I stopped shopping at Target when they decided to allow men in the women's restrooms.
I like the way they process returns at Target vs Walmart. It takes a few seconds to return at Target with my red card. At Walmart I always feel like I could jump over the counter, fill out an application, get hired, and do my own return faster. The only large store available in our small town is Walmart. I must drive about 50 miles for the nearest Target. Therefore, my trips to Target are usually escapism. 😂
If you have the Walmart app, all your purchases show up on the app and you just pull it up and they scan it…super simple now…
Amen. The service at Target is better but there is a price for it, for sure, e.g. higher prices overall.
You got that right 😂
A lot of stuff that gets returned to stores ends up in landfill. Not trying to make you feel bad, but it's something I learnt in the last few years. Also in places like Aldi, the stuff in the middle aisle etc, if someone pulls it out its packaging or something (like a blanket etc) would just end up in the bin. Made me so sad. But also I now think 'do I need this?' AND if I changed my mind do I think the store will take the time to repackage and resell it, and if not am I happy for it end up in landfill. And if not then I don't get it (definitely has helped save me from a couple of implies purchases!) X
I'm with you on Wal-Mart returns. I have found an easy way - I have my kids/grandkids do it, the process doesn't bother them a bit!
Ladies clothes @Target have NOT been any good since they lost the Merona brand. Those items, at least for me, have definitely stood the test of time. My favorite pieces for work and play are still my Merona Target clothes from almost 10 years ago. Anytime I have bought things at Target since, especially sweaters, I get up to 10 washes out of them, but that’s about it. Happy shopping, everyone.
Yes I agree! I’m sad that their clothing has gone downhill so much. Many of the new clothes get holes in them after a wear or two, so I don’t buy them anymore and haven’t in 2 years
Totally agree! I have had several Merona brand pieces that have lasted years
Ditto! And the Circo kids clothes were sized much better and had better cloth and stitching than Cat and Jack
I love Target! I do get things are more expensive, but the atmosphere and helpfulness of the employees always draw me back. When I go to Walmart it is so chaotic and never an employee in sight to ask about a product.
I get the opposite reaction! Target staff are snobbish, snooty & they ignore many people! Yes, Walmart can be chaotic at times but more willing to help!
I thought I was the only one that thought Target was overpriced. Everyone that I know raves about Target. Ahhhh....I feel so much better. They have to have a really good sale before I purchase there.
I can't remember the last time I was in Target. Funny, I couldn't wait for it to open.
Target is my jam! Way cheaper and more pleasant than Walmart. Much better quality too. After watching this I have to wonder if different targets vary with pricing. Ours is amazing and very cheap!
I don’t think different targets have different pricing - at least not much difference. We went to Maui for almost 2 weeks and the grocery stores were much higher priced than mainland (over double). Then we went to Target and everything was the same price. Even down the the 2 pack of target brand toothbrushes. Groceries were the same price as mainland too. Costco still had $1.50 hotdog combos 🤣
I thought everyone knew Target was more expensive 😆 The exception could be if they're running a sale or promotion on something that week.
It’s really not. The groceries in my local and national groceries stores in the area are almost double that of the groceries at my Target.
This was the video I needed to admit what I already “knew”. Target isn’t good for me anymore. Thanks for always trying to help us, Dawn!
Same. The truth was always staring me in the face... the price tags that is. Now I have confirmation.
Right? Dawn is on point!
I feel the saame way about Kohl's. Unless you keep using coupons which is annoying the prices are so high. 50.00 for a pair of reg gloves, 30 for a cotton tee. Sure with Kohl's money and 30% off, it's less but why do that? I'd rather just have prices lower to begin with or get things on a real sale.
Same! I went for the first time since last September just two days ago, and I’m returning that one item. Ugh. I just go to TJ Maxx for random things.
When Target revamped their clothing lines and got rid of Mossimo, Merona and Xhiliration, they lost my clothing budget.
Kids clothes though, are still a win. Cat and Jack has a 1 year warranty with receipt! I've never used it, but it's a great thing to stand behind your products that way!
Agreed! I still have some Mossimo stuff that I love and that has lasted!
I used to love shopping at Target but I’ve noticed the decrease in quality and a big increase in prices! It’s interesting though that Walmart has upped their game in quality and style but their prices are still good. 🤷🏻♀️ My teen/tween girls and I still like shopping for bras at Target as well as bins. Oh! Those bins that you like were 50% off at my Target yesterday!! I went in to get one and was pleasantly surprised.
I like their bras as well. I am a 40 or 42DDD and they have nice, supportive, and not grandma like bras. And they are cheaper than Victoria's Secret by far.
The only thing I go to Target for is bras. For some reason they always have bras that fit me, and they're reasonably priced.
Everything else seems overpriced, though.
Prices are increased everywhere. Any store you walk into. Including Walmart with its terrible practices
I'm so glad I'm not the only woman in the world who isn't obsessed with Target!! 😂 The only thing I get there are my son's diapers (because the Walmart brand didn't work for him) and some Seventh Generation cleaning products (because Walmart doesn't carry them) so I always do Drive Up and never have to set foot in the store!
Same here. Haha. I also buy that stuff at target too.
We don't have Target/Walmart here in Denmark....and also I don't want to by anything, that other people have....
