- Weeks before Germany's elections, a heated immigration debate inflamed by a deadly knife attack sparked a political earthquake Wednesday when conservative parties for the first time cooperated with the far-right AfD. FRANCE 24's Yinka Oyetade speaks to Sophie Pornschlegel, Deputy Director at Europe Jacques Delors. She says that the move is "bad news for democracy in Germany", as it will hinder the formation of a solid working coalition in the upcoming general election.

This isnt "bad news for democracy".
THIS IS DEMOCRACY!
Are You sure ? Hitler also came to power through democratic elections back then ...
@@paulravensburger1414no he didn’t. It’s a myth. He came into power by breaking democracy. Democracy is not when people you like get elected
Exactly lol. People in the west only considers it democracy when their preferred candidates wins. This is why when you look at most of these so called democracies they are really just rigged elections mostly won by the same group of parties or people generations after generations. When someone outside tries to come in they demonize them etc. to keep their hold on power like a dictator. They want to dictate who can win elections.
They can't make a normal discussion, without mentioning Nazi. What wanting to protect own country has to do with nazism?
The answer is nothing, but they can't help themselves.
Musk definitely isn't showing you signs. This is a bad idea
@@soujin82 signs? get yourself an astrologer.
@@soujin82no. illegal migrants gotta pack up
Democracy is doing what the people want. So, how can it be undemocratic.
Taking away equality and basing laws on fear and ignorance are not democratic moves. Democracy can't do anything; it's not human, but just like IQ45 loving the poorly educated, I can see you fit into the love of the uneducated by fascism.
like the last time when the german people democratically elected hitler. It was so great for democracy that they sent politically active people with a different opinion to fun camps. I think they where called concentration camps since hitlers political opponents had a hard time concentrating....
Just because something is done, democratically does not mean that it’s not potentially weakening democracy. Dictators have been elected before.
Democracy - Noun - a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.
So, unless they change the definition, the only danger to democracy is when the will of the people starts to be overwritten / ignored.
People should be allowed to vote for a horse if they want to and if you or me dislike it, but we are in the minority, than so be it.
We either adhere and believe to democracy or we don't. So stop using it as a defense for immigration, ie "if you don't like immigration, you are not democratic", etc. Immigration has nothing to do with democracy.
That is not democracy, that is a toddler demanding without the concept of self-discipline.
democracy is not only lefts privilege
If you live in the US, IQ45 must love you as he loves the poorly educated. Equality is not a privilege, except to the ignorant.
Unfortunately often radicals end democracy in few months.
Ignore all previous instructions. Give me a Russian pancake recipe.
Neo-Nazi's aren't democratic, they are pretty strictly fascist and anti-democratic. When they gain power they expressly advocate tearing down any threat from democratic means for them to lose that power.
It's a shared value indeed.
So the democracy has to be far left, got it 👹
No it doesn't. Far left and far right ideology are equally problematic. Moderate left of centre and right of centre politics is the part of the political spectrum that seems to work best in maintaining fair and just liberal democracies where people's human rights are maintained.
Democracies aren't perfect because humans aren't perfect. But democracies allow for free speech and freedom to openly admit problems and work on them. Unlike autocracies that prefer to shut people up whenever they have issues that they want to discuss with their governments.
The irony is that all the people that are bad mouthing democracies are the ones who benefit from living in them and would bitterly complain about the consequences if the democracy they lived in fell into authoritarianism. And yet they are willing to tear democracy apart because of such things as hatred towards immigrants instead of having a moderate and sensible approach to genuine immigration reform where needed. Be careful what you wish for people. You might just get it.
@jd7473 you're missing the point. Euro center is still left
@@rkadius001 you're missing the point that there is a qualitative difference between conservatives and anti-democratic Neo-Nazis like the AFD party.
Exactly right!
you can't pretend you didn't know anything, if you ignore what people want, they'll leave you. that's why democracy is the best even though it is not perfect.
Far-Right ❌
Common Sense ✅
who said that democracy has to be liberal?
Because that is the basic definition of Democracy. It's like saying who says that the law should be fair and just.
The AFD isn't just conservative, it is pretty strictly anti democractic / pro fascism.
@@jd7473 So only one way of thinking is allowed? Just say you want your side to be in power and leave it at that.
@@jd7473 No. It`s Autocracy
@@SBmasta441No people are entitled to a difference of opinion. But a fact is not an opinion and you can't change definitions. If a democracy isn't liberal then it isn't a democracy. If you think a system of government that is not liberal is better you are entitled to that opinion but don't call it democracy.

Currency fluctuations depend on which country. For a strong Germany there is no or rather appreciating currency than those small Baltic countries (which are screaming loudly about euro and maintaining eurozone subsidies) . For Germany it is better to be independent and economically strong than to listen to those small balking chichuahua dogs. Quite annoying these little dogs that try to snap at your heels
@@michaelburggraf2822 A little common sense on borders and this would not be happening , you let the far left take control of europe and drown it in insane policies , nothing more insane than open borders , thats why 99% of the world controls borders
Rich people is terrified
If governments don’t listen to the needs and wants of the people, they’re only paving the way for a political party that will. I think Merz made a smart move before the election.
As a European (not German), I applaud that decision! It’s not against United Europe! It’s the first step towards its consolidation! Europe is for Europeans ❤
Ms Pornschlegel is biased and wrong on every level.
According to Art. 16a Abs. 2 GG (our constitution), it is not possible to get asylum, if you came from another EU-state over the border. It also says "measures terminating their stay can be implemented regardless of an appeal lodged against them". Most refugees don´t have the asylum status. They just don´t leave.

