    you can put the condom in a sock. great for emergency water carrying situation and if i remember correctly you can carry more because the sock supports it well.

    Ranger Rick is a former US ARMY Ranger. He sustained some injuries which I believe caused his early retirement. Don't quote me on that, but I think buying his no nonsense gear is a great way to get what you need and support Rick. Good demo of the kit. Make a bow saw for cutting with the wire saw. Don't cut too fast, heat build up will cause the majority of these saws to break. I was a USAF Pilot and the ones we were issued would do that. I used the British SAS model wire saw and it worked well. We would carry our condom canteen in a wool sock or place it inside our helmets to protect it. A ball cap might also work. Keep your fishing hooks small, you CAN catch a big fish on a small hook, but not a small fish on a big hook. Don't forget your space blanket...travel light, freeze at night. Have fun guys.

    Outdoor Products has a set of small dry bags that work to hold water pretty well. The old principle of if it will keep water out it will hold water in. And when folded and locked you've got a handle.

    I made my own little fishing kit once out of boredome, used a circular foam earplug condainer, (little bigger than what in this video) and used sllot of the same stuff in mine even the eyelits lol. I even managed to reuse the earplugs as little bobbers for fishing in still ponds and such. a tad sensitive but effective enough. still have it just in case whenever i go camping lol

    i think the condom is not necessary plastic bags are more easier to find and carry without having to worry that it will break easily and if other people see it they won't raise an eye brow at you.

    These little hand saws are also quite useful for cutting femurs (to get to the very nutritious bone marrow). If you are ever in a survival situation you can cook the whole bone on the fire and saw it into slices and eat the contents. Or you can only saw off one end and then grind the bone against a abrasive rock to a point. Makes a good makeshift spear tip (for long spear or traps).

    Nice video, for those who critique you and this kit, they need to first familiarize themselves with retired Army Ranger Rick Tscherne's website and his well known series of books. They need to realize that the purpose of Rick's design is to have a kit that is always carried so one has it when they'll need it. Rick isn't out to sell crap, but to teach and share useful information. He also provides survival kits to active duty military personel.

    I made one of these kits out of things i purchased and it cost more but its a great idea.The knife i use is a gerber curve,fox mini whistle,cheap girly dollar store keychain mirror that I put camo tape on and a 2 dollar pill bottle aluminum (dollar store)

    I really like the little camping tool - that orange combination gizmo with a compass, a mirror, a lanyard, match holder and whistle. Too bad the compass is useless; I only post here thinking maybe someone reading will fashion one with a good compass. Go to the store and pick up three and all will point a different direction.

  • @MasterK9Trainer
    @MasterK9Trainer 11 лет назад

    The point of these kits isn't really about making money, but rather to fund Ranger Rick's efforts to provide survival kits to active duty US Military personnel because despite what many might think, they are not issued such gear. Also for those of you who are being critical, the website offers loads of great survival tips and projects and information on how to create better and more comprehensive kits for those of us who desire to carry more gear. he has written a series of books on survival.

    You're supposed to put the condom in a sock to give it more strength when full, I'm not sold on this idea and have got two nylon sponge bags (I don't know if sponge bags are a UK/Ireland thing) and they work like small dry bags but are double layered to keep moisture inside so will fit a litre of water in easily and the draw strings mean they can be hung up for the morning, they cost £1 here so they don't break the bank either.

    One comment on your flashlight only (02:02)
    The 10 mm ("jumbo" lens), 8 mm, 5 mm (standard lens) and 3 mm LEDs have the same chip inside with the same luminous intensity.
    In simply words, at the same power (the current × voltage) the whole amount of light is greater with some reflector around but NOT the diameter of lens.
    Of course, you can use the lighter with a LED with stronger chip but it will last for shorter or have heavier battery.

    I'm not a fan of Ranger Rick but:
    But I have used this kit and the kit's reasonable for the price. The light's pretty decent, as the magbar. Compass works but won't a lot of abuse, your better off with the liquid filled version. Saw works. Knife is mediocure. (Buy yourself a SAK) The whistle works. Best thing to do with he hollow compartment on the whistle is to put some cotton wool thats's been coated in petrolium jelly in the compartment. You could do worse.

  • @Sapoman2211
    @Sapoman2211 10 лет назад +1

    The problem with striking from the knife is that it may not stay open when you do, and if you use the blade rather than the back, youll ruin the edge.

    • @krangitebacon5039
      @krangitebacon5039 10 лет назад

      you dont have to unfold the knife in order to strike, if you keep it closed and let it sit in your palm you can still make some good sparks.

      @Sapoman2211 10 лет назад

      True. You're more likely to smash your hand than you are if you open it, though. I prefer knives that hold their lock so you can trust them.

    The knife on the key ring is a no go.
    What happens is it's too much hassle to take it off for entering government buildings etc.
    We all tend to forget about having it on the key ring and then have to get out of the long line that we waited in for several hours to walk back to the car to put the knife away and lose our place.
    I have even tried to hide the knife while progressing in the line, like in a garbage can or other. Some a-hole will steal it if s/he sees you hide it, especially if it's a nicer multi function knife like a Leather-man.
    The knife goes in the glove box. The size of the knife is also questionable because different locations have different rules. Some lengths are considered a weapon.
    Thinking in terms of the car opens up greater possibilities. I always carry full set of sockets, saws, drills and general tools in the trunk as I often run into some mechanical situation.
    I think this is being more practical as the key ring is generally ok for simple handy task that are no greater than having to walk back to the car.
    Otherwise if it where any more tactical, for example a governmental overthrow where we where taken to Fema camps or some similar militant situation, more likely we would be stripped of all we possess.
    What would be more interesting is to know steps that one could take if they where stripped bare naked and then the steps they would take to make their way while remaining totally hidden as though a war refugee.
    But please no nudity. Underwear would suffice.
    Because if we where running from law/military there are hundreds of questions/thoughts I have about survival in that situation.
    Some example questions off the top of my head:
    How does one avoid helicopter heat detection?
    How does one avoid ticks when sleeping?
    How can clothes be made from plants?
    How does one make first shelter?
    Where is a good location in woods? (Near water?)
    Should we dig a fox hole or hide in tree? (Think Helicopters and bears).
    When considering all this, I think that the car is a great solution.
    Then the questions become:
    How do we hide the car?
    Should we bury the car and use it for shelter? (this I like)
    How could we bury a car quickly?
    Could we cover the car with debris alone?
    Should we use a ditch? (A come-along to pull the car in/out)
    So as you can see it is clearly an advantage to set the car up as the "bug out bag". Then all one has to do is grab the keys and go.
    Either that or set something up ahead of time. Something in running distance.
    That is if one really believes in SHTF...