I'm not. I shop there more now than I have in years but just because it's super close and I like checking out the dollar spot and clearance.
Do you have an Aldi near you? I found their diapers to be the cheapest and best I ever used!
I have a rule that I do not get sucked into their promotions and purchase extras to earn a gift card at target. Usually it’s overpriced and I don’t really need the products anyway
Thank you SO MUCH for validating that Target’s women’s clothing do not last. So many of my girl friends love their clothes that I feel like I must be crazy!
Glad you shared this video.Ive always thought it was just my opinion... I never shop at Target only because I can shop elsewhere cheaper and I don't feel the quality of their products are any better either. Thanks for sharing.
Yep. If I'm going to buy stuff from China it's going to be at the lowest price, Walmart.
The only reason I go there is for their beauty deals. Sometimes you can get a $5 gift card if you buy 3 hair dyes. I always stock up. It used to be buy 2 get a card… I think there may be deals if you use their app too. I’m often amazed they’re still open as I see so few other shoppers there. I find them too woke - & expensive - for me.
@@Teal_Seal yes to too woke as well!
@@joannafoster3423 Absolutely agree! That’s why I shop at thrifts too. Not buying it first hand, I feel like maybe I’m not helping China get any fatter off of us.
@@bonnierainwater4484 yep. I do that as often as I can as well.
I’m pretty happy I haven’t stepped foot in a Target in over three years! Now that I’m retired, on a fixed income and gas and food are $$$, I shop at Walmart, the Dollar Store and Grocery Outlet for the most part. I’m still working on decluttering but shopping for fun and impulse buys are no longer part of my life. Thanks to this channel!!
Yes! I miss Grocery Outlet & Winco so much (currently stationed overseas)!!
I love the Target bedding, too! I got an organic sheet set from the Hearth and Home line and gosh, it's awesome.
Yes! Best bedding. We discovered linen sheets at Target and haven't gone back. They've machine washed & dried beautifully. 🙌🏼
I love Target! I weekly buy my bread, eggs and milk there due to low prices on those items. I usually do pick up (I call it the Chick-Fil-A of pick up because it's the best service!). I also use their circle app to get deals. When shopping school supplies between Wal-Mart and Target-I got mostly better deals at Target! I like how clean their store feels and that they have hand sanitizer at the self check outs, entrances and exits (it's the little things!). I mostly grocery shop between them and Sam's Club. You do have to watch what you are buying and always check around! I bought a kids play kit from them one time and found it $5 less at Hobby Lobby (the same kit). Overall, I love Target!
Good point. They do great “loss leaders” in the grocery section.
I have found having a red card & using target circle, more than half the time things are cheaper than at Wal-Mart. I sit & online shop at both at the same time. I also live in a beta market, so I got to use target circle & the old red perks for quite a while before it came out to the rest of the US and have saved over $900 in the past 4ish years. Sometimes they will offer, multiple times a month, spend $60 get a $10 gift card or other reward bonuses. Right now I’ve got $30 sitting in my wallet on the app that I got for making three purchases within a certain amount of time. But I get a lot of people don’t have time to sit & spend the time it takes to shop in that specific way.
Shop Aldi for food
Good to know I'm not alone. I've never been a Target shopper. Always felt like they were overpriced.
Same here, I never understood the hype over Target. I love Marshalls, Ross and TJ Max much better for clothes and decor and Walmart and Aldi for food shopping
so interesting you released this today. I need a dress and could not find one at the Thrift Store or Nordstrom Rack(Had a gift card) so I tried Target today. 95% percent of the clothes were from China. Dont get me started: loss of American jobs, human rights violations, poor quality. I went to TJ Maxx which is a mix, but I found a dress, Made In USA on sale and I noticed all the beautiful baskets and bedding.
We are pretty much the same but I don’t shop Walmart at all ever so I still buy some kids clothes at Target. I just look for basics and clearance. We’ve had the same bedding for about 8 years from there and definitely hold up great! Years ago I would walk out with cart full on “accident“ but now it’s much easier to only get what I need and just walk away from the rest.
Yeah, when my niece was born, we'd buy her the new "Target collection" because compared to Nordstrom, the baby clothes are pretty well made, stylish, and our minds were blown when we saw most items were like $5, lol.
They have the best bedding!
Agreed. Target clothes seem to last way longer than Walmart clothes. Among other items. That being said, it doesn't last years that we'd like to get out of it. But for kids who grow, I definitely buy clothing here
I used to spend two hours roaming through Target, and then one day I had an epiphany too--I realized that any time I decluttered, the bulk of what I got rid of was clothing and decor I got from Target. Now I get in and get out...and have learned what things they carry that I can't get elsewhere and that are good deals like this one type of cat food and certain paper products. No longer contemplating clothing, etc. has made such decisions so much easier! And I laughed at the products you did recommend because I was like--they do have good bedding there! I love how you're so real and do buy things...but with guidelines. So glad I came across your channel!
I can't even remember the last time I shopped at Target! I know people who love it but I've always found its more expensive than other stores, too. I think Target has turned itself into a department store and I just have other time/money priorities. Thanks for the video Dawn! It was a great confirmation for me.