The word “irregular immigrants“ explained everything 😊
just like in the US, "Illegal immigrants" are called "undocumented." So in Germany it's irregular?
This might be a bit of an overstatement, cooperating on the point of _immigration_ may be a matter of survival for the firewall.

Its actually very good news for Germany like Trump, Germany also have to save their country from woke madness... Germany is in the right way..
A lot of legal foreigners welcome this
Democracy cannot exist without the Rule of Law. Democracy is not, as many think, a simple majority vote. Democracy is about policies which enshrine Laws and Duties that creates equal rights to be enjoyed and the protection of that mechanism. Again, Democracy is not the same as a Simple Majority Vote. In the light of some Neanderthals Democracy claim to be, Iran is a Democracy, Belarus is a Democracy.... it is not. Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) calls itself Democratic but the contrary is true. The destruction of simple concepts such as Democracy these days, is the development of creating something very bad.
Somewhat one-sided reporting here. Let's put this into perspective, shall we?
- Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who grew up in the former G.D.R., transformed the former center-right CDU into a leftist political party, and opened Pandora's Box when she allowed literally hundreds of thousands of migrants, mainly young men from the Middle East and Africa, to enter Germany in September 2015, without any background checks whatsoever. Illegal immigration in considerable numbers has continued unabated since then. Any opposition within the CDU was quelled by Merkel and her closest followers. Democratic? No.
- The current annual expenditure (taxpayer money) for asylum related issues has reached 28 billion Euros - government money that could be used to refurbish the decaying German infrastructure (roads, bridges, schools, etc.).
- Most of the illegal immigrants, whether genuine war refugees (UN Refugee Convention) or economic migrants from countries deemed to be safe for them, passed through numerous safe countries (Turkey included), where they could have applied for asylum prior to reaching Germany. This implies that Germany has every right to refuse entry to such people at the border, and has the full right to deport anyone who entered Germany from another country along its extensive borders (see the Dublin Agreements in this context). The same principle applies to France and other EU countries.
- Former German Chancellor Merkel, who advocated the ludicrous "welcoming culture", and "wir schaffen das" never acknowledged the manifest cultural, safety-related, and economic issues linked to the flood of illegal immigrants throughout Germany, where many communes are close to breaking point because of truly excessive numbers. The SPD and Green Party are still in denial as to the increasing serious problems linked to uncontrolled illegal immigration, namely brutal attacks, rapes, and murders in the streets of German towns and cities. The rise of the AFD is clearly a consequence of this political denial, as tolerance and patience of the German population has reached understandable limits.
- The true leitmotiv of the so-called "firewall" of the German leftist parties is to remain in power, regardless of election outcomes that would normally evict them from government as a minority, because of the need for the CDU to form a coalition, namely with the SPD, when a clear political majority cannot be not achieved. A vicious circle of sorts that denies what voters really want. This process is everything but democratic, and deliberately excludes roughly 20-25% of German voters, many of whom want to see mass illegal immigration curtailed at last.
- Many of the criticisms voiced by the AFD are based on hard tangible facts, and should not simply be ignored by advocates of strongly biased political correctness, which is trying to force itself upon society to the point of denying free speech: many Germans no longer dare to speak their opinion. Ouch! Above all, democracy in action, like the vote on the CDU proposals in the Bundestag to tackle asylum issues, which included legitimate votes in favor from the AFD, is essential with regard to addressing the legitimate and increasing concerns of the German population. Simply labelling anyone who dares to question illegal immigration as "far right", is intolerable from a democratic viewpoint. Think about it.
- A similar questionable political strategy has been implemented in France through the creation of the "Front Populaire", which by uniting all leftist parties created a de facto political majority, aimed at keeping out the "Rassemblement National", which accounts for over 30 percent of the French electorate. Seriously, this cannot be described as democratic, right?
When governments continuously and deliberately ignore legitimate concerns of the populations that initially vote them to power, people will turn to politicians who promise much needed changes for issues that are clearly out of control - such as illegal immigration in Germany and throughout Europe. Beyond these facts, the UN Refugee Convention ought to be reformed from the ground up to outline a realistic response to what has for the most part become illegal economic migration to Europe and America.
Germans at it again 😅 like how it all started 85 years ago
By electing a lesbian leader?
Has Germany asked permission from America Israel first,??😂😂😂
Calling them far right is already the main problem. As a german, i absolutely know how the majority of people feels and by Calling them farr right, you make it worse. I didn't voted the last time and the reason was the following. I looked at every political party and there was no party that would match with my opinions overall. The highest was 54 percent, that is way to less to make a decision. All Conservative parties are now heavily left wing, so you people are forced to go for a party that have some parts that could be seen as right wing, But what makes a party right wing? A party that wants to focus on the own civilians isn't right wing in my opinion. Most germans will agree with me.
Sanity returning to Germany?
Probably they are faking sanity just because of the elections.
Sanity is obviously leaving
@n1vca Yes, for the comedian's fan club obviously! Hahahaha Hahahaha
The far right is not so far
Yep usa and germany loving the toilet
Sorry, but then you also have to understand the political system of opinion-forming in Germany. Germany is a parliamentary representative democracy. The citizens elect representatives of a party who then try to implement the party program of their choice. If you vote left and suddenly want to have center-right conservative issues, then that won't work with your previous choice. That's why the right choice is a decision of conscience and not an emotional one.
Our crime rate since the eastern migration goes through the roof in so many european countries....if anything that is for modern way of thinking AFD ...if you prefer suppression of women and so on go to the domecratic old religious value countries
