3:17 With water.. Are you sure you put tap water and not DI water filtration system + shrimp salt + water conditioner + water test kit? Because if so, it's quite a big leap on price and size for the overall material. I've done that and both red shrimps dies, despite water changes (dechlorinated tap water) and proper temperature.
Didnt expect this could work! No airstone and tiny size tank. Would you mind sharing how much/often you feed and details on water change? I struggle with overfeeding, bluegreen algae, and keeping shrimp alive haha.
Yes, it was kind of experiment. I feed only 2 times a week, very small amounts. No water changes, just topping the water that evaporates. This is still running, still doing good, and everyone is alive :)
That sub straight you use, does it have nutrients in the pebble size granules? Like, is it just a custom mix of soil that a company shaped into pellets? Or is it just a man-made lava rock type of substance to allow for surface area for bacteria?
Yes, according to the producer it has nutrients in it that are released over longer period of time. But often I use additional root tabs with it, just not in small tanks like this one.
What kind of water should I use to fill and do water changes with? Also how often and how much of the water should be changed at a time? Awesome video. Ty very much.
Thank you! I just use aged tap water. And after few weeks I'm not doing any water changes, just topping what evaporates. Snals and shrimp are doing the cleaning and all is working just great!
Ty for reply! I have a fish/aquarium store nearby. I cannot find any 5L glass tanks online sadly so I will try there. They also have tiny shrimp. I will try 1 snail and 2 shrimp. Less is more as they say :) @@AquascapingCube
It's not ideal. It would be much better to have one longer session, plants photosynthesize in certain way and just stop growing at some point after they are "done for the day" :P
I water them when I visually see they are drying out. Once a day is totally fine, sometimes even once every 2 days. If everything is moist - you are ok! Just open the foil for few seconds to let the fresh air inside to avoid mold.
It very strongly depends on where you live. Tropica Aquarium Soil is good and easy to get (but expensive), and UNS Controsoil was working for me as well.
people underestimate how simple it is to do, evem without money at all. i did one with wild ghost shrimp, pond water, free rocks, river sand, and pond plants all in a pickle jar. Its wildly successful on the first day.
I don't ;) I'm only topping the water that evaporates. Never cleaning the glass, or making water changes. Clithon snail and shrimp are keeping it super clean and doing great.
Yes, they breed in there and were doing very well. But there were so many that I had to move them to something bigger, so I replaced this tank with this one: ruclips.net/video/u2YgFjUdyyM/видео.html . I was not doing water changes after few months, I was just topping the water that evaporated. Later this tank was used to keep Harlequin rasbora fry for a short time ;)
Acclimation is everything. When introducing shrimp into the tank try to use drip acclimation. They hate sudden changes in water parameters. Stick to the basics, don't overfeed, don't do big water changes, introduce some botanicals into the tank (leaves etc.), create some hiding places for them etc. Good luck!
Not very often. Only at the beginning I was making small changes every few days. Not I just top the evaporated water, for shrimp only tank - that is enough.
Great! There should be no algae because there is no water. And to avoid mold - you should open it every day to give it some fresh air - but you will do it anyways to spray it with water :) Good luck!
3mins of work. 2 weeks of waiting :P Buy honestly, this dry start part is optional. You can just create the tank and then cycle it the "normal way" with water.
2 minutes?!?! Really?!?! 🤯 Yet you have to wait two weeks for the plants to root properly and then you waited another 2 weeks for the tank to cycle? 😂 Longest 2 minutes ever! 😂
This was really fast and easy. It really took few minutes! Try this!
How could anyone not want to build one of these it's so cute and fun, fabulous job, my friend! :)
Hi Tracy :) Thank you! Yes, I’m very happy with the result :)
I love it! Always looking forward to your next project
Thank you very much!

This is excellent.I will make one like this for cherry shrimps.