I’ve been keeping a price list for several things I buy frequently - like printer ink, my hair color, contact lens solutions, Kleenex, cleaners I like, etc. - between Target, Walmart, Bed Bath Beyond, and Kroger. Looking at my list, Target comes out cheapest for pretty much everything (although some things are the same price at Walmart).
Agreed. Especially if you use the debit redcard and target circle
I LOVE TARGET! It continues to exceed my expectations with so many extra service options added in recent years! I am someone who manages a chronic health problem and the extra services help simplify my life and me allow me to conserve physical energy. I Love their variety and quality of merchandise. The clothing also has something I recently have been been purchasing. I find up to date options and quality materials. I always leave Target feeling good after picking up my purchases. The staff are always happy and professional when they put my order in my car.
This is a smart thing to do!
I’ve done this same thing and I get the same result. You have to look at the quantity and quality of the product you are getting as well. But I’m mostly comparing same products.
Ive seen the opposite. Our target is so much more expensive on almost everything especially household goods and grocery items.
As a Canadian, Target really boils my blood; years ago they did a hostile take over of a beloved Canadian brand store (Zellers). They laid off ALL the staff and opened a bunch of Targets at the old locations paying minimum wage. Then they priced everything wayyy above what targets charged in the USA (not just the currency exchange rate, but massive markups as many of us are familiar with USA targets when we go into the USA). It’s like they thought we were stupid!! Anyway everyone boycotted them and they went bankrupt in Canada and pulled out. Good riddance !
Actually that is not entirely true. Zeller's was in really bad shape before Target even arrived on the scene. And they didn't take over their stores. Target made a huge mistake in understanding the Canadian market and didn't offer products that Canadians wanted.. That was their downfall.
@@nanascorner4586 Agreed. As someone who was in the industry, one of the big things that was their downfall was their inventory system. They didn’t know how to run it properly. Without getting into the nitty gritty, they thought it was a plug in and play. It wasn’t. The company I work for, as well as some others use it (think: trading striped blankets hundreds of years ago) without problems. This is why they had tonnes of new product at liquidation time- it had been sitting in the warehouses, unknown to them. But I love their bedding! 😂
Not sure where you are both from in Canada, but in BC they directly occupied all of the Zellers stores in the greater Vancouver Region and fired all their staff. Zellers was in bad shape comparatively to previous years, but during that time most major department stores were in similar boats. The target acquisition finished them.
I’m still bitter about that. Our Zellers store was getting old but the staff was so nice and there was a good selection of products
They have terrible morals now, and way too expensive!!
I quit shopping there because of some of their social standings...I haven't missed it.
Target is too woke for me… I’m out and I’m sure they don’t care…🤷🏼♀️
which store do you shop at?
You're right. Bigots aren't missed.
Man we’ve has COMPLETELY different experiences at Target. I’ve bought several furniture pieces that I’ve had for years and years and are incredible and hefty pieces. Same with dollar spot. I’m super picky at the dollar spot and have found some incredible deals especially on the acrylic pieces and rope baskets.
We have saved about $150 per week switching all our shopping to target!
Same!! We have living room chairs and a bedframe from Target that I *love* (also my clothes!).
Things I buy frequently at Target are bedding and towels. I feel like they have good quality for the price. In terms of non-essentials, I really love their lamps (also good quality for the price), love the Hearth and Hand home decor line and they also seem to have similar prices to Amazon on books. Target is a little bit of escapism for me...the atmosphere there is so pleasant. Going to Wal-Mart is better for my wallet but it also just raises my blood pressure.
I agree while the prices are definitely overpriced I do enjoy a walk- around, it’s all so clean and orderly.. it’s peaceful there.
Lol. So funny. Target is such a different atmosphere. Walmart does feel chaotic, messy, etc.
Agreed! I feel the same way. I’d rather feel at peace than save a few bucks. Glad I’m not alone!
@Pretti Pati yes in comparison Walmart is cheaper but here in the Northeast NJ even Walmart now is overpricing, maybe I’m feeling it more now since I’m retired lol
Like others commenting here I like Target for its pleasant atmosphere and cleanliness, but I don't shop there frequently. The only time I will shop at Walmart is for a couple products I know I can't find anywhere else. At most I go to Walmart 2 or 3 times a year.
Great advice.
I have found it helpful to not shop in person. I rather buy online and physically pick up. Keeps me within my budget.
Everything has gone up in price. Got back from Costco and I am in a bit of a shock. Definitely a good time to go back to basics.
Not buying WORKOUT CLOTHES until you actually WORK OUT 💪🏻 is on POINT!
How many of us by all the gear and then never ever do it. At least I’ve done that.
My favorite part about Target bedding, is the tags on the fitted sheets that say "top/bottom". Sounds silly, but saves me struggling to figure out how to put the fitted sheet on the mattress.
Sometimes the aisle end caps have hidden deals, especially on gift bags.
I live in a place that doesn't have a WalMart nearby (closest is over 40 miles away). Target can be better than some places vs. driving so far (and cost of gas, time) to go to WalMart.
When I wanted to start exercising I purchased 3 workout tanks from a thrift store. One of them fit me perfectly. Once I made the habit I ordered duplicate tanks from ThredUP now I have a great habit AND a weeks worth of workout tanks and only spent $2-$8 on each tank!
