  • Knot tying video tutorial. Learn how to make a Chinese button knot. Easy step by step instructions for tying a Chinese button knot in this simple guide.
The Chinese button knot or Chinese ball knot is knot #599 in The Ashley Book of Knots (ABoK). It was worn as a functional button throughout China. It can either be tied flat or in the hand as demonstrated here. When tied in the hand it is tied in a similar fashion the the diamond knot or knife lanyard knot which it closely resembles. It can also be tied with two cords or strings.
Uses: Functional button for clothing. Could be used as a zipper pull. Can be used as an ornamental knot to finish off a paracord survival bracelet or key fob or other knotted jewelery.

Thank you so much! This is the easiest way I have seen to do this knot. Making 8 Chinese inspired shirts, and needed to make 40 of these. This video made it super easy and fast.

This is similar to diamond knot, only this knot doesn't go behind the 2 stands then to come up through the middle if im right?

Very similar but not quite the same as a diamond knot.

    Can this be doubled?

Very late to this comment, but if you hold two strands in your fingers instead of the one, you get a doubled knot. Just be careful when dressing the knot you keep the strands neat and it looks pretty decent. A good time to check the strands are nicely placed is at 1.24 in the video where the carricks bend is formed.
