I used to scuba dive in Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota when it was at its lowest back years ago. The experts said that it was going to take 15 - 20 to maybe even 30 years to fill back up.
The next year I dove in ~30 - 40 feet of water just to get down to the beach I parked and camped on the year before and I think that later that summer it peaked so high they had to use the flood bypass for the first or second time ever for the Garrison Dam as well.

@@montydanable As for not predicting this record snow fall the 'experts' themselves would be the first to admit that there is much we don't know. And predicting the weather is difficult at best because there are so many variables.
So I don't fault the individuals involved in weather prediction because they are human too and our science and technology is still limited what it can accomplish and it has also come a long way in the last 50 years.

Now that Arizona cut off the Alfalfa farm from drilling more water wells. And if we find out where they're taking their water from now we might find out and many will be surprised how much water they're actually extracting from the Colorado Rivers underground aquifers it might make sense where a lot of the water's been going

California takes most of the water. Vegas takes a miniscule amount.

    • @chrisandersonlv

Vegas has more than tripled population in the last 20 years yet uses less water than it did back then. As someone who lives here I’ve watch the changes made to everything from water features to fake lawns and we recycle 100% of our water, you can take an hour long shower and waste next to no water because it gets treated and put back into the lake. We are the role model for the rest of the world on how water conservation should be implemented. California and small city’s like Saint George in Utah use far more water per person by multiples.

I've seen stats showing while Vegas population has increased by 800,000 since 2002, water usage has decreased by 20%. All water that goes down a drain in Vegas gets recovered, treated, and put back in lake mead.

    • @brianaust8897