Now I wash my workout clothes every 8-9 days in one load.
I have chosen not to shop at Target since they allow men in the ladies restrooms. To me it isn't family friendly, I wouldn't want to take a chance of my granddaughter being in the RR and a man walks in! Along with that, yes their prices are high! I am just fine not shopping there!!
I know Target isn't a discount store, but it's a one-stop shop and I love the drive-up pickup option.
I've actually been comparing my local target to local walmart prices and they have been much more comparable than ever before! & I get 5% off because I have a Target debit card. I also try to stack their coupons/circle offers, etc and usually end up saving money, as long as its things we need and we aren't impulse spending! My husband can also get target gift cards through a work incentive, so we tend to shop their toy deals around Christmas time and they usually end up coming up as better deals than Amazon/Walmart. I do agree with a lot of what you said though! Their clothes don't seem to last, their dollar spot stuff rarely lasts/works for more than a season or so. Walmart has stepped up their game big time style wise and everything is much more affordable.
I agree with you! If you watch their sales, gift card deals and with the 5% off using my Target debit card, I spend less at Target. I have actually done lots of comparisons with online grocery orders and Target wins. Some things are more expensive at Walmart and some things more expensive at Target. If you roll over your gift card deals, it is a nice way to lower your household supply expenses.
BUT I love Target! It is the best!
Target is the same price or cheaper if you get their generic brand. It’s also a much more pleasant experience than Walmart. Plus their drive up is super efficient!
@@amandaroinila1455 agreed. Not to mention they treat their employees better and are inclusive. They are care about the environment and have so many more natural brands
Agree!! I get so many things cheaper at Target than anywhere else! With circle, Ibotta etc
Buying clothes in general from anywhere gets curbed from me by always knowing my current inventory. I keep a list in my phone of how many of each category I have, so when I see a cute shirt etc. I check to see how many I already have and walk away and give the decision time to run its course.
This is brilliant! I'm going to start a list on my phone too!
I totally agree! I rarely go into Target anymore and am astonished at how Walmart has upped their game in certain items. I know a lot of places have limited quantity during and after covid, but Targets was so limited and a lot of the clothes for kids were non-gender specific and emblems or saying that I did not want. Sometimes you want just a really cute outfit for your daughter and that is okay. I have seen so many women wearing the tiered dresses from Walmart in all different colors and they are so cute!!
I love Target! So much cheaper than Cub or Coborn’s. Great sales too!! I also use Target circle and save with all those coupons and I get 5 percent off all my purchases using my Target CC. As a teacher I also received 15% off all school supplies and school related items, that was awesome! I have seen prices much higher everywhere right now! I must admit, I don’t like Walmart and only go there when I need to. I agree reward yourself by starting the habit first! Good tip…and using the dollar store to stock up on gift wrapping and cards.
I love target and also would tell myself that it was so much cheaper because of circle and red card. But I also know that anytime I step into that store I'm gonna spend so much more on impulse buys that will just end up breaking or getting decluttered. I know coborns is a bit more but I know I'm still saving a bunch by going there and sticking to my list. Worst case scenario if target is the only place I can get something, drive up!
I just bought a $30 lamp at Target. They do have some good stuff!
I have only been in Target a few times. I found out several years ago that they will not hold jobs for our military, so I refuse to shop there. This has saved me a lot of money when I see RUclipsrs show cute things from the Dollar Spot, but now you've convinced me I'm not missing out. Great video! 😃
What do you mean they don't hold jobs for the military? Like holding the position for a person whose deployed? I thought that was protected by law👀
That is soo illegal, but speaking from experience (not with target but somewhere else), what a company will do is just cut your hours down to nothing. So you’re technically still employed.
@@gtman143 Yes. Home Depot is the same way. So, I don't shop there either.
@@zoethehuntingcorgi1153 This was years ago that I heard Target & Home Depot didnt hold jobs for our military,, so maybe their policy has changed. Not sure.
Wow I didn't know they wouldn't hire military. I've hated target for numerous reasons for a long time, that just adds another lol good grief.
It is very difficult to actually "shop your conscience" but Target is one of those stores that we have quit shopping at and I am so glad. We had already nearly cut it out but felt there were a few things we would go back to Target to look for. Now that we have completely just stopped going there I am so glad. I didn't realize how much that store gives me anxiety. I do realize it when we go to the "big" Wal-marts but we shop the Marketplace ones the most and so it is so much better.
You’re not alone!
Yes, I stopped shopping at Target too. I just don't go to many stores anymore.
Yes!
I boycotted Target at the beginning of a June as well.
I started boycotting Target when they kicked out the Salvation Army. I have only been in the store 2 or 3 times out of necessity since then.
Before that, I was getting unhappy with their habit of eliminating products that I used to buy there regularly. They didn’t just eliminate certain brands of products, they eliminated the lines of products entirely.
Their womens pj sets are the one thing I will buy from target, it’s $21 for top and bottom and they are so soft and have lasted me years. Elsewhere is lower quality or $20 per item. So as much as I don’t Want to shop at target that is one thing I have gotten consistently through the years !
Good to know this - I’m in need and was debating some at Target the other day wondering how they would hold up. I usually go to Soma and they aren’t cheap unless I catch a sale and then they are more reasonable.
