Yes! My very first deck. 💕 Part of me wishes I had started with the classic RWS because sometimes I STILL after 20 years often stumble with the numerology aspect of tarot after having the Mythic tarot as my foundational deck. But having it as my first deck really did (as you say) give me a very cerebral, deep-thinking connection with tarot, which for me is a good thing because I love research and weird esoterica. It also REALLY set the tone for my relationship to Deity as a witch and a spiritual person in general. Mostly because of my work with this deck in my formative years, I have always found spiritual connection to deity and to archetype themes to be pretty easy to accomplish. I adore this deck. I’ve gifted the New Mythic to a lot of people despite the faces not being as expressive as in the OG Mythic deck. I honestly think if I had never GOTTEN the original, the artwork of the New wouldn’t bother me so much, so I don’t think people are missing out too much by getting the less expensive New Mythic version.
The original guidebook does explain the creator’s alternate ordering (and decision to not number) the cards of the major arcana. I believe in a subsequent edition of the guidebook, the table of contents may have ordered them traditionally. Refer to the introduction chapter, then the 2nd subheading “The Mythic Tarot”. The 2nd paragraph starting with “Although many versions of the major arcana are numbered...”, and you will find the explanation there. I am not lucky enough to own a copy of this beautiful vintage (OOP) deck, but I do have a fool’s dog app which comes with a full-unabridged digital edition of the cards and guidebook. It’s costs about 3.99 USD. The Greek myths behind the card/character choices are included in the guidebook - they are spot-on choices, and the stories area brilliantly told. I understand why the guidebook gets such great reviews. I would love to own a copy of the deck and guidebook someday, but I’m not willing to pay the second-hand prices I see advertised. The app is the next best thing, I suppose. ☺️
I love listening to you describe how you integrate different decks into various readings. The way you explain your reasoning is a very helpful learning tool. You explain your process very organically to where I sense intuition is an important ingredient for you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills. Blessed be.
I have the original 1986 deck of The Mythic Tarot. Such a great deck to work with. Thank you for shwoing the Color Mage Oracle deck - I think I will try and get one of those to accompany my Mythic Tarot deck.
Ha, weird about the book! I have a 2001 printing of the "old" Mythic (dark blue/purple ish backs with yellow scoll edge that ends up asymmetrical when you trim them), and that has the usual order in the book. The myths are fun to read and add a interesting extra layer, but I find the images are interesting and talkative enough to be read on their own
Have you read Stephen Fry's Mythos? Really great read! He also has Heros, which covers more on Hercules, Jason and other Greek heroes. Just got my copy of the 1986 version of this deck and loving it. 😁
Hi and Thank you I have this deck for over 4 years '86 version but had not really gone deeper into its structure and strategy But yesterday I was compelled by a calling up of The 5 of cups To allow it to have The say as to Its interpretation of The 5 of cups I pulled 3swords 9swords 6pentacles justice high priestess And so today I come to your site for the precise sort of "conversation" that u gave Now I Will do a study month Ps- I think they were mating the high priestess with the heirophant
Thank you for sharing! Very insightful as usual, and I loved the deck pairing ideas at the end! I have the Santa Muerte Tarot and the Dark Mirror Oracle that I'm unsure about, but I will do the time (lol) at some point to figure out what to do with them.
I have a 1996 printing of the Mythic Tarot and I really love it. But my relationship with my deck is still quite surface level. It was interesting to hear what you were saying about the guidebook because I personally find it a bit much, it’s so very wordy. But I think it’s fairly accurate to say that it’s not a deck you can just slap cards down and do a reading in ten mins. You gave me pause though, and made me think that maybe I should spend a month or two with it.
It IS very wordy and reads more dry than I prefer (the guidebook that is) but it had so many gems of wisdom I discovered when working with it for a month!
I also got my deck in 1996 and it's a relief to find out others have stumbled with it. I've studied both Classical mythology and psychology but have issues with doing fluid readings. And never unaided lol. In retro I probably should have started with the Ryder Waite deck, but I always liked the Mythic tarot better cause of the mythology and visuals
This was really inspiring....I have one of the early 2000s copies of the Mythic Tarot and I love it (and agree the guidebook is WONDERFUL) but I feel like I don’t reach for it enough and spending a good solid amount of time with it would be a good exercise. Loved seeing your pairings too! 💖
I've had my Mythic deck since 1986 and I still love it but this is my first time seeing The color mage oracle. Can you tell me where I can find the Color Mage Oracle deck to purchase?
Thanks You for this Review! I think i Will start with the app of the mythic tarot. The 30 second mythic book looks interesting too! Can You please do a depth Review on the witches wisdom tarot?? 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
I loooooove the look of this deck but I don’t feel confident enough yet...Aphrodite!!! Ahhhh! I came back to this video today because I was thinking about you earlier! I was on Kickstarter & found a beautiful deck that I had to know if u have seen yet...it’s The Chakra Healing Tarot? It’s really beautiful & I usually vibe & roll w/ pretty much most of the decks u like...I guess that’s why I am wondering watcha think.
