Took my trumpet out of its case after like 20 years. The jazz fest in Rochester, NY, gave me inspiration to pick it back up again. This routine seems simple but it’s challenging (at least for me haha..) for now 😠

I'm learning through tutorials, of course yours are in the front. Have bought a cheap beginners trumpet to fulfill an old dream of my life.
Progressing through tutorials is an interesting challenge, since I'm in the engineering and construction world, mostly in the middle of nowere, so no much time and possibilities are left for formal classes.
By now, I brought my lips to sound and got the first lower and mid scale, note by note, valve by valve: For me a great achievement. Now fighting for the higher third scale on the mouthpiece, not so easy, other valve combinations.
Your warm up excercises are of paramount importance , very nice too, by the way!!!

How do I reduce the amount of excess air that doesn't buzz? I get the notes buzzing but there is a lot of air that still comes out the mouthpiece that is fairly loud. I suspect this means the air is not efficiently being used, like I'm wasting air that's not turning into a clean centred sound.

Why do you recommend playing softly when playing this with the mouthpiece ?What gives you this ?
Most likely as to not overstrain your lips/muscle when you're warming up, to slowly wake them up and get the ready for whatever playing you need to do later in the day after the warmup.
