Thanks Travis! I have this setup and I just love it. I wish I had your video when I first thought of doing this a few years ago, because I went on a frustrating learning curve journey of research and trial and error ( looking back, I can now see it wasn’t that hard to set up, it just took a while and some wasteful purchases before I got all the components to work together!) I feel good knowing that I ultimately got to the right fit for me and now I get the instructors that really motivate me. Glad you put out this video, I’m sure there are a lot of people like me that you are helping to get this great workout experience👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😃🚴🏽♀️
I hope so! I know it can be very tricky to understand what products you need and how things work together to give you the outcome you want. Glad you got there on your own though and hopefully this makes things easier for some people just getting started! Have a good one KD!
I bought a used Pelaton and i just use the app on my phone and cast to my oled tv and use the "just ride" feature of the pelaton screen so i can see my cadence and resistance. I have never activated my pelaton and wasted the $40/month. My way is just as good because who cares how you stack up in the class and leaderboards. No need for a tablet or cadence sensor!
I took the peloton monitor off the bike and removed the bracket and installed it onto a Vizio 32” smart tv. RUclips has thousands of cycling videos for FREE. The bracket fit perfect and it took less than 10 mins. You just need a Phillips head screwdriver. (4 screws).
Got it to work thanks to your video. Didn't realize it doesn't work for Android devices not even the Z fold. Glad I have an iPad. I will use my iPad for the peloton app
Couple things to consider. I wouldn’t go this route. My reasons are number 1 if you sweat a lot you are going to distroy your tablet. Also the tablet blocks the screen on the bike. A much better option is to use the app on a smart tv or streaming device. You can get a cheap tv and Roku stick and have the app and instructor on there. Then use the just a ride function on the bike. This way you get all your metrics and can follow the instructor. Best part is you still also get your normal ride summery at the end of the ride. You can track your rides easily in a spreadsheet if you care to. You only miss out on the leaderboard and metrics tracking. You can even follow the heart rate zone rides if you use the app on your phone and cast to the tv.
@@Learnwithtravis you have a great channel. I kind of learned about the tablet thing the hard way using mine at a hotel gym too do peloton. I now put it in a ziplock bag when I do a ride at hotel gyms to keep the sweat off it.
I’m going to try this. Don’t want to buy several different gadgets to make the iPad mounted to the bike work. Have a TV in front of me already, so this should work.
I took the plunge I am getting my Peloton delivered on July 5. I’ve never bought exercise equipment before so this is kind of a huge deal. I am blind so I will be using the talkback feature on the screen
I hope that feature works great for you. A lot of what makes peloton great and motivational are the instructors and you will still get all of that dialog. I hope you love it!
@@MrAgage I use an iPhone. There is a program on it called voiceover, and it reads everything on the screen to me and I just know the layout of the keyboard or I use the dictation feature.
I just put the bike in just ride and then use a tablet holder for the video. I also use the app because my main work outs are at the gym and I don't use the bike enough to pay 44
I have both the Scosche & Wahoo armband heart rate monitors. I find the Wahoo works better and more consistently for me. When I sweat the Scosche just stops tracking.
thanks for your video; I am confused as to where I would read the cadence sensor metrics. If I am reading on my tablet, will I need to split screen with the Peloton app?
Been a while since I used this setup so going off memory, but I believe you have a couple options. One, on the Peloton screen itself you can do a "just ride" and it will display the cadence. Or you can purchase a cadence sensor, attach it to your bike, and then you use that when using the Peloton app on an IOS device. There is a spot you click to pull in sensor data and once you select the cadence sensor, it shows up in the app. Hope that helps!
I think you are right, great point. I think my focus was to get it all on one screen in case the tablet blocks your view but that is another great option.
Wow this video is great as it was one of the few places that concisely answered many of my questions I’ve been researching. thank you. But what about the resistance knob? Forgive me if the answer is self-evident, but I don’t have a bike, but am considering getting one. Can you use the digital app/subscription in this setup and still use the resistance knob as you normally would in an all-access membership?
…and still get power output readings? Say I wanted to do power zone training that relies upon power output measured in Watts. Can I still use this digital app/subscription setup?
Thank you so much Josh and glad it was helpful! Resistance knob still works like normal! Nothing different there. As far as watt output, I am pretty sure that is there. It will show current resistance, cadence, and power (wattage) in the middle. I would check but I think my peloton membership is active right now.