I agree on the pjs. Mine have held up very well too.
Same! I just got a couple matching sets for postpartum this fall. They were half off on clearance from last winter.
I agree with the PJs, AND also like the tank tops and T-shirts by the brand A New Day…the tanks and Ts are under $10 and good quality for the money, the white ones aren’t super see-through, and no shrinking!
I get the Dr Teals Epsom salts. The price is within pennies of Amazon so I usually get a few bags when I’m picking up my Rx. 🙂. I also have a 60” round kitchen table and have a hard time finding 70”+ table cloths. The prices at Target are better than what I’ve found online. ☺️
I shop at Target for convenience (closest to my house) and almost exclusively use Drive-Up now which helps me only buy what I actually need. Can't get the dollar spot on drive-up but I find most of that stuff to be lower quality and unnecessary for me anyway.
I love the kids clothes at Target, when I can get a shirt for $4-$6 and am able to pass it down to my two other kids...yeah that's a good deal to me!
We’ve stopped shopping at Target altogether because they support really ungodly agendas in the political sphere and are a little too “woke” for my particular values. Great video as always! 💕
Thank you for saying this. I have refrained from commenting on their unGodly agenda because I knew Dawn liked them, but I wish more people would not support anything that goes against their moral compass, whatever it is.
I had to try to explain certain things to my young children - a conversation I did want to have at that moment - due to their marketing. Not a fan!
Wow because they promote treating everyone kindly and fairly? Much as Jesus did and promoted. I’ll never understand this thought process.
They treat their employees really well. ie. A decent living wage, benefits and flexible schedules for parents and students. How terrible.
@@rachelcrossen8136 having a daughter in the military, I don’t support Target because they don’t support our military.
Oh my goodness, finally! I keep hearing everyone going on about Target, but everything there has always been so much higher than at Walmart. I will say, their bedding and decor is much better than Walmart, but TJMaxx, Marshall's, etc. are even better and cheaper than Target.
Better homes & garden line at Walmart is good! My bedding lasts a long time & good quality on the household items!
100% agree! As someone who was paid well to merchandise for Target, it was may job to make things look appealing down to the positions of the lighting every day. This list is so accurate. Some things are worth the price but most are not. I’m so glad you shared this!
I stopped shopping there in June when they started selling breast binders in the girls section.
Relax.
I stopped gift bags a few years back as I felt they were wasteful and expensive. We now just have a roll of recyclable brown paper and some lovely stamps to add decoration. It suits us for the whole year around (including Xmas).
Love that
Decades ago an interior designer friend shared a great idea - buy a HUGE roll of " professional " white wrapping paper as it can be creatively decorated year round for all occasions - stickers , drawings , stamps , cutout cartoons , etc. or " dressed up " w/ special ribbons 'n bows & silk flowers . Be creative & enjoy !
We reuse gift bags until they have to be held together with tape LOL. Reuse and recycle and all good!
@@hollypepen4012 My ( late ) mom grew up in The Depression & I'm a baby boomer - lots of family joking about ironing wrapping paper & ribbons , saving boxes year to year , etc. - and we were far from poor ! It was just something everyone did before it was given a name : recycling ! 🥰
@@hollypepen4012 we do too. In fact we put our name and date on the bottom so we can see where the bag traveled to!
I have not shopped Target since they started the men/women restroom/dressing room issue.
I’m a little confused. You walk through this store pointing out how “overpriced” everything is or “of poor quality” but buy something from the dollar spot that you just criticized and indulged in fake eyelashes? Kuddos to you for having a network for hand me downs, but a $6 kids shirt new versus a $4 used shirt from a kids consignment store doesn’t seem overpriced. I was hoping this video would be more factual and informative. I have a many items in my home from Target that have “stood the test of time”. Besides, on the whole, Target employees and stores have proven much more helpful and tidier and pleasant to shop than the trashed Walmarts near me.
Cat & jack has always been great. It holds up to my kids play. Plus they have a buy back policy. Even if it's damaged, played in, whatever. Look it up, it's very cool.
I won’t shop at Target. Never.
Love you Dawn. I’m a Minnesota gal and no matter what will shop Target. I agree about second hand, thrifting for kids and personally don’t buy furniture or clothes but am NOT a fan of Walmart. Aldi is great. The Walmart stores are better outside the metro so perhaps you have a better experience near you?
I have avoided Target the last few years, and I'm sure it has saved me a lot of money! I wholeheartedly agree about their clothing, it doesn't fit well and the quality is really poor.
My take on target is based on how you categorize it. For me I believe it’s really a less expensive version of more expensive stores home stores like container store, crate and barrel, urban outfitters, west elm etc.. and in the world of home goods and Marshall’s and similar stores, target is more on the pricey side. Target is more so in the middle and it depends on where else you shop that would make it seem less or more expensive. I started shopping around at higher end places to see how much they cost vs quality and found that target had similar items at a way cheaper price. Like a vase at west elm can be $30 but at target it’s $15 but then at home goods it’s $8. All this to say it’s about perception and where else the person is shopping. One win target has for me is that I can buy online and all those other cheaper alternatives you can’t.
