- A video showing buses in Cork city (south Ireland), recorded in August 2024.
It has been eight months since the last visit to this southern city ( • Cork Buses | December ... ), but whereas that visit was only for a few hours, this one covered a few days.
It was noted back in December that Cork had received double-deck VWD buses from Limerick and Galway. This has continued, with the city fleet now having over 100 members of the class. As a result they dominate on nearly all city routes, apart from the 207A, 209, 209A and 216 which mainly remain in the hands of the Mercedes-Citaro single-deck MC Class. The solitary MC in Transport for Ireland (TFI) livery makes an appearance in this video.
The double-decker coach LF-Class has become more prominent on the regional and long-distance routes. They mainly feature on route 226 to Kinsale, 245 to Fermoy and 245X to Dublin, but can appear on other routes too, such as the 236.
One double-decker that is a bit unusual, and also appears in the video, is the Cronin's East Lancs Vyking on route 215. This was one of two hire-in buses on Bus Eireann city routes I saw during my visit, with both covering a shortage in Bus Eireann driver.
Private operators also contribute to bus services to Cork in their own, and not just as hire-ins for Bus Eireann. West Cork Connect operate services to Kinsale while Cobh Connect operate services to Cobh. Citylink and Aircoach provide express services to Dublin and Dublin Airport, while Cronins operate open-top tours around Cork using a variety of double-deck buses.
As usual, there is a lot of bus variety in the Ireland's second city.