Yeah I think that's the main problem, you'd either have to guess where the resistance is by feel or start a free ride on the peloton and position the tablet not to block the resistance info
Your videos are great! Suggestion for a new video since your content is the most updated that I can find nowadays: Now that it's 2022, what do you think is the best bike for the Peloton Hack, now that Stryde actually costs more than the Peloton Basic Bike? (MYX, Echelon, Nordictrack, etc;) Also, I'd love to see a video of Peloton Hack Bike with Apps on a TV instead of a tablet. iFit app and Peloton on a TV. The more I watch the videos, the more confused I am about what to get. Frankly, if Peloton was unlocked, I'd totally buy it now. I would've bought the Stryde but it costs too much now. I want Peloton studio classes at the cheaper price and the ability to do iFit's scenic rides and also do Zwift.. What to do?!
Thank you so much and thank you for the great idea! Best Peloton Hack \ Options in 2022! I like it. I will add it to my videos to work towards. Thanks!
Seconded. All the other videos and articles I've seen focus on a table for the digital app, I'd like to see one where the TV is the focus as I have space to put my bike near my tv
Can you do "just ride" on the bike to see the cadence etc. while watching a class on the tablet with the digital membership? Can't you access 'just ride' without a membership?
A lot of the automation and metrics you get from the Peloton are lost. When you are on a Peloton, it knows has fast your pedaling and what the resistance is at and can turn this into power. This can be used in game modes. Resistance you can be automatically controlled for a more immersive experience. *You don't have to manually change it, the bike just does it. With out that and using Peloton digital, it is more about the content and working out with the instructor which many people love and save some good money. Just depends on what you want.
Thank you! Was just looking through the webpage and it said live classes included. I am not sure if that was for the app or app+ but appears you do get it.
Thinking of getting a pro form rower for the $40 a month deal right now. I have a peloton. Would it make sense to cancel my peloton membership and try to use ifit classes on the peloton in just ride format?
You could do that to compare the content of Peloton and iFIT. That is a huge factor and they do it different so knowing what you prefer will be helpful. With iFIT the leaderboard is not as well design (at least to me) if that is a major factor for you. You would also lose the row feedback and post ride information about your form. I tend to struggle with making exercise equipment decisions based largely off of money because nothing matters if you don't enjoy it. So testing as much as you can to make the best decision for you is a great idea.
Hi! I have had the digital app for years- and have 5 accounts on it due to being "grandfathered" in. I use an off brand bike, but a friend of mine is offering me her Peloton for a very low price. I do not want to switch to the $44 membership. Can you not just log into your account on the bike screen? I tried it at her house, and it seemed to work... I could see my cadence... maybe I lose the leaderboard, which I have never had anyway?
I have not tested it in a while but you should be able to use the just ride mode which gives you the stats, and then continue to use your tablet like you have been doing. Hope that works for you!
Great video Travis. I really, really enjoyed this. I didn’t know about the Wahoo cadence monitor, but that is something I will definitely consider in the future. I love my Bike+ and use it all the time but I do find myself not as hooked to it as I used to be. This seems natural of course, but if I ever find myself not using it as regularly in the future, I may end up selling it in a few years, downgrading to the app and getting a Concept2 BikeErg with the Wahoo cadence monitor just to save on the monthly cost. A few questions though, if you don’t mind. When using the app with a cadence monitor, does an output number get recorded and displayed for your class in the workouts section? Is there a graph generated for cadence? Or is strive score the only metric that gets tracked in that case? And if you’re an app only member and do a Just Ride or the one free scenic ride they give you on a Bike, does that get recorded as a workout?
Thank you so much James! It does appear the cadence is recorded and you still get that graph. As far as the ride being recorded. If you do a Just Ride on your bike, I don't think so. But if you are using the Peloton App along with it, it would be recorded as an app ride and still include data available via that system. Hope that helps!
Yes, as of last check you need to use an Apple device. Then you need a cadence sensor (Wahoo). Once you have both of those, there is an icon I believe on the right of your workout where you can select the cadence sensor and it will report.
Is there a way to jail break the screen? It’s crazy that I bought the bike basically for the screen and the only solution for not having the all access bike is to not use it
the cost is only worth it if there are more than 3 people using the bike. for a single user that £44 is far too expensive. in the UK you can go to a gym for as little as £15 a month. They should just really make the cost fit the number of people, so each person say pays £17 for an adult and maybe £10 for a child. which then would mean they could earn more when more people use it. But would then open up more one person getting the system.
I hear ya. I think the assumption would be, most people would lie and say only one user for a lower cost while more were actually using it. Netflix sharing login info sort of thing. But I agree that they need to come up with ways to have financial options for people in different situations.