Okay as the video goes on I am getting excited just hearing all the characters in this deck! I think I’m going to research for the same kind of mythical stuff in a deck but more beginner friendly....
I have a similar experience with the Kier's egiptian tarot. It's not easy to read with cause I'm not familiar with egiptian simbology the way I am with western decks. The guidebook is quite unfufilling, and just thinking on doing the amount of research I imagine it's gonna require of me overwhelms me a lot. Maybe some day, though?
I think if I'm not interested enough to WANT to give it a month or more of study, then it's probably not a deck that's meant for me... but your mileage may vary!!
I get overwhelmed easily by bigger projects, it's not actually to do with this deck specifically. But I've heard someone made some sort of detailed study guide for it. I might look into it more soon...
Oh wow, earlier today I commented on your february faves video about how I'm looking forward to this video and just few hours later it's here yay! :D I'm probably gonna write comment during the watching so it might be a bit of mess. Now right from the beginning I got confused with different order of Major Arcana cards, like I never actually noticed?? :D Probably because I never really knew how they go one after another. But I think it's mentioned few times in explanations to particular cards that Major Arcana sort of represents Fool's journey (well as it does everywhere else I guess?) and so this order is just how it seems logical for such journey for the two authors. (Well, obviously... I probably didn't manage to express what I had on my mind. As usual. Oh well). Oh back to a note you mentioned at the very beginning that you don't think it's quite a deck for beginners. As for me it actually helped me understand Tarot more thanks to the myths depicted on the cards. I can't say I would be able to read cards without a guidebook at any time or that I understand all cards, but the Greek myths here just somehow did the trick for me to see the story behind and so understand more (sometimes) the message it's trying to tell me. Which is kind of funny since I actually don't know that much about greek mythology, though it's been... like part of my (our)... education? If I could say so. (I already tried to express this in the comment to some of your previous videos mentioning this tarot, not sure which one, when I was also telling about how I got it and so, so I won't repeat that here). Maybe you're not much told about greek mythology in Canada (America generally?) as we are here in Europe so maybe that's what makes it more easy for me compared to you. (Hermes is Magician not Fool, you have it right in the book just got mistaken when mentioning it by the Judgement card... (sorry this was probably totally unnecessary comment lol)) (It doesn't say King of Wand would have a beard while not having it in my guidebook. It's translation though I'm not sure they would actually check the look while translating. Well, never mind, another unnecessary comment. :D)) Glad to hear you enjoyed working with the deck! And I'm surprised to hear that it taught you a lot too even though you're working with tarot for so many years! I mean of course there's still something new to learn but you said you could learn a lot in a way that sounded like really really a lot which surprised me. (does the sentence make any sense? probably not, sorry, I'm really bad at trying to express things though I'm doing my best)
I did learn a bit about greek mythology in school (I went to school in the US though)... but my memory for stuff like that isn't great unless i'm SUPER invested in/interested in the topic. Ooof... Yah it wasn't the first time I called the fool Hermes LOLLLLL so good catch. And yes! :) I think most decks I spend time with teach me something new... gosh the Tarot is such a vast subject, I hope I'm ALWAYS learning more and more!!
I was obsessed with this deck and tracked one down... and haven't used it yet! 🤦🏻♀️ I enjoyed Mythos by Stephen Fry to get to know some of the stories.
Wow several recommendations for that book in these comments! Annnnd the kindle version was on sale for $3.99 LOL so i bought it. :D We'll see when I get around to reading it! LOL
I received this in a box set in the 80s with a cloth and that guide book in hard cover format. It was hard to hold open while reading cards so i ditched it. I still have the cloth though. For the longest time I thought I had a Rider Waite deck.
With all due respect, I have the deck the original that I bought in the early '90s.... Anybody that has that deck has the book and we can read from it for ourselves. If you have an interpretation of your own, that would be nice to hear. Why listen to what you read from a book when we can do that ourselves. Again, with all due respect 💕
My unpopular opinion - the New Mythic is much better than the original version. The symbology on the New Mythic is much better than the old version and I use the New Mythic professionally. I'm picky about the decks I use for other people so that's a statement right there.
DON'T WATCH THE PERCY JACKSON MOVIES lol they're not worth it and the more you watch it, the less sense they make even if you completely ignore the books lol I think they're making a tv show on disney+ and Rick Riordan seems like he'll have a lot more creative control, so hopefully that will be a lot better lol
This is my soul deck ❤️❤️ the 1986 version! I started playing with my moms version when I was little so much fun watching you talk about it!
This is one of my top 5 decks. The way the suits tell the myth cycles just works so well - as Tarot and as mythology.
Yes! My very first deck. 💕 Part of me wishes I had started with the classic RWS because sometimes I STILL after 20 years often stumble with the numerology aspect of tarot after having the Mythic tarot as my foundational deck.

