No I let them go I just got so much salmon in the freezer I throw the trout back. But I’ve been playing with the idea of bringing my stove and cooking a nice little stocker up while I fish 😂. Nothing beats a super fresh landlock
All the ice we checked this day was 5” plus but bigger deeper lakes will take longer to freeze. We found 2 1/2” today. So if you do venture out carry some spikes and fish with a buddy. And fish lakes your familiar with so you don’t find a spring accidentally
Depends but 5 to 10 is a good overall depth. If you find a nice shallow weed bed like 3 to 4 feet and put a jawjacker up you will catch some nice fish. Rainbows come into the shallows to feed and kinda hang in 8 to 20 feet when there not eating but they are never far away from the food so if your not finding them shallow 8 to 14 feet is a good depth.
Please pinch your barbs if you are releasing fish. I have started doing that on all my flys I tie and rarely lose a fish. It makes removing a hook so much easier. Thanks for releasing fish, they will be bigger next year. Thanks for sharing ice thickness. Fishing will pick up immensely when temps go back up and high pressure goes away.
Yes I agree it’s important to be able to get that fish back in the water instantly. This high pressure has been a drag and the cold too . Thanks for watching I will make sure to promote correct catch and release methods more it’s real important to me as well.
Beautiful rainbows
Ya I really liked that one with only a few spots. Thanks for watching
So so beautiful super star ❤❤
Thanks for the update. Now I feel safe to head out.
It’s looking decent out there and most the snow is gone which will help a ton
Haven’t fished in the ice yet! But I guess I need too now!!!
Is the road icy or sketchy on the road on the highway towards mat-su-valley?
It’s pretty slick but I have been in and out of wasilla a few times with no issues.
🔥
Great video, did you keep any of those fish? Just curious if they are decent eating...im assuming most are planters.

Thanks for posting, recognized all three lakes and good to know ice is safe. Will wait till it warms up a bit though…

Is 5 to 10ft the best depths for rainbows?
