many times.

In the mid 90's a friend handed me a copy of "Greatest Living Englishman". To this day its one of my favorit records of all time.

I saw Plod ( I think ) supporting Stray at Cambridge Corn Exchange. Many years later Martin and l appeared at the same venues. He is a superb performer! Sending great vibes from Colchester Central.

Thank you. We did indeed support Stray, who were heroes of mine in the early 70s, even though their members were barely older than fans like me. It was actually at Cromer Links Pavilion in about April 1974 that Plod supported them. After I wrote my memoir, This Little Ziggy, to my amazement I was visited by Gary Giles, Stray's bassist. Other big Stray fans whom I later met included XTC's Colin Moulding and my learned colleague Captain Sensible.

I saw Plod at The Technical College in Sheepen Road l think. I deffo know l saw them! I read Ziggy in Southport over a weekend. I also recently watched your method of song writing which was very interesting - and your reference to Elton John being able to put music to words. Sent him some of mine in 1989 and was amazed that he took the time to reply! He was working exclusively with Bernie Taupin though at that stage.
Very pleased to hear you were well cared for in respect of your vision.
Have always admired your mode of working.
There is a great deal of respect for that from people who you may never have been aware of!