Maybe it's just my weird sense of humor but Dawn was talking about how she didn't buy produce there, not good deals etc. and there was a lady behind her, deep in thought, getting her berries and it just made LOL🤣.
I’ve actually found some of their produce to be a good buy…pick and choose..☮️🦋
@@janeanndouglas9231 I get their 16 oz organic baby spinach now instead of at Costco or Sam's Club for less money and the same size.
I'm totally behind the reuse mentality of thrifting etc. but I wish the price wasn't emphasized as much. Granted that price is important to most people but we're too used to paying for things cheaply rather than what they actually cost to produce. Better to shop used than sweatshop-produced pieces, whether Target, Walmart, etc.
I agree. Everyone wants to be well paid for their work and then buy at cut rates. It's hard to shop local for everything (sometimes impossible), but trying to support local means those people can also support local. It's tough, though. Price is hard to overlook.
I totally agree that the scale of things in the Dollar Spot is always a little too small. There was a tiny coffee cart that people on Instagram went crazy for, but what did people actually do with it?
I bought it and I put it on my nightstand for my supplements that I take before bed and my baby monitor. :) I didn’t know it was a popular thing though when I bought it since I don’t have an IG
@@melaniehancock2210 that’s awesome. Great idea!!!
I have been using the drive up option at Target and have saved lots of money the last couple years because I’m not tempted to impulse shop
HELPFUL advice ! 😊
And we also love the quality of the bedding at Target. Thank you! 🦋
Wow - so much 💩ing on Target!!!! Their pickup has been a lifesaver during Covid lockdowns so I appreciate them✨❤️✨
I haven’t shopped at Target in years. I don’t support companies who support things that I don’t believe in.
I just love Target! I get things at various stores for various reasons (sometimes cost is one reason) but always have a lovely and calm experience shopping at Target. Returns are super fast and easy, too -and the staff are always super nice. They treat their employees well, and in some locations they start people at $20 an hour, which is great! And I like supporting a company that shows larger women in their ads, and all skin tones, ethnicities and sizes and also shows disabled people in their ads! Way to be inclusive! Representation matters. :)
And yet so many narrow-minded comments railing against Target's inclusiveness. Religious hypocrites.
I've never understood the obsession with Target.
For kids clothes, we don't buy a ton there but we do like some of the Cat & Jack stuff. That line is super affordable and comes with a no questions asked 1 year satisfaction guarantee.
I honestly think the reason most people” love” Target is because they don’t want to admit to shopping Walmart because Target has a higher class standing. LOL. It’s a status thing! I have never been crazy over Target, never found clothes that suit my more mature style. The only thing I do love at Target is the bedding like you mentioned and bath towels, sometimes I do buy the kids clothes. If on sale they aren’t that much more expensive than Walmart.
I agree with you, people think Target is more classy. I find all of my "mature" clothes as well as towels and bedding at Kohl's when they send me 30-40% off coupons. I think I am the only Kohl's fan left.
@@laceegomel8207 Kohl's has great sales!
I’ve always thought this too. It’s the ‘in’ place to shop compared to Walmart.
I know people who jokingly pronounce it Tar-jé so it sounds classier (sort of a French enunciation) rather that Tar-Get (hard g). 😆
@@SpeakTruthBeKind lol I hear that all the time!
I recently purchased school supplies and cost compared with Amazon (during Amazon prime days) and by far Target was much cheaper for every item on the school supply list. I hate Walmarts and will not shop at one. Too many bad stores and unsafe parking lots in my area.
I love the Cat & Jack brand kid clothes, but I buy it all second hand. I'm with you, all the dollar spot stuff I bought ended up on a garage sale. Love the bedding too! I go in Target with blinders and ONLY get what I need. They do have things that other stores just don't have.
Apparently I’m not looking in the right second hand stores. I can typically shop a good sale a year ahead and pay less than consignment. I’ll keep trying. We have three boys and I try to pass down as much as I can so my other issue with consignment has always been that they wear out sooner since they’re already used.
Same lol. Love Cat and Jack but get it at the thrift.
Target was probably like, Hey! The Minimal Mom is here to make a video. Then they see the video. LOL!!! I guess it’s like any store. We have a Kohls and Everything is on “sale” everyday. It looks like a great deal but is it really? Keep up the good work.
I hate how Kohl's and JC Penney do that! False markups to show a fake sale.
I totally agree with you about Target's $ Spot: EVERYTHING is overpriced. I learned to walk right by it. In fact, I only go to Target for the odd purchase every now & then. Like for an overpriced loaf of bread.
🤣Lol
We pay $1.19 for a loaf of bread at target. That is before the 5% discount as well. Doesn’t seem overpriced to me. Make sure you are getting their generic brand.
@@amandaroinila1455 us too!
$1.19 for a loaf of bread, seems like an okay deal to me...