@@AquascapingCube Amazing! Thank you.
Absolutely liked it! 👍🏻 Your videos are very nice and very practical! I became a big fan of your channel. Thanks so much!
Thank you for your comment :) Means a lot, I’m glad you like it!
Petco has all aqueon tanks half off till July 4th. Tons of really cheap nano tanks :)

Thank you :)
how long do we have to keep the lights on in the dry start method? is it 24/7 or few hours in day
Hi, Only 8hr/day. Anything above 10h doesn't really bring any benefits in my view.
@@AquascapingCube i do in gaps like 2 hours in morning, 2 hours in evening and 2 hours in night is that fine?
and how many times do i have to water the plants

Grt video how much lightning hours daily for dry start method can u plz guide
Thank you! During dry start I keep the light on up to 10h/day. But anything between 8-12h will be fine.
wow.i love thisgreat job
Thank you:)
very nice 💯👍
Thank you! Cheers!
love this!
I'm glad you liked it :)
Is a lid necessary for shrimp?
The light full time???🤔
no
No. During dry start should be about 8-10h
hard to find Yokuchi JIban Soil, can you recommend any other easily available substitutes for substrates?
It very strongly depends on where you live. Tropica Aquarium Soil is good and easy to get (but expensive), and UNS Controsoil was working for me as well.
@AquascapingCube I ended up going with fluval Stratum for shrimp, any thoughts on that brand ?
love it
Thanks!😊

i did one with wild ghost shrimp, pond water, free rocks, river sand, and pond plants all in a pickle jar. Its wildly successful on the first day.
How do you maintain this? Frequency of water change? etc? Thanks 🙂
I don't ;) I'm only topping the water that evaporates. Never cleaning the glass, or making water changes. Clithon snail and shrimp are keeping it super clean and doing great.
stupid question but would this work if the tank was more of a rectangular shape but still same size
Hi, sure it will work - no problem :)
Do you fertilise your plants after the 2 weeks?
No. They have more than enough nutrients for months. It will take a long time before ferts are needed.
What about if i add a filter could i put a small fish?
No, not really. It's abouot the size of the tank. It's just to small for fish. I only use it for fish fry sometimes.
No matter the size of the fish
They font deserve that small of an environment
How is it going after 10 months? Needed water changes? Did they breed ?
Yes, they breed in there and were doing very well. But there were so many that I had to move them to something bigger, so I replaced this tank with this one: ruclips.net/video/u2YgFjUdyyM/видео.html . I was not doing water changes after few months, I was just topping the water that evaporated. Later this tank was used to keep Harlequin rasbora fry for a short time ;)
Does it require any type of filter?
No, I have no filter in there and it works fine.
Hi. I have a 15x15x15cm cube. I am a beginner and i want to learn the basics of shrimp keeping. Any tips?
😅

@@AquascapingCube for my tank size, how many shrimp and what shrimp should i keep
@@Anonymous-gh3wcNeocaridina, like cherry shrimp. I would start from 4-5 and see how it goes.
Ok
but can i try crystal reds? They look nice. Btw i got those cherry shrimp that you mentioned. Wish me luck! 😊
How often do you change water in this?
Not very often. Only at the beginning I was making small changes every few days. Not I just top the evaporated water, for shrimp only tank - that is enough.
@@AquascapingCube thanks!
Will they still breed in this small type of tank?
Not really. I mean there were babies but very little. Only 3-4 instead of 20
You don’t need a filter?
No, not in nano tank like this one. And it was working fine for months with no issues.
do you do water changes?
Only at the beginning, and very small ones. Later just topping the water.
how many hours you left the lights on for dry start ?
8h/day if I remember correctly
@@AquascapingCube thanks! , im going to try it out! Hope it all works without any algae growth or mold

@@AquascapingCube so everyday with water or 2 days once ?
No need flitter ?
No. This was no filter setup. Never had any issues.
i put fish in 1 gallon tanks like 3 pygmy corys in vas for last 2 years same 3 just do daily small water changes and have plants
Shrimp can jump so a glass lid is needed
How many gallons or litres is the tank?
17x17x17cm = 5L (1.3gal)

takes only 3 weeks and 3 minutes 🎉🎉🎉 joking. love the scape
