Not OVERHEAD as you say, electric power is supplied via third rail 750V DC through third rail at the side of the tracks!!!! Not having overhead has several advantages. It lets you have a smaller tunnel and thereby cost savings during construction for the underground section. For overhead you need a larger tunnel as Delhi Metro to accomodate the overhead traction and catenary system. Also DC allows for faster start up and the train can reach its maximum speed faster. Delhi Metro using overhead traction uses AC traction as does the Railways which is very good for hauling heavy loads which is NOT the situation that arises in Metro rail where the coaches are lightweight Aluminium and also just people and not heavy freight.