Target is so ridiculously left I am not comfortable going in there anymore. I want to! And sometimes I do, and I turn right around and leave. I know, it's everywhere now... but I just feel so out of place. Not judging anyone who goes. I just can't. The last time I was there, I filled a cart half full with cute things from the bargain spot, and within 30 feet of getting into the store, I just didn't want to contribute. My spirit wasn't happy, so I put the things back, and the cart, and left. That will probably be the last time. It started years ago when they dropped the word Christmas to be politically correct... over time, they have swung back center on that, but far to the extreme in many other ways that are year-round....their identity and philosophy. I just can't. ❤️
I never go to Target. It’s so overpriced
I have found the $ Spot at Target to be good for accent pieces for holiday decor. I mostly just decorate for Christmas (not the other holidays) and since we have a very large home, I like to just put small nods to Christmas in a lot of different rooms and this has been a good way to inexpensively do this. I also love their decor - although I've found some WalMart finds, I tend to like the style of Target better. All of my outdoor melamine is from Target and since we spend 90% of our summer eating outdoors it was also an inexpensive way to have outdoor serve/dinnerware. (And nicer than always using paper products).
I agree, I get my Autumn and Christmas decorations mostly at Target.
I'm the opposite with kids clothes. I love the cat & Jack clothes. They do a lot of sales. And they have the 1 year warranty. I also have a kid who needs a uniform and they are decently priced. Especially since they have the warranty and sales. I just got clothes for next summer for my kids and khaki shorts for my boys were only 4 a peice and there was a bunch of color options.
My daughter is 12 and I like their like juniors section teen section but the clothes are super expensive.
Yes! The return policy is great at Target. I don't feel like Walmart wants my business with their shifty return policy. 🤷
Cat and Jack clothes are so much better! They last longer and are WAY cuter! I think for the extra dollar or two it is way worth it!
Your purse is so cute! Where did you get it? I know, I know…NOT Target!😂
Target used to be my favorite store. I knew it wasn't as inexpensive as Walmart, but it was so neat, c!ean and organized. But I haven't shopped there at all in years. I felt betrayed when they made a big deal about proclaiming that men would be welcome in the women's restrooms and changing rooms.
Same here. I feel like I'm the only one that remembers that. I haven't been inside the store since.
Same. They're still up to that stuff, too. It has saved me thousands of dollars, I'm sure.
You're not alone. Same here. I feel that they did not take the safety of females at heart. There had been a couple of perverted incidences at my local Target in the dressing rooms too. But they still allowed it & proved to have a certain agenda.
Same here.
Same here-I have chosen not to shop at Target for the same reason-have not been inside since they allowed men in ladies rrooms and changing rooms!
Ever since Target changed their policy to allow men in women's changing rooms and bathrooms I have decided to not shop there at all. That was years ago. BTW Dawn, I love your dress!
Agreed on that.
Years ago I would shop at Target at least once a week. Over the last few years their prices have gone way up and I have found better places to shop. If I am not mistaken there are many of us doing the same thing....their stock prices seems to indicate that fact.
I stopped shopping at Target when they said that either sex can go into the other sex bathroom anytime they want to identify as such. Disgusting. They’re not getting my money.
Personally I love Target 🎯😍, I think it's a twin cities thing, it seems like so many people are connected to working there in some capacity, going to Target is like going to the mother ship, but it takes a ton of self control to not walk out with half the store. One of my most liked Facebook posts was "went to Target for one $1.00 box of Christmas tree ornament hangers....$56 dollars later...." because everyone can relate to the experience of impulse shopping there. Online ordering and drive up has been a game changer, started during covid, and now just haven't returned to shopping in the store and don't really miss it except for seeing some of the interior design displays 🤷
I am totally a fan of Target! But since covid hit, I haven't been inside a store (curbside pickup is my friend - and btw, where was this convenience when my kids were babies/toddlers? Would have loved to let them sleep in their carseats while someone else loaded up my car with my treasures?). But as my way of "shopping in-store", I subscribe to several "personal shoppers" who "take me" to all of my favorite places like Target, HomeGoods.....
Thank you! I’ve always felt like an outcast for not liking target, their things don’t last and I could pay the same or less for something that actually lasts! Plus, I hate the idea of buying into fast fashion so I try not to buy clothes from places like this. Bad for the wallet and environment.
Watch for the sales team on Cat & Jack and other brands at Target. Great quality items.
When Target went with gender neutral bathrooms, I never went in again.
I stopped going to Target because every time I went in I bought stuff I didn't need. It has been months since I went last and only plan to go when I need something specific. Great video~
I’m done shopping at Target. I don’t agree with their values and I can find much better deals elsewhere.
I do like their linens and have lasted for years. Also I like looking through the book aisle because they'll have titles that I don't see other places. Since I don't like Walmart (too crowded and messy) I go to Target more often, even though their prices are a bit higher.
I agree, Cynthia, about the linens and books. And I can't stand Walmart, either. My Target store is always clean and quiet. Walmart always seems noisy and chaotic. So even if things might be cheaper there, it's just not worth it! I'll stick with Target.
So I binge watch all your videos... they are so helpful! But super random question... your skin always looks so great! What foundation do you use (if you use one at all)? Thanks! 😊
great video, thanks Dawn!
I stopped really shopping at Target when I realized I couldn't spend less than $50 every time I entered, then I started comparing t.j Maxx prices for clothing and decor to Target and realized t.j Maxx is way cheaper and oftentimes better quality, however one of the things that I have found surprisingly affordable and good quality at Target are some of their bras, and they've lasted way longer than Victoria's secret.
Watching from Australia I was stunned when I saw groceries in Target!
