Bit late but we always tape the water lines in short sections. Don’t use one long stretch of tape? It’s easier to keep the line smooth. If you overlap the short strips, it all comes off in one. Great to watch you sailing such a beautiful boat. Diolch! (Thanks)
A few cuts in the letter backing paper should allow you to easily put the letters on a compound curve. Just use a scissors to cut up between the letters to within a 1/2" or so of the top edge. Tape the top edge of the backing onto the boat like you normally do and then "pull" the letters down individually and adhere them.
Raising my water line it always resulted in looking like a long wave in motion. I thought it would take a laser level adjusted for the out of level boat to do it right, which of course such a machine was never available. Thanks Kevin....Next time I haul out I will use the simple eyeball method.

I just had a talk with a formerly sea faring friend who told me that in south Florida ( and probably the Caribbean, equatorial regions) you get a lot of growth no matter what. This was a warning to me as she’s trying to talk me out of getting a boat. I thought it might have been an exaggeration except now you have a similar observation.

I live in the Deep South but have 10 acres in thorndike Maine. Old salt taught me to sail and you were laughed at if you used a motor and so I learned to sail thru crowded marinas and sail right to my slip and tied to pilling and dowsed the sails.

How to Sail Oceans I will check it out later tonight. Love you work. You are by far the best sailing channel on RUclips. It's nice to find a channel that don't push all the T&A because they can't sail. I like some of those channels, but you never learn much.
It is my understanding that using a laser level, or any level, will NOT result in a boot stripe that appears even along the length of the boat. Because of hull curvature, only sighting in will produce a line that appears straight and "level", even though it really isn't. And as stated earlier, leveling a boat on the hard is just not gonna happen.

Do you mind if I ask about your running backstays: 1) Is it essential for one of them to be in use at all times to stop the mast falling down, or are they just for optimising forestay tension? 2) Do you use them on all points of sail? 3) What happens if you have an accidental gybe and the boom hits the tensioned runner? Or do you somehow manage to ensure that this never happens?
Yes, the windward runner should be tensioned at all times, but the aft lower does have enough lever arm to prevent the mast from falling forward--I've blown the tackles out with full sail up, and the headsails just sagged a bit, but no damage. Yes, the boom can accidentally gybe and hit the tensioned runner, something you do not want to happen. It has happend to me though, when the self-steer didn't respond fast enough and she went through a gybe, luckily I did not break the boom.
Depends on your standard. She will not beat anything to the windward mark on the club racing circuit, but for a cruising boat, she's OK. Generally I tack through 100-110 degrees on flat water, 120 when the swell gets up.

Your videos are priceless if for no other reason than they teach that *patience* and choosing wind conditions (angle and strength) carefully are important near-shore when going without an engine. I will always (probably) have an engine, but they tend to fail at the worst time, and so having the skills to do near-shore maneuvers engine-less is priceless. The movie "Hold Fast" is also great for seeing engine-less harbor sailing in action. Thanks for your contribution to the modern yachting world.

The breeze was puffing in at about 10 knots at times, dead on the nose, which would have been too much to scull against.

You mean for bottom paint? I have no idea, but polyurethane paints can't stand being under water too long, they blister up.
Google "center hinge decal application". Much easier on curved surfaces.
Is that basically what it sounds like? The sheet holding the letters is pretty thin though, easy to bend.

An inexpensive, "Laser Level" will assist with marking an accurate water-line. By the eye your water-line looks very nice.
Hadn't thought of that one ... good idea, although I think you would have to be sure that they blocked the boat up level for that to work (?)