Yes you make great points about the New Mythic... if it weren't for the comparison, it wouldn't probably be perceived the way it often is! :D

Ooooooh interesting! Well I guess they sorted it out then! LOL

I have not!! :) Is it a mythology book or a fiction inspired by mythology?
Hi and Thank you
I have this deck for over 4 years

But yesterday I was compelled by a calling up of
The 5 of cups
To allow it to have

high priestess
And so today I come to your site for the precise sort of "conversation" that u gave
Now I Will do a study month
Ps- I think they were mating the high priestess with the heirophant
Hi Lisa, can you tell us again the questions for that 2 card spread you’re explaining here?
Thank you for sharing! Very insightful as usual, and I loved the deck pairing ideas at the end!
I have the Santa Muerte Tarot and the Dark Mirror Oracle that I'm unsure about, but I will do the time (lol) at some point to figure out what to do with them.
I never could get on with either of those but they're both objectively cool!
I have a 1996 printing of the Mythic Tarot and I really love it. But my relationship with my deck is still quite surface level. My first deck. Still love it!
Thanks You for this Review! I think i Will start with the app of the mythic tarot. The 30 second mythic book looks interesting too! Can You please do a depth Review on the witches wisdom tarot?? 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
I will add the Witches Wisdom Deep Dive to my list!! :)
It's interesting that this deck has Cupid and Psychic as the cups because in The Lover's Path tarot they're the swords
Oooh I don't have that one, and that IS interesting. I could see them as Swords too, given the push/pull of that story!
I loooooove the look of this deck but I don’t feel confident enough yet...Aphrodite!!! Ahhhh!

Prepare to hate the movie since you're watching it after reading the books.
Percy Jackson, I mean.
I'm ridiculously easy to please when it comes to movies. Also, I've already seen it - I just can't remember it LOL
@@Lisa_Papez Haha, that's fair!
About watching the movie, well I guess, if getting mad at movies is your thing? I mean, if I remember right not even Rick riordan likes it hahaha
Oh no LOL Well I mean.... I have REALLY low standards for movies sooooooo it might be fine? LOL I'll definitely report back if/when I watch it!