I absolutely LOVE Target. I would love never having to set a foot in a Walmart store although they do have a few different items that I can't find at Target. Target items, such as groceries are at most a few cents more than Walmart. From your video, you can see how nice the Target stores are: how clean and organized. Walmart is at most a dumpy, smelly, unorganized store. I also have the Target Red Card which is 5% off the purchase which somewhat but not quite covers the tax. So, now, off to Target to pick up my Drive Up order which is so easy to do and the associates are actually friendly. 🙂
I do my food shopping at walmart, it is so much cheaper than Target. Yes Target is prettier and more organized, but you cannot beat the Walmart prices. I go to Walmart at 7:00am, I pretty much have the store to myself. Get my shopping done and get out before all Hell breaks lose around 10:00am lol
@@marywhite9031 I don't trust the quality of the produce though. Definitely not the meat.
I find the quality of groceries at Walmart is much better. I’ve ended up with mold on berries at Target twice and ice cream that had clearly been melted and refrozen. I much prefer the quality and selection at Walmart.
I do my grocery shopping at Aldi, especially for produce, milk eggs, paper goods and cereal. Other things I buy at the local grocery chain, mostly my veggie stuff. I don't like their vegan foods at Aldi.
This video surprises me... there's always a lot to probably cut down on buying, but Target is way cheaper than many other options. I've had $5 tee shirts for a decade from Target. You can't compare dollar store unbranded items to top brands at Target (gift bags aside... those are great to get at the dollar store). Like one of my favorites US made Method natural cleaning and bath supplies, nothing at the dollar store is going to compete. When you factor in the 5% Red card savings plus all the cash back, coupons and gift cards it is probably cheaper than Walmart. I never ever shop there... it might be a few cents cheaper but their values, foreign products and legit horrible treatment of their employees over powers the need to save a few cents on something. Will not give them a dime. Since I don't shop there I can't speak for Walmart quality but I've never heard of them being known for high quality of anything.
This makes me sad because we keep losing retailers in my area. Target is one of the last remaining stores that is still open. I hate the atmosphere of Wally World and the fact that they make you check yourself out. Also, like another commenter says, I find returns at Walmart to be a pain. The employees always seem to have an attitude. I used to buy a lot of things at Target but I don't need anything these days. They did used to have nice clothes. I bought a beautiful leather jacket there about 20 years ago and it is still just as lovely. Personally I love Target and when it is one of the only stores in town, I have no choice.
Total agree on the bedding. I had total hip replacement surgery recently, so I splurged and got some new bedding for myself. Target was where I got it from and loved it.
My favorite purchase from Target recently has also been the bedding. I also found some nice storage baskets at the dollar spot awhile back. The other things I like to get at Target include makeup (one of the Targets closer to me carries the Mineral Fusion brand that I really like), toys (specifically for gifts during the holidays as I feel like Target has a better selection and have better deals than Walmart), and toddler pants and shoes (I really prefer that Cat & Jack pants for my little guy because they have functional drawstrings whereas Walmart’s don’t.) And I also agree about the womens clothing. Almost every time I have gotten something here, I haven’t ended up donating it later because its either too trendy or not great quality.
I also agree with another comment about Target being more about a peaceful escape. The closest Target is an hour away from me, so I just enjoy getting to walk around when I get a chance and enjoy the atmosphere. I think it is an important skill to be able to walk around and admire what you see without feeling like you need to bring it all home.
I’m not a big shopper but I def prefer Target. I just bought my personal care stuff for way cheaper on sale and with my circle points than they sell at Walmart. I will admit Walmart product selection and brands have greatly improved. But the in store experience is just not as nice.
I buy all my swim suits from Target. I’m a larger size woman and they fit great and have lasted at least 3 years. Also, my fave work out leggings come from there. They cost $25 but I wear them a lot and they still have their shape.
We’re vegan and Target has a lot of vegan frozen food and dry goods that are a lot cheaper than the grocery stores. Also, their frozen strawberries are less than Costco, and I use those 3 days a week for smoothies and oatmeal. It’s all relative, what we each need and what works for our families.
Yes, def agree! I wear some of their tanks, leggings and joggers with UPF 50 due to needing to protect my skin from the sun. They hold up so well! Also, we rely on much of the same food items you likely do (80-90% plant-based, no dairy, no gluten), and I'd go broke or at least not buy everything I do if it wasn't for Target. :)
At Target you’re basically just paying for a better shopping experience, and aesthetics. The items aren’t better quality, though. I totally agree with other people that Walmart isn’t the most pleasant shopping experience, but it sure is cheaper.
I do love Target for the ease of returns, for their clearance, and for finding cute matching leggings for my girls and their cousins. I also love their paper supplies, but 100% agree that they're more expensive and unless it's on sale, I'm usually looking elsewhere.
Don't forget that with the Target credit and debit cards, you save 5%.
Love that dress on you 😊
Thanks for this info, esp the lashes you like. I thought you were just a master at mascara. I do like Target better than Walmart because it just looks nicer, but yeah, the prices are higher.
Target has never been my go to store, I believe that years ago, I just thought they were too expensive! The only reason I ever go into Target, at Christmas, is to look for a video game for the grandbabies that was not anywhere else! Love the fun "shop-with-me" videos....this was a good video. Thanks Dawn.
