Excellent video! Thanks so much for all the useful info. After working myself into the ground for the last 10 years, I'm looking to start doing this in a couple of months. I can't wait!
I’m so glad you thought the video was informative! Yes you absolutely should sign up. It’s a great program and I know many people have success with it.
Thanks for the great review! From Alaska! Amazing! I'm not with Trusted Housesitters, though I'm not ruling them out in the future. I'm with other housesitting websites and I've been busy. I'm booked until early January so looking for 2025 housesits. I've heard complaints about Trusted Housesitters from both sitters and homeowners. Right now I'm house and dog sitting in the UK for a couple who were on Trusted Housesitters for many years but abandoned ship, and so of course I wanted to know why because I might sign up as a housesitter there one day. They have no complaints about the sitters, but they had complaints about the changes to Trusted Housesitters for the homeowners and that's why they left and put their ad up with one of the sites I'm on.
Thank you so much! I’m not sure why other people had issues with it, the hosts I sat for didn’t seem to have any problem with it. I also personally had a great experience. What other sites are you on for housesitting?
@@sarahjneve I'm with Housesitters UK and their sister site Housesitters Canada. Both cost about $50/year (Canadian dollars) plus members can get discounts for referrals. And new members can get $10 off if they use a referral code. I don't believe the homeowners are capped after a certain amount of applicants. Last year the people I house sat for in London had over 70 applicants - but they loved my profile the best. I'll be housesitting again for them at the end of July for 3 weeks. I get a lot of homeowners contacting me first on both sites. The 4 month sit I have coming up in Toronto starting Sept 1, the homeowners never placed an ad. They saw my profile and I was the only person they contacted. These are 2 big cities that would be in high demand for housesitters. Location, location. But I think Alaska is pretty cool too! Oh, I'm also with Housecarers. I haven't applied for a sit yet. I've had a few owners contact me, but never for dates when I'm available.
Hi, Sarah! Thanks for your video! It makes me more comfortable with the whole idea! I am looking to get a sitter for a trip I plan to take in May of '25. I live in Albuquerque, NM. How far in advance should I place an ad on TrustedHousesitter? I'd really appreciate any guidance you could offer! Thanks!
Aww yay I’m so glad my video helped you! Most people wait until they’re a couple months out from their trip to post, but there’s no harm in posting it as soon as possible - some people would rather plan their sitting further in advance. Just know you might not get many applications right away because it is still further out!
Hank is cute ❤ I have been a standard member for three years. I have had wonderful experiences. I just don't like the maximum of 5 applicants per listing that they have now...
Hank was so much fun to hang out with!! And yes I understand how the limited applications may be frustrating, but I think it’s just so that the pet owners don’t get too overwhelmed!!
I’m so glad I helped! If you didn’t get a discount on your membership, you might be able to email TrustedHousesitters and ask for my code SARAHJ25 to be applied to your annual subscription!
The host usually picks you up from the airport, so any gas you use when they let you use their car is not really necessary. Also - the host is letting you use their car for free, which is significantly cheaper than having to rent a car!!
I know you said you dont get paid but im wondering if people still offer payment or if there's an app that is more geared towards being payed. Im trying to sit within my home town to make extra money on the side and although i have family friends that offer, its not as often as i would like..my goal isnt to replace my house with others as "free" accommodation. My goal is to just make extra on the side. Any suggestions?
I’m sure there is some app or maybe even just a Facebook group you can join who are willing to pay! Or even just put a message out on social media or email anyone you know and say you’re willing to housesit - most people will assume you want to be paid!
It’s so worth it!! You can use the link in the description to sign up for free and get a 25% discount on your annual membership if you decide to join :)
@@sarahjneveyou might of mentioned it in the video but I might of overlooked it,how much time have you had to explore Alaska while house sitting? I’ve always wanted to go. I will use your code if I do thanks :)
I had most of the day to explore! I had to be home in the mornings and evenings to feed hank but most of the day I spent exploring and doing other activities outside of the house!
If I want my partner to come stay, do I just let them know my partner is traveling with me? Or does my partner also need to create a profile and get a background check through trusted housesitter
Hank is a natural on-air personality!
Hank is the star of the show at all times

Thank you for your informative video. I'm a house owner with pets and thinking of signing up with Trusted Housesitters.

Hi there, thanks for the review, are you able to bring your own pet if you have one with you to the sit?
Hi! I’m not sure, that’s probably something you’d have to discuss with each individual host!
Very good info.
Thank you!! That’s lovely to hear :)
At the very least, I need compensation for my gasoline. I didn't stay for the very end. Maybe you mentioned tipping ...

can I leave a review if I am not a member
I’m not sure! I would guess probably not
is that a big camera watching you at 0:39 to the right of you on the table?
Ha no! It’s a fan :)
the biggest camera in 30 years
haha yeah not very stealthy if it’s that big
Sick I never knew this kind of thing existed!

Yes usually you just let them know your partner will be coming with you! Only one person needs to apply and create a profile :)
I wonder if it’s in Michigan?
People are always adding different sits all over! I’m sure there’s plenty of available houses it’s in Michigan :)
