Thank you! I am just getting started with unspun yarns and this is the best information that I have found. I am so glad to know that others enjoy unspun yarns.
So glad I discovered you as I just received my first Nutiden order. I will watch this again, and catch up on your other episodes. Your style of knitting is right up my alley, and your stitch definition is beautiful! Thank you for sharing!😊
Thank you…you did a great job of giving me ideas and tips for knitting with unspun yarn! I will definitely do some gauges with different needles before I start the knit. Your sweaters are beautiful! Thank you again….very informative. G
Thank you for your lovely podcast! A lot of information about unspun yarn..I knit with 3 of the brands. Love all my sweaters, but my latest knit is the Lento sweater, I knit this with Nutiden single strand with a beautiful 1 strand mohair, and this is such a great combi for this pattern! XMiriam
Thanks for your kind words! 😊 The Lento has been on my list, I’ll definitely have to consider using some of my SQ of Nutiden to make it. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for a great video. I just knit a sweater with plötulopi (single strand) for the first time and had trouble with the underarm grafting - the yarn fell apart! Three-needle bind off worked, but I was wondering how you approach grafting with unspun yarn. Thanks again for all the information.
Thank you for your kind words! For grafting, I approach it similar to the way that I approach performing the tubular bind-off using unspun yarn. I felt the yarn slightly and work in smaller sections while avoiding tugging on the yarn too aggressively. You might want to check out my tutorial here ruclips.net/video/jVnNLuZrwfw/видео.html .
Loved the video - great info! 😊 One question I have though is the difference between the yarns with regards to pilling. I know alot of times softer=more pilling but wondered about your experience. Thanks!
Thank you! In my experience, unspun yarn will pill to a point and then stop pilling altogether. Once I’ve seen that the sweater has reached that point (usually a season of wear) I depill and wash it and it’s good as new. This is unlike some of my other garments in soft yarns that just always need depilling. Hope that helps!
@@KnitandGrace Oooo, that's good to hear, you've talked me into it, lol. Seriously though, I have wanted to try unspun yarn for a while but was afraid to spend all that time and money for a sweater that just melted away. Thanks so much, now I get to go yarn shopping!!! 😁
Thanks! This really helps me. I will be using unspun for the first time and had all these questions. Just one question I have is this, I want to make the Gentle lopi from Bemanderine, for my daughter-in-law law. when she was young she could not ware the itchy sweaters if I would use one strand of the Plotelopi and one strand suri alpaca, would that make it softer on the skin? Oh and what is the price difference between the different unspun? I know what the Plotelopi cost and the Thrive. Your finished pieces are beautiful ❤
Suri would definitely soften it up, but the nature of Plotulopi is that it’s 100% Icelandic yarn and has long staple length that sticks out and give the yarn it’s natural halo. These are the scratchy bits. I would recommend knitting up a swatch and washing and blocking it and having her hold it up against the most sensitive parts of her body. A sweater like this isn’t meant to be worn next to skin so as long as she can tolerate it with a T-shirt underneath, I’d say give it a go!
Thank you for the vote of confidence! For US stores that sell unspun, I know The Wooly Thistle sells Plotulopi and Manchelopis. I'm not sure of any other retailers within the US, but I've never had an issue with shipping from Europe other than the expense which I've already factored in when ordering. As for frogging, it really depends on the situation. Sometimes I've had no issues, and others I've just cut back and started over.
Nice and thorough video with information but , I wish you could take it one step further and show us how you cast on and knit with the yarn and maybe bind off too. Thank you
I can definitely try to film a follow up video in the next few weeks showing the knitting process! I do have a WIP going with unspun yarn so I’ll add this to my filming schedule.
Very helpful! Thank you 😊 Happy knitting 💚🧶💚

This is a keeper. I've been trying to find US shipped sites to buy unspun. What was ur experience with frogging this unspun yarn? Thanks for sharing.
